Mooresville is postponing its efforts to become an All-America City.
But that decision is not because of the recent public exposure of Mayor Chris Montgomery’s use of town e-mail to communicate with a woman who is not his wife, said Karen Shore, president and CEO of the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce and member of Mooresville’s All-America City steering committee.
“We started this year with the resignation of the town manager, and now we’re facing the resignation and departure of our director of economic development,” Shore said.
Town Manager Steve Husemann’s resignation became effective at midnight on Jan. 9, at which time Erskine Smith, Mooresville’s longtime assistant town manager, became interim town manager.
Only three days later, the Mooresville-South Iredell Economic Development Corporation announced that Executive Director Russ Rogerson had accepted a position as senior vice president of economic development services at the Charlotte Regional Partnership. Rogerson’s resignation from the MSIEDC is effective Jan. 31.
The All-America City bid was Montgomery’s brainchild and his most touted project in 2010.
“Transitions in municipal government and economic development, plus recent strains between myself and the board have unfortunately overshadowed the initial intent,” Montgomery said in a Jan. 25 e-mail to the Report/Mooresville Weekly.
The All-America City designation is the country’s oldest and most prestigious community recognition award, according to the website of the National Civic League, which grants the annual award to “communities of all sizes that collaboratively tackle challenges and achieve results.”

Is anyone surprised? And apparently none of the Town Councilmen were man enough to pick up the ball once it was dropped.
Oh, and we're not going to get as many cable customers as we guessed, er hoped, I mean budgeted for this fiscal year either.

Abraham: got us into the water/sewer fiasco as well as the MIC fiasco
Atkins: supports MIC, now using the MIC Advisory Group as propoganda tool for the town, failed to take leadership role in C4K, wife now works for another of the town's payroll, failure to get the ethics committe up and running
Montgomery: has not served honorably as mayor, failed to follow through on promises to fight MIC
Houston: voted for MIC, still supports MIC, does not provide public leadership on the board -- just sits back and lets things flow
Who would you like to see run for office? Who do you think really has the fortitude to get in there and do what's right and to not bow down to the party line or the good ol' boys?

If you're looking purely at the initial MIC vote from 2007, Abraham and Houston voted against it, Carney and Herring voted for it....Thunberg broke the tie.

Also Carneys brother got one of the easy high paying jobs at the Chamber of Commerce. wonder how that happen?
now is the time to start asking others to consider replacing this bunch of turkies. they have been in place too long and now consider themselves untouchable. in the past we had a bad case of old-buddy system is why dumb bunny Erskine is in power he and the whole group must be replaced. There are those of us in the community who refuse to recognize the authority of any elected official who supports the hiring of the incompetent, ethically ambiguous, and scandal ridden Erskine Smith as our town manager. Whether they are aware of this or not, this single poor decision has destroyed the credibility of the entire Town Council. Until and unless this travesty is corrected, we will work tirelessly to insure the full exposure and removal of any and all such officials who continue to stubbornly support Smith to the detriment of our town’s welfare.

Alright people. Not so fast. I understand the growing anger over Erskine being handed the town manager job on a silver platter. I get it. It’s like we’re all slowly waking up and realizing that the town clown’s been named captain of our sinking ship. But here’s the deal. Not everybody on that board wants him there. There’s the mayor and two commissioners who’ve got Erskine’s back, three commissioners would just as soon give him the boot, and one just doesn’t have a clue. So we can’t throw the baby out with the bath water here. We’re gonna have to be smart about how we do this.
The Mayor's as good as gone, so that leaves the two Commishes who have Erskine Smith's back. I guess we will just have to throw those two particular ones out the door right alongside the Mayor. Its getting easier to do with every election cycle. No worries. Just give us their names.
The whole thing with Carney praising the Howards (Big Rick and mini-me) still seems fishy.
Something more going on there with that relationship.
