CRONE RESIGNS

The Report has just learned that John Crone has resigned as Mooresville's police chief. Crone has been on paid suspension since July 8, pending the results of various investigations into the way he handled the police department's Cops for Kids program.

I will post more details as they become available ...

The reign of TERROR is finally over, I think I hear partying at the police dept :)

Thanks Jaime for all you do!

Although it had to happen, I ask for prayers for former police chief Crone and his family. I was in the protest march on Monday, and I believed then and I believe now that Mr. Crone had to give up his position. Now that he has, I hope we all have compassion for him as he faces the consequences of his actions. While we must demand that any and all investigations are conducted and completed with integrity, we can also understand that no one is perfect. But we are all responsible for our actions. And we must now grant Mr. Crone the dignity of his own struggles.

Fieldstone Presbyterian Church said...

Well said. This is not a personal vendetta, but rather a systemic issue. I hope Mr. Crone's resignation sets the example for other leaders who have failed to live up to public trust.

Are you stupid? That P.O.S.never had any compassion for any of the officers he ran off and he sure as hell never cared about the familes. He got what was coming to him. I hope that the rest of the CRONIES pay attention and take notice. They need to go also! As far as the investigations go, I hope that all the criminal charges that can be pressed on him are. He would make a great prison bitch.

Let’s not forget about those that have been trying to cover up Crone’s unlawful behavior. There is still a lot of work to do.

I remain a solid supporter of John Crone. An undoubtedly good man has been harmed unnecessarily. To John and his family, thankyou for everything you have done (out of the public view) for families who have been devastated by violent crime. You know it as well as I - you stood up when basically no one else would. I know it and so does the family. (Name withheld). Your resignation does not in any way diminish the long standing respect I have for the way you conduct your life. You are a good man, John Crone. I guess it is now up to you to find it in your heart to offer forgiveness to those who feel you should suffer. Jaime - you are mistaken if you think this is your finest moment. John is one of the good guys in this world. If you got to know him - you would see this for yourself. I do not enjoy sadness needlesly dropped into a good person's. John does not deserve this. This is not a good thing. - Dennis Mahon/Charlotte

can the poster who left the comment about police rading Thunberg's house post what channel or source they heeard this from?

No I think 5:39 has compassion for a fallen human being. I was also at the march/demonstration. Remeber, with whatever measure we judge others, that same measure will be meted out to us.

remember Mark 4:22. You are seeing just the beginning of what will be uncovered.

JESUS STILL REIGNS AND HE LOVES YOU.

Its a GREAT DAY FOR MOORESVILLE!!! The air is clearing, John Crone hurt more people than alot of Mooresville know.. I for one am glad his REIGN OF TERROR is over. I also walked in protest and would do it all over again. Crone truly abused his power and thought he was above he law. I want him to be held accountable and prosecuted under the law just like anyone else would be. That is JUSTICE!!!!! I can only wonder what else will surface about him.

Anonymous said...

We can have compassion for Chief Crone while never keeping our eye off of those who supported him even in light of substantial evidence from day one. Those people are: Bill Thunberg, Mayor, who slipped around behind the scenes trying to derail the investigations and keep Crone in his position; Erskine Smith, alleged interim town manager, who continued to pay Crone after evidence that would have resulted in firing in any sane environment; Frank Rader, who will have to answer for his acts in interfering with a criminal investigation; and last, but certainly not least, the 21 self-described community leaders who signed the letter of support for Crone. For a list of those names see a previous post by Jaime. And, by the way, I don't think they are community leaders (or maybe they were once perceived as such). The real community leaders are those 50 people who put their rear ends on the line by marching on town hall Monday. The shadow government is dead. DEAD. The people are running this town now !!! And the next project, which should be short work, is the termination of Smith from town employment. We have endured years of his mismanagement and now with a competent manager coming in, Smith's relevancy has come to an end.

FRANK FALZONE FOR CHIEF---
HE IS ONE AWESOME OFFICER

Anonymous said...

Problem is, poor ol' Falzone, who is a good fellow, got a wild hair and had some of his subordinates to write emails in support of Crone. Not a good move. But, Frank is a good man and a good officer. Hell, who knows, maybe Rader pressured him to do it.

Anonymous said...

Dennis,
We all need friends like you, with that kind of unshakable loyalty, but the facts speak loud and clear.I don't delight in this. I've made mistakes too in my life. One of them was not bringing suit againest Crone and Garry Frank for a situation a few years ago.

