UPDATE: Cops for Kids investigations

The Town of Mooresville has asked Kenneth J. Andrews, a retired polygraph specialist with the FBI, to conduct the internal investigation into Police Chief John Crone’s handling of the police department’s Cops for Kids program.

Andrews, who over a 22-year career with the FBI worked in the bureau’s Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Charlotte field offices, has lived in Denver, N.C. since 2002.

Meanwhile, 22nd Prosecutorial District Attorney Garry Frank was expected to contact the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) last Wednesday to launch the external investigation into Cops for Kids, and the SBI has apparently since been in contact with Maj. Carl Robbins, who is serving as interim police chief while Crone is suspended with pay pending the investigations’ results.

At the same time, the town’s finance department, as of Friday, is looking for two different forensic accounting specialists to conduct the audit of Cops for Kids. The town as of Friday was still awaiting information from Cops for Kids’ bank accounts to submit to those accounting firms once they’ve been selected.

It is unclear when any of the investigations will officially begin, but the town maintains they should begin soon.

The town is also expected to delay an evidence-room inventory until after the SBI has been in contact about “proper procedure.”

At the Police Department, Robbins told town staffers in an e-mail on Friday that he has personally spoken with every police department employee except those who were on vacation or in school. Everyone was told that Crone has been placed on paid administrative leave and that Robbins was appointed acting chief. “I told them I had no idea if or when (Crone) would be able to return,” Robbins wrote in the e-mail.

He said that he instructed all police personnel to direct any media questions to Town Attorney Steve Gambill and not to comment on Crone’s disciplinary status or the investigations.

Robbins briefly explained the scope of the dual investigations: “One will probe into the administrative side and will be conducted by an independent investigator and the other by the (SBI) into any possible criminal wrongdoing,” Robbins stated in the e-mail. “The Cops for Kids financial records and the evidence room are focal points of the investigation.”

He told police staff that “there is no firm timetable for either (investigation)” but that they should “be prepared for weeks or months.”

Robbins stated that “everyone should be cooperative, honest and open,” and he “reminded everyone to accommodate the investigators and staff from the Town to make their efforts as efficient as possible.

“I told everyone to stay focused on our mission because that is a constant during uncertain times,” Robbins continued in the e-mail. “Through it all, we must remember to provide a safe community for citizens and visitors alike.

“Each employee was reminded not to speculate or engage in discussions with the public about the allegations since we need the facts,” Robbins stated. “We also need to give the investigators time to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.”

Robbins said that he also told the officers and civilian staff that “it was their choice if they wanted to contact the Chief. I also reminded them that the Chief had been responsible for many improvements in our Department including our building and we should keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers no matter what one’s opinion may be.

“Since we are under increased scrutiny,” Robbins continued, “everyone was asked to go the extra mile in dealing with anyone they had contact with during their shifts (treat them like you want your mother treated under similar circumstances).

“In closing,” Robbins said, “I took time to tell them how proud I was of them and that I would be depending on them and I valued their opinions and input.”

I dont think anyone in Mooresville has a proper appreciation of the seriousness of what is happening here with my comments on this blog in relation to NC GS 14-100 to arrest crone, and arrest him now.

I bet Jamie and the town atty. already know what I am refering too and if they dont, they should keep looking, but I would not take to long if I were you all.

equal protection: an overview

The Equal Protection Clause of the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits states from denying any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. See U.S. Const. amend. XIV. In other words, the laws of a state must treat an individual in the same manner as others in similar conditions and circumstances. A violation would occur, for example, if a state prohibited an individual from entering into an employment contract because he or she was a member of a particular race. The equal protection clause is not intended to provide "equality" among individuals or classes but only "equal application" of the laws. The result, therefore, of a law is not relevant so long as there is no discrimination in its application. By denying states the ability to discriminate, the equal protection clause of the Constitution is crucial to the protection of civil rights. See Civil Rights.

Generally, the question of whether the equal protection clause has been violated arises when a state grants a particular class of individuals the right to engage in an activity yet denies other individuals the same right. There is no clear rule for deciding when a classification is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has dictated the application of different tests depending on the type of classification and its effect on fundamental rights.

I suggest you act and act quickly.

