Mooresville's town manager resigns

(Reprinted from Mooresville Weekly online:)

MOORESVILLE – The town has released Town Manager Steve Husemann’s resignation letter. His resignation is effective midnight, Jan. 9. Husemann’s letter reads as follows:

January 3, 2011
Honorable Mayor Chris Montgomery
Board of Commissioners
Town of Mooresville

Dear Town Board Members:

I have supported the concept of the professional Council Manager form of government since I was fourteen and have enjoyed 35 years of success serving six different cities. In the past two years, Mooresville has been another success story. When the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is released next week, it will show that we had an excellent year financially putting over $3.7 million back into the fund balance reserve in a year that we budgeted to draw over $4 million out of reserves. Our success however was not just about money. We increased professionalism in the Police Department in working toward accreditation, earned the GFOA Budget award, (we’re seeking the GFOA CAFR award), and reduced the number of citizen complaints. The Town has won numerous awards and received numerous grants. We have the best workforce that we have ever had and we have developed much stronger internal rules and procedures for our operation. Quite simply, we have been improving the operations of our town departments at the most basic level while administering over $50 million in construction contracts for long term improvements in the Town.

Despite these successes, it is obvious that the Board is looking at a different vision. It appears at this time, that it is in the best interests of the Board to seek out a Manager whose management style is more consistent to that of the Board’s expectations. I would like to officially resign effective on January 9 and enable the Board to proceed with their future plans. I wish nothing but the best for the Town of Mooresville and I am looking forward to pursuing new opportunities here in Mooresville or elsewhere.

Respectfully submitted,
Steven C. Husemann

THE BOARD NEEDS PUPPETS, AND OBVIOUSLY MR. HOUSEMAN WON'T STOOP SO LOW.
Congratulations Mr. Houseman on your accomplishments, and may you enjoy success to whatever new things are on the horizon. GOO LUCK

Needed to go...They will just hire another damn yankee which knows nothing about this area only knows how they messed up the north now comes here trying to ruin the town. A very bad thing is that Erskine Smith Acting City Manager...What a joke

At least now we can get the 4 people who keep posting from the sheriff's office off this blog for a couple of days.

Campbell, is that you? What is really sad is that even though a multitude of people have direct knowledge of the corruption in the Sheriffs office only a handful are willing to push the issues. A general cop out is people's attitude that all Sheriffs are corrupt and that it isn't going to change no matter who is Sheriff.

Now back to Steve Husemann’s resignation letter...

Vic.... you're exactly right. It's always someone else's fault. Maybe you should follow Husemann (spelled correctly) to his next venture.

Great news that he is gone but my god Erskine Smith? John Fox is looking for work but Erskine is more of a loser than he was.

I would be curious to know if other towns in NC of similar size have a town manager and an assistant town manager.
While it's handy to have an assistant to turn to when you get mad at the town manager...it seems like a pretty pricey insurance policy.

Vic IS right. Husemann was formerly dealing with a majority of crooked AND inept politicians.

Prissy Chrissy the RINO and the old Mayor were the ring-leaders. The old mayor was willing to feather the nests of his crooked accomplices, the new mayor is oblivious to the whole scene. He even admitted that it took him a year to learn enough about government to be able to speak in meeting in his interview in last Sunday's Tribune.

With the exception of the black guy and the short guy, we have the biggest collection of losers in the south running our town.

No wonder Husemann is looking for "greener" pastures.

3:33 why did you not run? you probably do not have any friends that would vote for you except maybe your family.
Things like this blog and the useless Mooresville Tribune writing rumors and make up things is exactly why most people do not run for office here.
This blog and the Tribune always wants to write about the bad things or things that they think are bad. This board and the others before them are not and were not perfect but at least they most likely tried their best and they all did some good things.
Granted like the 3 fools and the dumb ass mayor that voted for the Cable and Raders $500,000.00 Skate park now that was just plain ass stupid .

4:04 I didn't run for the same reason you didn't run. It wouldn't make any difference anyway... We would be outvoted by the idiots and the crooks that make up a long tradition of old-boy network political cooking in Mooresville. Some of the money people must have seriously misjudged Montgomery as someone they could influence when they let him get elected, or else they just didn't figure he could win. Anyway, what a big surprise it must be to have someone who is too honest for corruption, and too stupid to do a good job on the legitimate side of the table. I noticed that you called people names in your last sentence. The urge was just too great, wasn't it? I know the feeling.

Now if the Wes Green, the Mooresville Fire Chief, will follow Huseman's lead and take his self serving and "look at me agenda" with him things will continue to move in the right direction.

Anyone hear the rumor swirling about the mayor of Mooresville?

Could be another resignation coming your way.

Spit it out, 4:08. We're all waiting.

Maybe that's what John Holmes was talking about. :-)

Check our Friday's paper. There are rumors that he used his public email to have intimate emails with someone other than his wife.

They aren't rumors. He did it. He tried to deny it until the reporter put printed copies in front of his face. His private life isn't so much an issue as his character. He was only sorry when he got caught. If he hadn't, he'd still be planning to leave his wife and kids for the woman. Just read the emails they reported. I don't know why his wife would believe any half-assed excuses. It's no surprise. Just ask anyone who's ever worked with him. He used to work for the Tribune and the Statesville Record & Landmark... then a failed venture with the Lake Norman Times. He ran that publication in the ground, what made you think he could run our town? Plenty of people stepped forward to warn us.

Hahaha, yep, you gotta hand it to ole' Chris. Not much has changed. He's always been a snake in the grass hiding behind a joker's mask. Even his family is fooled. I know a couple of people he cheated out of pay when he was an ad manager. He has always cheated on paper and covered his ass. Just wait, Mooresville, there's more to come. Hope you learn your lessons early cuz Montgomery is only getting started.

Does anyone here think Miles Atkins would do any better? He's part of the same system and therefore still part of the problem. If he was the solution doesn't anyone think he would have done something by now?