Anonymous said...

.01%. I think I like those odds.

One down. Two to go. (If they get a clue.)

The sheep are running free. They have taken the electric kool aid acid test and they have passed with flying colors. Anything is possible on this day in "good old" Mooresville. Fruit loops arise. Hail to you people who marched to take back your town. I will be waiting for the Mayor to honor you at the next town board meeting. Of course, I won't be holding my breath. And hopefully you won't have to march again about Smith because surely he will now be gone before the next town board meeting. But, if not. . .

Anonymous said...

Frank Falzone for chief you have got to be kidding!

Fieldstone Presbyterian Church said...

Jamie, will you post the announcement which Mr. Smith will make tomorrow morning?

Anonymous said...

Well, the Crimestoppers Board needs to call an emergency meeting because Gatton surely should be paid a huge award for uncovering this corruption.

Anonymous said...

Another person who deserves our ultimate respect is Dale Gowing at the Tribune. He has been unwavering in his editorial independence in light of threats from people like the dirty 21 who would pull their advertising (like Thunberg did) just because he is reporting the true events occurring in this community. And give it up for Megan Pillow for working the story with Gatton.

Anonymous said...

Read the great article about the 21 "leaders" who supported Crone in their rush to judgment of innocence. Here's the link: http://thegattonreport.blogspot.com/2008/07/they-had-their-say-now-we-have-ours.html. No, you won't see them out on the street demanding justice. But you might see them in a smoky back room trying to get their secret agendas through the back door. But, problem is, only Thunberg, Rader and Abraham are willing to do their bidding, and that ain't enough, baby. The people are in the majority now and justice will continue to prevail.

Anonymous said...

If Smith is sitting in Town Hall in two weeks, I AM MARCHING WITH YOU. Crone was only a SYMPTOM of a much bigger disease. Erskine Smith has been in a "MANAGEMENT" position for THIRTY YEARS, and this is where is has gotten us???? People walking in the streets and police chiefs getting investigated? Where was the friggin' "management"?

Erskine Smith paid Crone a salary for almost five weeks when he should have been suspended WITHOUT PAY on July 4th when the articles first came out about.

Smith is DIRTY.
FIRE HIM NOW.

Touch not mine annointed. Do my prophets no harm.

Do you remember that widow who was lying in the CCU fighting for her life as you slandered her on 3different TV stations, John Crone?
Do you remember the lies you told about her? Blatant lies?

Well, I'm sorry for you. She was a true prophet.

Mark 4:22

As I said on the Law Suit site, would Crone have resigned if not pressured by the Board after the Law Suit was made public? It appears that the Law Suit is against the Town, not Crone individually, but I am confident he will still have to pay for all his mistakes. Why should anyone feel sorry for him?

Anonymous said...

thanks for putting the screws to Garry Frank, Larry.
WBTV news desk is 704-374-3698.

Garry Frank, we're calling on you to make public the findings of the audit and SBI report concerning the municipal golf course of Mooresville,NC. We request this be done with a sense of urgency.

The dialogue above is for John Crone alone. He knows what it means and I'm sorry for him that he has to suffer the wrath of God for harming a widow and refusing to prosecute the man who hurt her.
The conversation is between myself and Crone, not you and I.

Fieldstone Presbyterian Church said...

Didn't put the screws to him, just asked him to give an update on the status of that investigation and the results. I first went to SBI and they directed me to Mr. Frank. I'm sure the investigations has to be complete, but we'll see.

Anonymous said...

FRANK RADER:
RESIGN NOW OR FACE ANOTHER ROUND OF PUBLIC HUMILIATION.

Turn in the town vehicle you shouldn't be using.

Stay out of the police station while this investigation is underway or we'll get the FBI involved for witness tampering and obstruction of justice.

If you ever laugh, sneer, or use condescending language towards another member of this town we will take you down. What you just witnessed is nothing. This movement is building steam and I hope you are not foolish enough to think anyone is backing down. And that's not threatening a public official 'ol boy. It's just a piece of "friendly advice" that the sheep are about to clean out your closet.
This is the last chance to resign and come clean.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the resignation came because of the investigation and where it has led, coupled with the "bad press", the march and the lawsuit.

BTW, I meant to ask on the lawsuit thread, how come that thing sat filed in Statesville for a bit before hitting the news? I can't believe someone didn't leak that earlier by suggesting reporters ought to be checking on civil suits recently filed.