Oh great. This is all we need. To get a federal lawsuit slapped against us because of Crone and that worthless shield of his, the supposed "manager". Together they've been living off of this town for 40 years (Crone for 10, Smith for 30). Enough is enough. I'm sick of this scourge of unpunished white collar crime in Mooresville. John Crone is being very unfairly thrown under the bus. He is a good and decent man. I am worried that in a race to get a pulitzer, the journalists are speeding right past a man's good name in an effort to nail someone to the wall.
John has come to the aid of people I know in a very selfless way and never once asked for any limelight or compensation. When this is all over, the biggest challange John is going to have is to find forgiveness in his heart for peole wishing to hang him at the town hall. This reminds me of Arlo Guthrie's 'Alice's Restaurant'. Is John a perfect man? Surely not. Who among us is? Is he a good, moral and decent man? You can bet your life he is. Journalist will always behave the way they are behaving - but the town of Mooresville should have people with more spine because now is the time for people to defend him. In his hour of need. I cleary am reminded - in the 1980's when Richard Vinroot was mayor of Charlotte. The news media went after city workers for taking an extra break on their shift. The news made it sound like Watergate. They had video and everything. They went to Vinroot for an 'official comment' and Vinroot, while agreeing the city worker's were wrong - turned the news conference around and went after the journalist for their lousy professionalism.

You seem to be trying to destroy a man's reputation because it makes you feel better. No one on Earth is perfect so John is right there with the rest of us in that regard. I do know for a fact that he is as good a person as anyone reading this post. How about you? How would your life hold up ander such intence public scrutiny. All I am saying here is 'please stop for a moment and think about what you are doing. I'll have to say that I'm quite pleased by the qualifications of the retired FBI agent. Not only does he appear to have the skills necessary, but also the experience.

Based on the available documents for CFK, combined with the various comments made by the chief, and the fact that others within the department have been fired/suspended for similar events, the chief should minimally be placed on non-paid leave until the entire process is concluded. He's admitted to not having required documents in place and to not having proper financial guidelines in place, which are grounds for discipline in and of themselves. If, in fact, he has fired officers for telling lies, then his own statements contradict themselves and constitute a lie, so the same punishment meted out by the chief should be meted out by the interim town manager.

However, would I feel comfortable having him arrested at this point? Honestly, I don't. I know -- an unexpected statement. However, the system has to be given the opportunity to work -- and to work knowing that the public is indeed watching and monitoring. For me to jump on the bandwagon of "arrest him now" would be hypocritical since all along my complaint with him has been that he locked up a particular person without having done an adequate investigation -- really, not having done ANY investigation before making his decision.

I believe in the equality of the law and especially the equal protection and implementation of the laws. Although my experience with the chief has resulted a lack of equity, I hope that the investigations will demonstrate for all of us that the laws will be applied equally to all -- regardless of your status or position.

Maj. Robbins’ letter seemed thoughtful and level headed, and of the caliber :) I expect from the leader of our local police.

I’m also impressed with Ken Andrews resume. He seems like just the person for the job.

Scrutiny of public affairs is vital to the role of journalism and I thank Jaime for her persistence. Now is the most important time to be vigilant as we await the results of the investigations. We must pressure our officials to see the investigations to rigorous fruition so that if Chief Crone is innocent there will not be a flicker of doubt, and he may return to office with dignity, and if he is guilty, that he will be punished as one who has betrayed the law he was entrusted to enforce.

I would have to agree with the theory of a good man. But also that a person can seem quite delightful and then you're presented with the complete opposite. If I were to commit a felony then I would be reprimanded for it. If the police chief or anyone else is guilty of a felony they should have the same due process of law everyone else would have. After reading NC GS14-100 felt its definition said the person had to be indicted with sufficient information before being arrested. There are quite a few smoking guns, but our big time politicians don't care. They dont think that a civilian can read public records properly. I think instead of a lie detector test we should try an IQ test. I'm sure some of our fine leaders would have scores that resemble their decisions.

I agree with the last post. Some people keep saying, 'Reserve judgment.' In the meantime, not a single fact reported in the media about mismanaged and misspent money has been refuted. If the media is wrong in its assessment of the public records, someone show us how they are wrong. If it is right, then Crone has to go. It is not a matter of opinion or character or anything else. It is a matter of behavior and accountability and what we will accept from our pubic officials--no matter how good they may be in other settings.

