Victim(s): Zaxby’s
On January 19, 2010 a pocketbook was stolen from Redemption Outreach Church. The pocketbook contained a number of gift cards. Some of the gift cards that were in the pocketbook were used at Zaxby’s in Lincolnton on January 21st and 22nd, 2010. Security videos were obtained from Zaxby’s for the two dates in question. Both videos show a white male using the stolen gift cards. In one of the videos a second older white male was shown accompanying the suspect using the stolen gift cards. The video shows no evidence that the second older white male was involved in the use of the stolen gift cards. An individual came forward after seeing the video on the local news. The individual gave a statement identifying the person in the video using the stolen gift cards as Jamie Miller from Mooresville, NC. Along with that individual’s statement and other information, warrants were issued for Jamie Miller reference to using the stolen gift cards. The older white male was NEVER identified by the individual that gave the statement identifying Jamie Miller.
After the warrants had been issued, anonymous information came into the Lincolnton Police Department identifying other names as being the individual in the Zaxby’s video. The leads were followed up on by the Lincolnton Police Department. Stephen Eugene Travis was interviewed reference to stolen gift cards and he confessed to being the individual on the Zaxby’s security video. Two of the stolen gift cards were recovered from Stephen Travis along with other items that were purchased with the cards. Stephen Travis is cooperating with the investigation at this time. Stephen Travis will be charged reference to the use of the stolen cards. The investigation in the original larceny of the pocketbook is on going.
Jamie Miller was never arrested by the Lincolnton Police Department on the issued charges. The warrants issued on Jamie Miller reference to the stolen gift cards were taken to the District Attorney’s office by the Lincolnton Police Department so the charges could be dismissed. The District Attorney’s office dismissed all charges on Jamie Miller reference to the use of the stolen gift cards. In addition there have been news reports that the second individual in one of the videos was the father of Jamie Miller, Harold Miller a Captain at the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. None of the witnesses that identified Jamie Miller as the suspect could identify the second individual. The Lincolnton Police Department NEVER identified the second individual as Harold Miller. The investigation of the case has revealed that neither, Jamie Miller or Harold Miller was involved in the use of the stolen gift cards at Zaxby’s.

Dannile Cooke which is a probation officer in mooresville is the one that told lincoln pd that it was Miller in the video. She has pranced around the mooresville office with her gloating face saying how sure she was, and how she would "put him under" if she got the chance. I cant wait to hear you in the morning. No one in the mooresville office can stand her anyway. As for little Ms Gatton, why has the other 2 post not been removed. There was NO truth to them. I look forward to seeing how you react to the lawsuit that Harold filed against you.
I have been a reader of this blog since it was 1st started. I can't help but wounder why the other two reports that you have on here hasn't been removed? It seems to me that they are false reports now. I was under the impression that Ms. Gatton only reported on the fact, and the facts now clearly show neither one of the people were involved. I look forward to seeing both reports removed from here Ms. Gatton.
Maybe had Gatton gone and LOOKED at the evidence the Sheriff tried to get her to look at..but NO she was lazy and had a political agenda in her eye....All of this could have been avoided. I am proud the Sheriff did not post the video, and crucify an innocent family......All I can say is the Sheriff tried to give Jamie Gatton all the evidence, that he said proved it was not Mller remember Gatton does not meet people before she writes I guess she needs to get the facts stright......I think the Millers have one big lawsuit because of the attempt to harm Miller in his professional career.
This blog is a joke. Just a bunch of people that probally dont know this guy at all. Is this how people from the south treat other people? I have met Capt. Miller, and found him to be an upstanding person of value. Im sure him nor his son deserved any of this. Sherriff Redmond Has done a fine job since i moved to Mooresville in 2002, and his employees seem to be upstanding as well. In closing, i hope that both Miller's find peace, and are left alone now.

