I am one of the people who voted for Chris Montgomery. My vote was a vote AGAINST the former mayor, Bill Thunberg. I was not alone. There were many like me on that day. We knew Montgomery was not a keeper. We also knew how dangerous Thunberg was. We chose the lesser of two evils. I will take a sheep in wolf's clothing any day over a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Let this be a lesson to the next turkey who thinks they can get up there and start abusing their powers. We'll tar and feather them and kick their asses out of office just like it's happened to the last three mayors. Now if you're honest, you're gonna do fine. If you aren't honest, you're probably gonna go through hell. Everybody in this town has become a watchdog.

Some of us have a long memory. Just go over to the left side of this page and look for "Mayor Bill Thunberg" and you will get just a small taste of how sneaky creepy weasly and underhanded he was. I agree with the commenters above. The Chris Montgomeries of this world quickly shoot themselves in the foot. The Thunbergs burrow in for a nice long stay milking the system.

Looks like Gatton's gone after this mayor with as much gusto as she did with the other one. Good for her. The crooks in this town are real slow learners.

As long as mainstream media refuses to do its due diligence, they will continue to be scooped by cyber sleuths such as Jaime Gattons - the new modern day heroes.

Where is the "mainstream media" when it comes to the unfolding debacle of Erskine Smith being given the town manager position? There's a book of articles dating back almost ten years detailing his shady dealings. He's had his dirty little fingers into every scandal that's gone on in Mooresville.

It is more than 10 years he has taken this town for a ride for over 25 years at first by permission of his highness Joe Knox. No one dared to challenge him when Rick McLean was in power because Rick was controled by Knox. Smith is famous for his antics in every area such as being a defacto volunteer fireman who would desert his desk and run to every fire in his town owned car- now is drawing his retirement from that stolen position, then down through the years the escapes to near and far golf trips in that same car, now wants to spend over 10 million dollars on a municipal golf course, then there was the library, then the police station, and it goes on and on now we have a bunch of cronies who says he is the greatest manager ever. When November comes lets start cleaning house.

There's a legitimate difference between Montgomery (using town e-mail to cheat on your wife, applying for jobs that are a clear conflict of interest, and being called to resign by fellow boardsmen) and Thunberg (voting on an unpopular cable purchase, which is a constitutional power vested by town articles). Thunberg never had controversial antics. He was never called to resign by the Charlotte Observer. Other members of the board never complained about how he ran the show.
Just because you're fiscally responsible doesn't mean you should be satisfied at all by what Montgomery has done. He needs to go...keep strumming his Margaritaville music somewhere else. I agree - Mooresville needs real leadership or else we aren't looking credible.

I agree with 2:36. Montgomery has to go. Period. If not today, then tomorrow. But I disagree with 2:36 about Thunberg. I have been keeping up with this blog for some time and read all the articles about Thunberg's repeated attempts at abusing his powers. Good riddance to both of these men.

The Town Board's failure (or refusal) to initiate a proper search for a Town Manager signals a clear abdication of their duties. We are at a critical juncture economically and we cannot afford to close our eyes to the reality that we need someone highly qualified and respected to manage the town. A Town Manager must also inspire great confidence in the community at large. Each day that passes without our leaders actively searching for such a person is an opportunity lost.

Screw Thunburg and the horse he rode in on. My grandchildren will be paying for his part in Cablegate.

Actually, January 27, 2011, 2:36 p.m. is totally missing the forest for the trees. At the end of the day, how much harm did I or my family actually feel as a result of Montgomery's misdeeds? Very little. But thanks to the former mayor, we are saddled with astronomic debt from his rotten to the core cable purchase.

Chris Montgomery has abused his position in every job he's ever had. Ask anyone who has worked with him. He's just getting started as Mayor. If our town by some insane chance re-elects him, you'll see just how much damage our families can "feel". He's a liar, a thief, and a self serving individual who would sell each and every one of us out in a heartbeat. Especially if there was some kind of financial gain. This last situation was an attempt to get his foot in the door with Langtree. I have no doubt if it had gone unnoticed, he would have tried trading favors with the development group. He just thought they were the kind who scratched each other's backs. If I was his business partner in the magazine business, I'd be cutting him loose before my profits went in the toilet. Ask his co-workers at the Lake Norman Times who put their faith in him. He ran that publication into the ground. Save yourselves before the ship starts sinking.