I know many are happy to finally see something being done. I am one of those people as well. However, I smell a rat. I think all of these investigators should hold up and let the SBI step in first and not muddy the water. You may see that in the end the DA is not able to bring charges because too many people got in the way. This could possibly all be in the plan. Just a thought.

John Crone, in his capacity as the Police Chief of our town, and in his capacity as the sole handler of funds of the charity Cops for Kids, transferred cash from the evidence room into Cops for Kids, and he repeated withdrew thousands of dollars in cash from that charity. He then locked up all the records and kept the only key to himself, which he only begrudgingly and partially turned over when he was faced with no other choice. When he was suspended as the result of the inspection of those records, he went on camera and repeatedly contradicted himself, changing his story daily. No fast- talking, blindfold-wearing, guilt-baiting sycophant of his is going to ever change those facts. As much as certain people would like for us all to suspend our logic in order to make life more comfortable for them, we shall not.

to GS 14-100:You seem to know so much about the law so why did you not contact the town and volunteer to be the special investigator. We do live in the USA where our constitution says we are innocent until proven guilty. Lets also remember that a police officer has to have probable cause, look up the definition, before they can make an arrest. Let the forensic accountant review the documents and let the others do thier investigations to determine if a crime has been commited or if poor judgement was used. The last time I checked using poor judgement or being a bad book keeper was not a crime in this country.

Consider the following report by the Tribune:

"Other examples of cash being used came later in 2006 and again in 2007. In December of each year, Cops for Kids paid for the Mooresville Police Department’s holiday banquet for department employees."

"According to an invoice, in 2006, Cops for Kids paid $1,203 to Tasteful Impressions for a 75-person buffet. Payment was made by a check for $600, supplemented by $663 in cash. The $600 check is recorded in the bank statement for that month and in Crone’s balance sheet, but the $663 in cash is not recorded in Crone’s balance sheet. The cash payment is simply noted on the Tasteful Impressions invoice. There is no indication in any of the records as to where the cash came from."

Cops for Kids' records -- the organization's own records! -- show money spent on a holiday meal for cops. This BY ITSELF is grounds for Crone's termination and possible criminal prosecution. (He will be innocent until proven guilty, but he doesn't need to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt before he is charged.)

You use the analogy in your comment of Charlotte city workers who were scrutinized "for taking an extra break on their shift." Either I misunderstand or you are trying to compare that situation with what we face today in our community with our police chief. I am afraid the analogy is a poorly disproportionate one, considering the facts which have surfaced and remain undisputed.

You then go on to make this accusation: "You seem to be trying to destroy a man's reputation because it makes you feel better." Once again, I can only assume you are referring to anyone, media, citizens and officials alike, who are critical of the police chief's actions.

Although I believe you act out of good intentions, I also believe you are misguided. If I may borrow these words from my memory, you appear to be "blaming the fire on the person who calls 911."

The concept of the presumption of innocence is one of the most basic in our system of justice. However, in so many words, it is not codified in the text of the Constitution. This basic right comes to us, like many things, from English jurisprudence, and has been a part of that system for so long, that it is considered common law. The concept is embodied in several provisions of the Constitution, however, such as the right to remain silent and the right to a jury. Which is what crone should have done and what he will get. I promise.

I would like to respond but I cant, please read the constitution and show me where that is your constitutional right. I can be wrong, but dont count in it in this circumstance

And the other part about probable cause, I would say that admitting guilt on TV, creates probable cause.

But thanks for you comments, I hope I helped. It is not going to change what needs to happen, and as to why I did not call the town, its not my job, my job is to make sure they do there job fairly. I am actually fighting to preserve your constitutional rights, no thanks is needed.

To my knowledge, he's never even answered Jaime regarding the firings and resignations of officers while he was at the helm. Time has come for all our elected officials to make good,sound and honest decisions for the betterment of our city.Our present reputation is aweful, and neighboring communities think our city is a sham and corrupt. In my opinion, they're correct, and we have a long way to go. Erkstine Smith has been lurking behind the scene for 30 Yrs. and must be stopped. With him in the pie,status quo will remain.