Anonymous said...

Let us not lose sight of the target. Pushing Crone to resign was relatively easy. If he is not guilty within the criminal system, he cerainly has proven he cannot manage the Police Department.

Cleaning up the mess in Mooresville requires removable of Smith and Radar. The Board will probably take the easy way out, and tell the new Town Manager to dispose of Erskin, since he is too arrogant to accept his own falability. But that is not a certainty.

Radar is another matter! The Board must find a way to impeach and eject him. He is truly a danger to society, and must be removed from any situation into which he may insinuate his consideraable lack of knowledge.

Look up "arrogance" in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Frank Rader with his new Erskine Smith/Bill Thunberg look. Yeah, those three. Yeah, we're watching em.

"great job to all " so sad for poor old crone

Fieldstone Presbyterian Church said...

Next step is to begin circulating a petition forcing a referendum vote on the issue of amending the town charter to allow for recall elections of elected officials. We'll begin this process next week and need to gather a minimum of 1,907 signatures (based on today's number of total registered voters eligible to vote on Town issues). Once that's complete, we can then start moving hard to find a replacement for Rader since Rader is up for election in November. This is the perfect reason for having a group such as Citizens for Responsible Government -- where we force politicians to answer difficult questions and then educate the public about those politicos.

Anonymous said...

I agree Larry, we need a woman on the board!

Anonymous said...

Folks....Frank Radar is smuggly sitting in his home absolutely convinced that this will all die down before his little bow tie is on a ballot again in 15 months. It's the same reason he spear headed the cable vote....he felt confident that the voters have a short memory and he just has to mind his arrogance for 6 months prior to the election.

Frank...I hope you're wrong.

Anonymous said...

Frank oughta be talking to his lawyer. Sounds like this may be a real investigation. In which case, he will have to answer some questions. Will be hard to lie his way out of it when he has a bunch of police officers who had to listen to his absurd effort to rally their support for Crone. Oh, and yeah Frank, what does that word "gravitas" mean again? And his now infamous quote from just Monday night: "Nobody's been charged with anything. But that doesn't have any gravitas with anybody. I learned in 8th grade. . .yada yada" Yeah, that's right we're all dumber than 8th graders. Who is looking dumb right now? Who is looking crooked right now?

Anonymous said...

gravitas- having no weight, inconsequential

Anonymous said...

That's THIS November

Anonymous said...

Gravitas (from Latin) is a quality of substance or depth of personality.

Gravitas (specifically dignity, seriousness, and duty) is one of the several virtues that ancient Roman society expected men to possess, along with pietas and dignitas.

"Gravitas" should not be confused with "gravity" in the sense of importance, although they have a common etymology, coming from the Latin for weightiness.

Gravitas--having no weight, inconsequential. Another good word that can be simply defined with a picture of Rader. Also, see: finished, done, irrelevant.

Anonymous said...

Methinks he confused the two.

Anonymous said...

Frank is like a cockroach.....he'll survive any thing thrown at him...except maybe an annoyed electorate....and it's a LONG time until NEXT NOVEMBER.

Smith is gone in a month so they won't toss him....hence the smile on his face on tv.

My fear is the 50 people I saw walking on Monday night will fade back in to their lives and forget Frank's shenanigans.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully the rest of the board and the SBI won't forget Rader's shenanigans. He has brought tremendous embarrassment upon this town. Of course Abraham and Thunberg won't have anybody to hang around with anymore.

Anonymous said...

Many of you know my position and circumstance and that I cannot go public in seeking our goals. I have said that retribution is real! But I am very disappointed that you now seek retribution from those who spoke in Crone's support. These are good people who deserve to voice their personal opinion of someone they know, without being attacked. Don't become like the "leaders" you seek to replace.

Fieldstone Presbyterian Church said...

Well said and I agree entirely. The folks who signed the letter in support of Crone have their reasons for doing so, and are well within their right to do so. I disagree with their stance, but that doesn't make them bad. Let's keep our focus on the continuing work ahead: politicians who abuse their powers and leaders whose time it is to walk away.

Anonymous said...

9:40....

I'm 98% sure that Frank has 15 months left.....I think at large board members get 4 years....

Anonymous said...

Given the "no longer an employee" comment to the trib and refusal to comment on the resignation, do you suppose he was fired? .... wcnc is promoing "he was already under investigation, guess what's happened to the MPD chief now." or words to that effect.

