"Citizens for Responsible Government" has invited Mooresville commissioners to join area residents in a “Town Hall meeting” on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 6-8:30 p.m. in the youth services room of the Mooresville Public Library.
Local pastor Larry Green -- founder of Citizens for Responsible Government -- organized the Town Hall meeting and plans to moderate the event. In addition to general topics "related to the welfare and leadership of our town," Green said, specific topics up for discussion will include Cops for Kids; the town’s hiring of engineering firm CH2M Hill for the expansion of the Rocky River Wastewater Treatment Plant; the town’s purchase of the bankrupt Adelphia cable system (MI-Connection) and a potential recall option.
Of Mooresville’s six commissioners, three have responded to Green’s invitation. Commissioners Chris Carney and Miles Atkins said they plan to attend, while Commissioner Mitch Abraham said he has a conflict that night with another previously scheduled meeting. Additionally, Abraham said he has “church committments (sic) on Wednesday evenings.”
However, he told Green: “If I am able to move the other meeting, I will notify you of my intentions.”
Referencing the open meetings law, Abraham said, “I will also yield to the other commissioners for the reason that if 3 or more of us are gathered at the same place for purposes other than social, it may be considered an official meeting and I believe that may involve town staff be involved for record keeping purposes.” Abraham referred Green to Town Attorney Steve Gambill for a “ruling.”
Carney, responding to Green’s invitation, wrote: “I will be happy to attend and look forward to answering questions from the citizens of Mooresville.
“Also,” Carney added, “I welcome the opportunity to explain any decisions I have made or my position on existing issues facing Mooresville.”

Event organizers will consolidate the questions into “thematic units,” said Green, “ to avoid repetition and to promote as much public involvement as possible.”
Green plans to follow a meeting agenda, which includes three-minute statements from each commissioner and a moderator-controlled Q&A session using your previously submitted questions. Commissioners, said Green, will have one minute to respond to each question. If time permits, Green said he will allow questions from the floor, with first priority given to those who did not previously submit questions. Those in attendance who did previously submit questions will be limited to one “open-floor” question, he said.

Mental illnesses are devastating diseases, not only for those who experience them, but for friends and family as well. Under the best of circumstances, making a decision whereby a spouse or loved one is placed in the custody of a mental health facility can be an overwhelmingly stressful event. And, while everyone should have the right to make their own decisions about medical care, there are individuals with mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or other affective disorders who, at times, due to their illness, lack insight or good judgment about their need for medical treatment.
When a person's illness makes it difficult for him to recognize the need for the structure, safety, and treatment that a hospital can provide, it is up to someone else who cares about the person to seek help and petition for issuance of a court order to have him taken into custody for examination by a qualified physician or eligible psychologist hospitalized in a process called "involuntary commitment".
A magistrate is authorized to issue custody orders for involuntary commitment for a respondent (the person being involuntarily committed) who resides in the magistrate's county or who may be found in that county. Once the petition is approved, it is considered to be a warrant that authorizes a law enforcement officer to take the respondent into custody and transport him to a locally designated facility for evaluation.
Legal Requirements for Involuntary Commitment
Chapter 122C of the North Carolina General Statutes requires that the respondent be mentally ill and a danger to himself or others or in need of treatment in order to prevent further disability or deterioration that would predictably result in dangerousness.
Definitions
"Dangerous to himself" means that within the relevant past the respondent has
1. acted in such a way as to show that he would be unable, without care, supervision, and the continued assistance of others not otherwise available, to exercise self-control, judgment, and discretion in the conduct of his daily responsibilities and social relations, or to satisfy his need for nourishment, personal or medical care, shelter, or self-protection and safety; and that there is a reasonable probability of his suffering serious physical debilitation within the near future unless adequate treatment is given. (A showing of behavior that is grossly irrational, of actions that the individual is unable to control, of behavior that is grossly inappropriate to the situation, or of other evidence of severely impaired insight and judgment creates a prima facie inference that the individual is unable to care for himself) or
2. The individual has attempted suicide or threatened suicide and that there is a reasonable probability of suicide unless adequate treatment is given or
3. The individual has mutilated himself or attempted to mutilate himself and that there is a reasonable probability of serious self-mutilation unless adequate treatment is given.
"Dangerous to others" means that within the relevant past, the individual has inflicted or attempted to inflict or threatened to inflict serious bodily harm on another, or has acted in such a way as to create a substantial risk of serious bodily harm to another, or has engaged in extreme destruction of property; and that there is a reasonable probability that this conduct will be repeated. Note that involuntary commitment and court-ordered treatment should only be used as a last resort and only when it is believed to be in the best interests of the individual.

I agree that the particular poster in question has officially stepped over the line. It was bound to happen, and it finally has.
Their attempts to silence local activists using words has not worked, so they are now using actual threats. That is completely unacceptable, and it will be dealt with accordingly.
I'm truly not concerned about the veiled threat, which is not the first one I've received and I'm sure won't be the last. The threat comes as a last resort and is made out of desperation. Crone misused the involutary commitment process to lock-up a student based on rumors and without an investigation, and I certainly don't wish that upon anybody -- including the person who made that comment. This threat is not a surprise to me. I have been (legally) carrying a firearm and watching what I say over the telephone for years. It would be an understatement to say that some of the top people involved have alot to lose.
I am convinced that some of our top officials have deep roots in criminal activity, which is why I have pushed for an investigation past Mooresville.
It has been my experience over the years that those people who make threats are not usually a problem, although they can be. Those most dangerous persons are the ones who silently plan to do something.
If this person would be exposed the most they would recieve is a communicating threats charge. I would be more interested in seeing who it was and how they are tied to the corruption.