I know nothing about what is going on at the Mooresville Police Department. I live in a nearby town and would like to say one thing.
Who ever chose Carl Robbins to be the acting Chief made a GREAT move. He is the most dedicated officer and gentleman that I ever met and I had the privledge of working with him at another PD years ago. He is honest and well respected by the public as well as his fellow officers. He will not ask the other officers to do something that he would not do himself.
Should the current Chief leave his position in what ever way the Town of Mooresville would be wise to go ahead and appoint him Chief of Police. He will put the police department back where it should be well respected and fair to all.
I have called a friend who is on the current staff at the PD and am told that there is a difference from day and night in the past few days since Robbins took over.

The Supreme Court decision Illinois v. Gates (1983) lowered the threshold of probable cause by ruling that a "substantial chance" or "fair probability" of criminal activity could establish probable cause. A better-than-even chance is not required.

Somewhere else in this blog Dennis Mahon (or people like him) were blaming local activists for the mess we're in. Then they started blaming elected officials who've actually taken a stand against Crone's misconduct. It looks like when blaming activists and officals flopped, they decided to start blaming the media. What will be next? Maybe they can start blaming the investigators next. Anything to keep themselves distracted from the possibility that they have engaged in corruption OR they have supported corruption OR they have been in denial about corruption.

I agree with 7:28am!! Carl Robbins is a great choice for Chief. I too have known him for many years and I have NEVER once heard of him doing anything that was unjust. He's never been involved in any of the scandals and corruptness that has gone on in this town to my knowledge. The officers respect him and only have good things to say about him. I think he would do his best to clean out the dept and would not put up with some of the things that go on there. Go Chief Robbins!!!

Among Chief John Crone's friends is a certain Robin Pendergraft, a/k/a Director of the State Bureau of Investigations of North Carolina (known to you as the great big SBI). She and Crone have been friends for many years, the origination of that friendship some believe started with Joe Knox, former mayor of Mooresville for over 30 years, long enough to build some nice connections and pass those connections along to his inner circle of the Usual Suspects who would do his bidding and the bidding of his chosen ones. Sorry to be the deliverer of this news, but there it is.

All of a sudden it makes sense why Erskine Smith is keeping Crone on the payroll. Any other town manager worth his salt would have fired his ass the day the information came out in the papers about the evidence room and the cash. For Erskine, I guess that all made Crone look even more attractive as a department head. A "grateful" department head is easy to use and control, especially useful if that department head is the police chief. Nice plan Erskine (and whoever else has cooked it up).

I hope EVERYONE who is involved in this SCAM/personal piggy bank/gambling fund he called Cops for Kids goes down. Erskine Smith included. Ya know, John Crone has not been arrested yet it would seem, after I have proven his guilt in regards to NC GS 14-100 for at the very least, the holiday parties and he admitted his guilt on video, that no one would step to the plate and arrest him is beyond me. I told and explained as well yesterday how the equal protection clause is being violated right now and demanded his arrest again. It still has not happened.

John Crone only has his friends to thank for what they are forcing me to do now. I promise you will arrest him. And you will do it right now.

By stealing the identity web site of Cops for Kids inc. based in California John Crone being the decider of his brand of cops for kids is guilty of wire fraud by definition.

The crime of wire fraud is codified at 18 U.S.C. § 1343, and reads as follows:

Whoever, having devised or intending to devise any scheme or artifice to defraud, or for obtaining money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises, transmits or causes to be transmitted by means of wire, radio, or television communication in interstate or foreign commerce, any writings, signs, signals, pictures, or sounds for the purpose of executing such scheme or artifice, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both. If the violation affects a financial institution, such person shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or imprisoned not more than 30 years, or both.



In case you are wondering how it affects a financial institution, talk to the credit union that let him run in a deficit for a year.

Mr. Crone, I have a lot more, do you really want me to continue posting ALL the crimes you have committed and will be found guilty of in a court of law.

As no one seems to have the stones to arrest you, I suggest you turn yourself in today. Should you take my advice I will quit telling and explaining your crimes in public and let the investigators decide what you should be charged with.

Make no mistake, I will not let you walk!