Fieldstone Presbyterian Church said...

Charlotte Observer article says that Smith refused to confirm or deny suspension or firing, but details will be released tomorrow.

The 3 Board members who were last voted on were Wards 1 and 2, and At-Large, Miles Atkins.

So, wards 3 and 4 should be up for vote alongside At-Large, Frank Rader.

Anonymous said...

But the election is not until next year. It is always the other year from congressional elections.

Jaime Gatton said...

Hey, guys. Just to clarify: Frank Rader (At-Large), Mac Herring (Ward 3), Chris Carney (Ward 4) and Bill Thunberg (Mayor) will be up for re-election in November 2009.

Anonymous said...

Channel 9 reported that Crone "retired" because he was tired of waiting to be interviewed. If the interim town manager lets this "retirement" occur, he (Erskine Smith) should be fired immediately. This "retirement" (bogus) should simply not be accepted. And, if what Crone said is true (take it with a grain of salt), why in the hell had he not been interviewed yet?

Anonymous said...

think that may be right...Town of Mooresville Non-Partisan Election is every two years, the Mayor, one
Commissioner at Large & two Ward seats are elected. The Mayor serves a two-year term. The
Commissioners serve a four-year term. Frank, ward 3 and 4 were elected in 05 and was not on ballot 07, ward 2 was last year...

Anonymous said...

He was probably given an ultimatum of resign or be fired. they probably advised him to retire to save face, but the investigation will go on anyway.
So, let's start planning the theater for Rader.
I vote we call it Operation Bowtie.

Anonymous said...

MPD is refusing comment to media and it took WBTV until 8:45 to verify he's gone.

Anonymous said...

6:14 P.M. Amen to that.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Erskine Smith is going to try and protect Crone to the very end, staying mum even after Crone's gone. Boy, oh, boy, what I would give to find out what Crone has on him...Anybody have any ideas they can share here or by e-mailing Jaime Gatton? It's time to turn our attentions to Smith before he gets a chance to train Husemann to become a lazy crooked bum like himself who can do nothing but leech off of the rest of us.

Anonymous said...

Erskine's office is full of religious things. Maybe he's just too trusting.

Anonymous said...

I guess Erskine Smith was "too trusting" when he handed over a quarter of a million dollar bid to his buddy, Jimmy McKnight, for about a day's work. I guess he was "too trusting" when he let Crone bleed a charity dry, dip into the evidence room, and keep getting a paid vacation when the rest of us would have been out of a job and locked up. If Erskine is that "trusting" (I could use other words here, but I won't), then he has no business in our Town Hall, making over a hundred grand a year. I think I'll pass on Erskine's "trusting" nature.

Anonymous said...

A town official who has an office full of religious things is probably tipping you off that he is using the old trick of acting like a religious person in order to rob the trust of people he deals with. Alot of that goes on in this town.

Anonymous said...

You are dead on 12:35. Case in point: I personally with my very own eyes saw about TEN Bibles in Bill Thunberg's office at his jewelry store downtown. Here's a guy who sold me a piece of jewelry once for about $1,500, and I went to get it appraised two months ago, and the appraisal came back at under $500. Yep, the good ole "religious things" trick worked on me once, but it won't twice.

Great job Jamie
"The pen is mightier than the sword" means a person can cause people to change their opinions(e.g., to fight a war)and on a large scale whereas a sword can only change a peron's opion by force and then often only results in the person's death.
The Founding Fathers of the United States of America considered the pen to be mightier than the sword, and therefore were able to gain the freedom of America by uniting the colonists

Anonymous said...

Way over due. Good job Jamie for being a great investigative reporter!

Anonymous said...

Did anyone hear the results of Radar's poll to see how many would vote him back as a commissioner???

I believe, but not sure, the answers from the individuals were sent to Town Hall.

He never did report the results.
Hmmmm may not have had the results he expected.

Anonymous said...

Finally. I believe the SBI and internal audit were unconvering substantial amounts of evidence and then going to question John. That is usually how a criminal investigation works. Get the evidence, take it to the scum bag who broke the law, then question him. No doubt John was told of the findings and "advised" to resign.
For him to state he was tired of waiting to be interviewed, is just another example of his arrogant pompass ego getting in the way. I call BS on that statement. If it were me and I was truly innocent, I would have waited months and months and months until the findings came out. I mean hell, he was getting paid a healthy salary to be on vacation.
Never the less. I feel nothing be elation from the criminal resigning. After the hurt and misery he has caused on his officers, showing no compassion for anyone. May have said John Crone will get his one day, maybe that day has come. I do hope the investigation continues and part of the agreement was not to stop the investigation if he "resigned, retired" or what ever you want to call it.
Thanks To all who saw his evil side. It was the biggest side to see.