I agree 10-20 the drug plants story was info from a Nicholson supporter ( Chris Owen was the reprting officer) on the report which AFTER the story was written we found it to be wrong, now this was proven false. If I was Nicholson or Blocker whichever supports this type of false dirt to be thrown should call it quits....Sheriff Redmond this shows how experience counts you did not bend to the pressure to release false info even though everyone was saying the Sheriff's Office was hiding it, you knew the truth and tried to tell Jamie but you stood strong in defense of your officer....you are the man, and a great Sheriff and you now will have my family's vote. About Mrs. Cooke who seems to know everything she has made it clear that her friends at Lincolnton PD was approched by a Assistant District Attorney who thought the video showed Jamie Miller supposedly went and got a court order to get a copy...now why would a ADA from Iredell County want video of a crime that occured in another judical district maybe a little political agenda, I also find this interesting because one of the ADA's in the Statesville office is in a relationship with a strong Nicholson supporter Mr. Nitzu who has told everyone how bad the Sheriff's Office and the Mooresville PD is even though he worked for both then left. Just a thought

Folks, primaries are on May 10 -- not a lot of time. Sure would be nice to have all the candidates for Sheriff take part in a candidates forum to learn about their view of the department, their goals/aspirations, their experience, and how they plan to achieve those goals.
That might be more productive than the mud slinging which took place earlier. Anyone up for helping get this arranged?

To all the bloggers before. What is the purpose of your rants against Jamie Gatton. For years I have been hearing bad things about the Sheriff. Since the election cycle has started I haven't had one conversation with any group of people where at least one of them didn't have some very negative things to say about our current SHeriff and most of the time it was more than one person. THese things range from his affairs with various women, to the way he treats his employee's , to allegations he deals drugs himself and only arrests those drug dealers who are not connected with him. I would like to see some real investigations into these matters simply due to the amount of allegations that I have heard. Isn't it time for someone to ask the questions we all would like to know the answer to. Jamie Gatton asks questions and tries to get honest answers. THere is no crime in that,infact this is how our society is kept in check. Since no local papers seem to allow any investigtive reporting we have to rely on individuals like Jamie Gatton. In this case the facts appear to be that channel nine issued a picture of man committing a crime. That man was named by more than on individual as appearing to be Jamie Miller ( who 1. had skipped bond 2. has many pending felony charges , these facts cannot be disputed) One of the persons being the bondsman whom he skipped out on. All this so far is fact, doesn't appear that any one is trying to do anything malicious. Others who know Jamie and his father thought the man with the person committing the crime looked like Harold Miller who is Jamie's father. After all this came about Iredell County Sheriff Redmond stated he had a vidio of Harold Miller coming out of the court house at the time the crime took place and that he had a copy of the vidio of the incident at the crime scene showing it was not Harold Miller. SHeriff Redmonds said he was going to show these vidio's as well as channel nine, but I have yet to see anywhere they have been shown publicly. Yes all this raised questions. Now all of a sudden someelse has confessed to the crime. I myself have never met Jamie Miller or his father but have spoken to many people who know them well and had seen the vidio and said they were 100 percent sure as to fact that it was them so I find it strange after reading all the allegations that Redmond has connections and money that all of a sudden someone else confessess to this crime. While it may be that everyone was wrong and it is not Jamie MIller in the vidio I still wonder if this doesn't somehow prove what others were saying about things being covered up by money and connections As to the other mention of the blog about the pot plants I don't see how anyone could think that situation was handeled properly by the Sheriff. THe Davidson man admitted there were pot plants found in his garden ,near his house, he wasn't charged, but called in on Monday by the Sheriff and then nothing ever came of it. Doesn't this just prove that if Redmond is your friend you don't get charged for drugs. For me this gives evidence of him not arresting drug dealers whom he knows but I really would like more follow up on all these things mentioned and all the other things mentioned. It's too bad that all of these persons who say they know things the Sheriff has done cannot come together as a group and get to the bottom of the question Is our current SHeriff an honest, moral man or not. I like Jamie too, but this lead turned out to be a dead end -- completely. What I disliked about the all the mud in the last reports were the "he said - she said" allegations of wrong doing. That's all heresay and has no place in this conversation. There are anonymous bloggers being sued around the country because of libelous statements inserted into a blog. If someone has PROOF of wrongdoing, I urge you to come forward with that proof, no matter how tough it may be to move beyond anonymity.
Regardless of the fact if the man in the vidio is Jamie Miller or not if Jamie is a fugitive from justice with 20 some warrents out on him why are those of you that know him trying to defend him on here like he is some model citizen everyone is trying to distroy.