Should you choose to do so, I bet you even get released on your own PR today. I have no problem with that for now. I may not be so nice in the future. Let the process begin today. Be a man!

minor drug offenders go directly to jail. They were only hurting themselves. Before you go bashing me a minor drug offender is someone caught with very little of their own poison of choice. The drug dealers go for a little less time and then go back out on the street and sell your babies crack. But we let people with money and power do whatever the hell they want. hmmm... how bout we build a prison and then put Crone and Smith in it. Then we can add to it. We can be the prison system for corrupt and evil minded people. While the government can be the prison for another source of major tax profit.

The Hobbs Act provides that '[w]hoever in any way or degree obstructs, delays, or affects commerce or the movement of any article or commodity in commerce, by . .. extortion or attempts or conspires so to do . . . shall be fined . . . or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.' 18 U.S.C. Sec. 1951(a). '[A]n effect on interstate commerce is established by proof of an actual impact, however small, or in the absence of actual impact, by proof of a probable or potential impact.' We have upheld convictions under the Hobbs Act even where the connection to interstate commerce was slight. See, e.g., id. (defendant threatened to deliver embarrassing audio tapes to his victim's employer, a corporation engaged in interstate commerce); U.S. v. Word on the street is the RATS are cooking up schemes behind closed doors to keep this thing as “small” as is possible. The only thing that you have proven is that you like to run your mouth. If you have proof that Crone is guilty, grow some "stones" and step up to the plate and present this magic evidence to the SBI or whoever you want. If there is proof and you are in posession of it and you do not turn it in, then you are as guilty as he his. You say you have been knowing of his crimes for 10 years, but you have done nothing until now, how pathetic. What
Crone is accused of is a felony. Warrants have to be drawn up before Law Enforcement can arrest him. When warrants are drawn up, MPD Officers or the SBI will serve (arrest) him and take him to jail. He is not above the law. If you have proof, submit it and put and end to all of this.

I give you 48 hours to turn in any evidence you say you have. If you do not, then shut up. Grow some "stones" and do the right thing. Give the people of Mooresville what they want or shut up. Further more, I despise people that know of wrongdoing and do nothing about it. Do not wait another ten years. Stop threatening to post all his crimes, submit the evidence or shut up!!

You sound nervous, could that be because you know based on what you have read that I wrote that if Crone does not turn himself in that you might be next on my list of people who took money from kids.

And to the other guy, I am not a police officer, they are much nicer then I am. And if you know what I know about the DARE program.... Better yet, just look up Daryl Gates and see what he says about it.

The Town Manager shall be responsible to the Board of Commissioners for the proper administration of all the affairs of the Town. In exercising his duties as chief administrator, he shall have the following powers and duties:
(a) He shall appoint and suspend or remove all Town employees, whose appointment or removal is not otherwise provided for by law in accordance with such general personnel rules, regulations, policies, or ordinances as the Board of Commissioners may adopt.
(b) He shall direct and supervise the administration of all departments, offices, and agencies of the Town, subject to the general direction and control of the Board of Commissioners, except as otherwise provided by law.

DEPRIVATION OF RIGHTS UNDER COLOR OF LAW

Summary:

Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

I thought more about the attack made against me last night on this blog and have decided to give the town council a better idea of what they are up against here and what is coming their way, so put this statute in the context of the equal protection clause and connect the dots.

I take no pleasure in this, I promise you, but the next time someone wants to question MY "stones" while I go after YOUR police chief and quite possibly, several members of YOUR police department and town council, who at the drop of a hat could arrest me for my expressing my constitutional rights for any trumped up charge they want to keep me quite and tucked away in jail, remember this, My "stones" are large, shiny and brass and they clak with the clank of the constitution coming to your town. The difference is that Crone suspended w/o pay or fired employees for similar allegations lodged against them. Now he gets to be on paid leave? He has already admitted an inability to properly manage the funds. He has already contradicted himself publicly on various TV interviews. Both of those are grounds for dismissal according to the town's personnel policy.

Is he guilty of criminal activity in this particular case? That's an issue for a jury to decide. But based on the handling of other issues by the town, there is some doubt as to whether or not the legal system will be allowed to function properly.

Thats because he violated federal and state law hundreds of times, and the only way to make sure it gets investigated fairly is for him to turn himself or be arrested on the violation of NC GS 14-100 which he admitted to on television. As of right now, he has not been accused of anything by the legal system. The process must start and will only start with an arrest and I will continue to post the federal and state laws he has violated forcing the federal investigation. They will treat him like anyone else accused of similar crimes or they will get sued for constitutional violations.