Anonymous said...

Good point. Where ARE those results of Rader's "poll"? He is so full of you-know-what. He's been politically castrated and doesn't even know it yet.

Anonymous said...

Crone's gone. Now we gotta take a good look at the guy who had his back - Erskine Smith. And we gotta figure out why.

Anonymous said...

what poll

Anonymous said...

Yeah we won Jamie now on to our next person on the Mooresville Hit List.
1. Chief Crone..... Gone
2. Chief Greene
3. Erskine Smith
4. Bill Thunburg

What will we do when they are all gone? Hey we can just start all over. Whoooo what a life we have.

Hey I heard they hired a new town manager. Fresh meat.

We are the true leaders of this community. Right?

Anonymous said...

Rader took some bogus "poll" through his insipid (yes, Rader, we know big words too) "Rader at large" propaganda piece some months back asking who would vote him back into office. I would vote for the neighbor's dog before I would vote for him again.

BTW, this is to the not-so-funny previous poster. You can add Rader to your list. I don't know anything about Greene, but the others stay on the list. That's right. If you're crooked or support crooks, there is no place for you in our Town Hall any longer. We're taking it back for the people.

Anonymous said...

To 10:04: Yeah, I don't know anything about Greene, but I sure know enough about Smith and Thunberg. Your sarcasm wears awful thin now that your own people have been forced into the corner of "firing" Crone. Can you imagine what evidence (coupled with a protest march) it took to get them to take that action. Wow, it's amazing that someone would come on here and be sarcastic about citizens and bloggers and marchers not tolerating any level of corruption in their town. Amazing!

Anonymous said...

10:04 you are correct, even though you are trying to be funny. Don't know why you threw the fire chief in there, but if you can educate us on that point, then fine. A little more work needs to be done before the new manager comes to town. But when he comes, he will know that the people took care of the hard work and all he has to do is put people of integrity into environments with proper structure and checks and balances. That's right, those of us who demand integrity are not going to disappear. And, yes, we are running this town now. And it will be a better place for it.

Anonymous said...

August 8, 2008 10:04 AM

Go home honey. It's over. The Bad Guys lost. The Good Guys won. The Crooks are either gone or on their way out the door, whether they know it or not (kinda like when Crone refused to accept he was gone until he was forced to). That's the breaks. For decades the Dark Side has prevailed in this town, and now it is time for some Light.

Anonymous said...

Hey 10:04, if it's all the same to you, I'll keep part of your list and leave the rest:

Mooresville Current Most Wanted:

1) Assistant Town Manager Erskine Smith

2) Commissioner-at-large Frank Rader

3) Mayor Bill Thunberg

Anonymous said...

Hey larry!
Why don't we start a petition to demand Garry Frank release the golf course ivestigation results? It's kinda weird the SBI won't help, don't you think?

Anonymous said...

I have an even better idea. We can picket his office. it is ridiculous that he is refusing to release that report. it BELONGS TO US. Let me take a wild guess. The report came back bad. His little "friends" in Mooresville Town Hall winked and nodded at him to just hang on to the report. What the natives don't know won't hurt them. Now, he's caught between a rock and a hard place. Garry Frank - part of the problem.

Anonymous said...

I still can't get the picture of Fariba facing Erskine on camera, no less, out of my mind! I have laughed since this past Monday night about that ball of fire being let loose on him! I'll bet he wet himself. I wanted to laugh out loud so bad I almost had to cover my mouth during the whole meeting.
How great for her kids to see democracy in action and Mom leading a fight.

Anonymous said...

so give Garry Frank a public request to release the report in it's entirity by a certain date.If he doesn't we march.
I say we demand it from the SBI.what right do they have to refer us to Garry Frank. what about the PUBLIC INFORMATION ACT? anybody can request to see that. we paid for it.at least our taxes paid for stuff at the golf course.

Anonymous said...

Boy this is the slowest day I've seen on this blog yet! Wonder when the CFK results will be released and if Larry's having any luck with Mr. Frank getting the golf course report. That's BS, it should've already been released.