Three more people have been arrested in connection with a large-scale corruption investigation in Lake City, Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said.
The names and details have not yet been released, but are expected to become available this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the trial of a former Lake City police officer investigators say was involved in that same investigation is scheduled to begin Oct. 14, according to U.S. District Court officials.
Shanita McKnight, 35, and Albergail McFadden, 52, both of Lake City, were indicted June 26, 2007, on drug trafficking charges. McKnight also is charged with extortion for using her position as a police officer to “wrongfully obtain monies from other individuals,” according to a press release from then-U.S. Attorney Reginald I. Lloyd.
McKnight and McFadden face a maximum penalty of 10 years to life in prison and fines ranging from $4 million to $8 million.
McKnight faces a maximum penalty of a $250,000 fine and/or 20 years in prison for the extortion charge.
McFadden has entered a guilty plea and is awaiting sentencing, Boone said.

8:41 hope that information helps. I had a problem with MIS on overcrowding. If they are violating any of the NC State School Board rules, call the State School Board about it. The schools are allocated funding for busing and they are supposed to ask for enough to provide enough busing.
There was something that happened this year that they weren't counting on. I believe the number of riders increased because of the rising fuel costs.
Your problem might just be due to too many backpacks, dunno. Hope this helps.

I made the post at 12:08 and I stand behind it, the person who made that threat is nuts and needs to be found right away before someone gets hurt.
I'm not aware of any commissioners changing their mind about attending or not attending. It's disappointing that some of our elected officials aren't willing to converse with the citizens, but all I can do is extend the invitation.
As for the veiled threat, since I was directly referred to as "bozo" I would assume that the "Bozo is dead" comment was directed at me, but again, although it's inappropriate it does not, in my opinion, warrant all this attention. I can only hope that whoever it is will come to the meeting and participate in the dialogue -- as I hope all of you will as well.
And yes, the citizens will have an opportunity to ask questions provided there is time remaining at the end of the meeting. If you have a specific question you'd like asked, feel free to post it here, e-mail it to me or get it to me through Jamie.

I come from a prominent Iredell family who had a large part in settling this region, long before many of the "b.b.'s" even were born or moved here. I have been treated like trash and so has my family. I am looking forward to the day when we can walk down the street and voice a different opinion without fear of reprisal for the rest of our lives from city hall and the local business community. My family didn't act like they were entitled. In fact, they went out of their way to help the underdogs in this community and have since 1848. is that far enough back for you, Frank R.? Time Traveler
The good news is that there are now actually people who are willing to complain and stand up. We used to have a 100% rate of complacency and apathy and now we don't. We have persistent activists willing to call a spade a spade. We have lawyers willing to go up against town hall. We have reporters willing to start government watchdog blogs. We have ministers willing to actually walk in Jesus Christ's (the original maverick!) footsteps and cry foul at injustice and unfairness. We have people willing to march and protest. All this adds up and anybody who tries to stop it will see for themselves just how difficult it is to stifle truth for long. They will then decide whether they want to shape up or ship out. Their choice.

I believe you wrote, some time ago, about Charlie and Roberta(s) health problems (which we did not know of and still do not). You seem to think we are continuing to write about them and the golf course fiasco.
Your comments were hysterical, accusatory and venomous. Do we have to be “anyone who is anyone” to merit our involvement in the fight against corruption, in our home town of 8 years. I know that people need to vent their emotions when frustrated, and I can say that we honored your suggestion. I must also say that the Roberts are of no concern; they are history.
Your hatred of us, seems to be very strong, for a Christian woman, and if you so desire please let us know how we have maimed you. We have only fought for your rights and for honesty in the Town Government.
Oh, by the way, when our son died last year, your dear friend/relative was less than Christian.

You are right about one thing. The Time Traveler is one of those people who have to be anonymous because of that ecsessive fear of retaliation you spoke of. It's called having a family to feed and job security. The same thing that has made many a person have to be anonymous. Anyone who denies that things work this way is either not in the system or a bad part of the system. Mooresville has operated under these guidelines for a long time. There are many Time Travelers in ToM that know when to lay low.
Kay, Your attack was this past spring in the form of a comment directed towards me at an event. You are correct in saying I made horrible statements which I should have forgiven long ago. I did not know your son and I'm so sorry for your loss. You must be devastated. I also don't know you which is why I was so taken aback by the comment which I will not repeat. It is possible I suppose that the comment was directed towards another person in the room and not I.
Charlie recently had surgery to rmove a brain tumor. He is merely an acquaitance, I don't know him very well. I assumed wrongly that you were aware of this and while I cannot control his actions, I can be held accountable for my words.
So... I ask your forgiveness of any harm or hurt I've caused while you were going through this terrible time of loss. I am truly sorry. And I further ask based on this situation that we all take time to consider the other person and give them the benefit of doubt and not follow my example.

The language of G.S. § 14-100(a) covers “any kind of false pretense whatsoever.” Thus, the representation which constitutes the false pretense “need not come through spoken words, but instead may be by act or conduct.” Parker, 354 N.C. at 284, 553 S.E.2d at 897.
It is about them violating this law inperticular hundreds and hundreds of times, if not thousands, it is about these people being CLASS H and C Felons awaiting the formality of a trial, and it is about them being alowed to continue walking the streets and about them not being treated as others in the state of North Carolina have been treated in similar circumstances.