They are not doing that, they are trying to cover it up by keeping it local while another person sits in prison for the same thing. I want fairness, nothing more, and I will accept nothing less.

Has he turned himself in yet?

Well, Article 9, section 3a, defines the term detrimental personal conduct as it pertains to disciplinary action and includes, among others, the following:

19) Intentionally making false statements to a supervisor, department manager, town official, or citizen when such falsification is made in response to a job-related function.

So yes, as it pertains to this particular situation. The Chief has intentionally made false statements regarding various aspects of CFK (incorporation being the most blatant).

Not sure if you're asking me whether or not the SBI is "crooked", but my personal opinion is that most LEO are not crooked and would do anything in their power to assist people.

Boy, "somebody" has been busy on this blog today. Just got home and read the references to "welfare". I can think of at least a couple of people collecting "welfare checks" as we speak. One of them is called Police Chief John Crone. He's sitting at home on his computer collecting his check. The second one is his boss, Interim Town Manager Erskine Smith who has been collecting a welfare check for about thirty years. Combined, they've been on the public's dole to the tune of almost $200,000 per year. What have we got to show for it? Dumb and dumber stumbling over each other trying to clean up a big-time spill called Cops For Kids.

Proof: a photocopy of a page of deposit slips for deposits to an account at the credit union called "John Crone, Cops for Kids". In the middle of the page is a deposit slip for a deposit made in May of 2008 in excess of $300. On the slip is handwritten "loose change from evidence room". In the upper left corner is written "chief". This document was in a stack of documents given to Gatton by the chief himself from a room that was under lock and key and controlled by the chief only. This same document is in the possession of town officials. Proof: Bank statements given to Gatton in the same manner, showing several CASH withdrawals over the years from the same bank accounts in amounts ranging up to $5,000. Proof: a weblink on the police department website that Cops for Kids funds are used for disadvantaged people in the community. Conveniently removed when Gatton began her investigation. Go back and read the articles. And please provide us or the media or the town officials with any possible evidence that could suggest that this was not either a criminal act or at minimum an act of gross mismanagement which should result in the immediate suspension without pay (and ultimate termination) of the police chief. Don't start trying to argue unless you have the facts to support your argument. You will not derail this discussion from the relevant issues. Don't try to convince me or anyone else out here that this was legal or appropriate conduct. At minimum, that money from the evidence room belonged to somebody. It was taken by the chief or someone under his direction and put into an account of which only he had control. As to the cash withdrawals it is wholly inappropriate and likely illegal to remove cash from an account that was accumulated from the charitable donations of a trusting community. Now, if your values say that such an action is appropriate, then it is understandable why you have resulted in personal attacks against Jaime Gatton and the posters on this site who are telling you what the meaning of "is" is.

Please stop calling it a charity account, it was not a charity account, it was a for profit business account, under the SSN (not the articles of incorporation and EIN number) of John Crone himself, DBA Cops for Kids. That makes it a for profit business that took in hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of ten years, and that is only between 10,000 and 20,000 dollars a year, and I bet that is such a low estimate. Probably more like 50,000 per year. 20 years of a for profit business not paying taxes is 1,000,000. or about 300,000 in tax owed because crone did not know what he was doing. (not knowing the law does not help him, ask any lawyer.)With no products being sold other then the "good will" (extortion) of the police department and when I say good will, I mean, give me money and you will get special treatment by me and my officers, I bet they did not even give those phony police stickers to their victims.

But make no mistake, it was a for profit business where John Crone AND his officers went door to door or called by phone and extorted money from them, ie. Hobbs act violation. Also, for every individual attempt to "get" money from a business or resident it is another felony charge, so if you gave him 10 dollars today, 100 next month and 100 in two months, that is 3 individual felony charges of violating NC GS 14-100, now multiply that by the number of people that donated and you will begin to see the shear number of charges we are talking about. It will be hundreds, if not thousands. Every time he or his individual officers even so much as tried to get money from people, they did not even have to get the money, it is another charge. Another hundreds or thousands of felonies for the attempts.

Every officer that made the attempt or succeded in getting the money is also going to be charged with felonies. I bet right now that half of your department if not more are guilty of felonies, and their only hope not to be charged is that they were to stupid to know what Crone was doing. However that is a double edge sword as if you were to stupid to know what is going on then you are too stupid to be a police officer. (sorry to use that word)

No one has any idea what is about to happen to your department because they do not understand NC GS 14-100. It is a vicious vicious law with saber tooth like teeth, I do understand, which is why I brought it up in the first place and why I am forcing a federal investigation and why John Crone, needs to be arrested, right now, his passport needs to be taken, as well as any firearms and his badge. People with this many charges, are prone to flee or commit suicide. I am begging your people to save his life right now.

The town of Mooresville is about to fill its jail, with police officers and town council and think of the problems that is going to cause.It is not going to be safe for any of them. Protect them, I promise you do not understand that law.

Call in the feds NOW, you have no choice in the matter, either you do it, or I force it.

But either way, it is going to happen, get out of denial now while you still can save some of these people.

Everyone in town needs to go to the Town hall ASAP and remove your elected officals. Call towns and counties near you and get there help, this is no joke! This is an emergency and no one seems to be looking at it like that.

The county DA can not be impartial. Neither can the independant investigator who is a "personal friend" He will back out of this when he relizes what is going on. No one will touch this with a ten foot pole.

I just read the scurrilous remarks written by a certain person with regard to Ms. Gatton, the author of this blog. I do not know who you are, and I certainly hope you are not someone I know. I will say this to you, however. You should be ashamed of who you are.

I may not know of the specifics of Ms. Gatton's life and life circumstances, but this much I know. She is not under investigation for abusing funds that were given in the name of a charitable organization. As far as I know, she is a private citizen who is exercising her right to hold public officials accountable. Yet you choose to attack her instead of those public officials. Shame on you.

Perhaps the most disturbing facet of this situation for me is that I have an uneasy feeling that you are indeed someone I know, a wolf in sheep's clothing walking amongst us under the cloak of legitimacy, frequenting our churches and town halls.

I have read with great interest the expose relative to the Crone scam, and commend those
who began the investigation and brought it to the attention of the residents of Mooresville.

My concern is the scope of the investigation. It really may be very limited. Seldom do people engage in only one felonious activity if their experience is successful.

I am suggesting you may have discovered the tip of an iceberg. The opportunity for persons with authority to abuse it is almost an historical certainty, if the initial results are gratifying.

Do the tentacles of the culprits reach into other areas of the community? Have favors been granted in return for special considerations? Has physical or mental pressure been used to the benefit of an individual or group?

The support for the expansion of illegal activities may go beyond the Police Department! Does the current Interim Town Manager have a role in defending and/or participating in them? He has, after all, a pattern of questionable performance. Anyone who enjoys the notoriety of constant presence on the Town Golf Course, and accepting pay for that time, pretending he was at work, has the capability to succumb to greater enticements.

DOES the Mayor need to be investigated as a protector of the knaves and scoundrels who infest the very life of the Town? He has historically abused his authority, even before he was elected to his current office, and, enjoys attempts to build a power structure that will benefit him.

Its not a joke until you prove it otherwise, that is how an investigation works. Plus, that was by the seat of my pants, I am wrong about the police helicopter, but not about the freq flyer program.

People dont make up random combinations of letters and numbers that are also a code for a freq flyer program. The odds of hitting it are astronimical.

I want to tell G.G Allin and the people of this board that I was wrong about him, head to tow, he is not even close to crone.

I made a mistake, so I am sorry for that. But you did lead me down the road of Freq. Flyer Miles. and that is a good thing. But this is why I stick with laws, normally. I spoke while upset, never a good idea.

Thats why I tell people to pick apart the laws I post that Crone broke and the crimes I say he committed.

If you are who I think you are now, nice tat, very unique and I hope you finish your degree. But then I could be wrong again. Either way, your not crone.

In the future I will try to not lash out and I hope you continue to speak your mind no matter where you stand on the issue of Crone.

I know what your thinking Sparky, I'll just take the pictures and info down but it is to late, already made copies of your site and have put them in an email with all the BS you are saying to send to all your closest friends and faculty on campus, (well, truth be told, everyone one campus I am sure I will hit a professor o or two of yours) and pulled email address to a database to make it a one click shot or would you like to say something else to me.