Cooke is a probation officer from mooresville that very much so dislikes jamie and his father harold.(it goes alot deeper) The DA is the one that requested the video from lincolnton pd. This whole thing is political.I have a feeling when all of this comes to close, there will be some very surprised people out there. As far as the skip bond thing goes, if i was being framed by the crooked ones in Iredell county, id be running to! I think since the truth came out on this, he will turn his self in anyways. Didn't Jamie skip bond long before the so called framing incident? If he wasn't on the run maybe he wouldn't have been identified as the man in the vidio, There would have been no way anyone would have thought it was him if he had been in prison.
From what i understand, he had a car wreck, and was in the hospital. I dont see why they didnt just set a new court date. What doesnt make sense to me is, he was charged in 2006, and has always appeared at his court dates. Why now? It doesnt make sense why he would all of the sudden not appear in court. It just sounds fishy to me. I heard from a very reliable source that the DA's office agreed to drop all but 1 of the charges.

The DA's office in Iredell county got a court order to obtain the video from lincolnton pd. The court order is public record. I went today a looked at it. All of this just makes no sense. I think all of the intrest in this guy from the DA's office, has to do with the election and his father. There is an assistant DA in Iredell that has a very close relationship with Mr. Nitzu, which is very close supporter of Nicholson which is running for sheriff. There are way to many open ends to this. To many fingers in the cookie jar, and WAY to people posting on this blog that has no idea what they are even talking about.

I know Jamie personally, and he was in the hospital from a car wreck. It just blows my mind why they didn't set another courtdate. I know that all the paperwork from the hospital was set to the DA's office but, they had other plans on there plate. A court order is public record. It may can be found on the internet, but i know 100% postive it can be obtained from the courthouse in Iredell because i walked over today just to see a copy of it, and to voice my concern into the matter. It all boils down to the DA's office is trying so hard to build a case from nothing, and to try and cover there own ass on mistakes. I just dont see where a supposed crime from another county would benifit them in a case, unless it had to do with revoking a bond, or a request to revoke. Either way, Lincolnton pd has the one that commited the crime now, and Mr. Miller is in the clear on that case.

The guy in the video looks nothing like Jamie. You can clearly tell the picture on the news tonight was the same guy in the video. He had a big blad spot on the top of his head.

I sent a e mail yesterday to ask the State Probation Department to look into this matter and see if Mrs. Cooke did violate the law or her office. To me it sounds like she did. Jamie Miller is a crook, his record speaks for it's self. He has stolen from his own family and he is currently a wanted man. If you have any doubts go to the clerk's office and get his criminal record. As for Harold he has always been polite and nice every time I have spoken to him. As far as the video why would a DA from another jurisdiction want a video about a crime that does not effect them. This does not make any sense to me.

I went to the courthouse this morning while i was in Statesville, and got a copy of the court order for the DA's office to obtain the video from Licnolnton PD. It shows cause as "mutual intrest". I went to the DA's office and ask about it but was told to leave, and that no info would be giving to anyone. I can't help but question why this is. I personally think this goes way beyond the boundries of the law, and steps right into the boundries of political BS.

Look at the report that Sheriff Redmond put on the Iredell County Sheriff dept. home page. Even he knows that there are corrupt people in the DA's office.

I too noticed that they are already working on the defense that Redmond's reputation speaks for itself, they know he won't and can't remember all his lies in front of a crowd. They also know that he doesn't have a clue about all the "Redmond said" crap in the press. He isn't a law enforcement officer, he is a politician and a very defensive one at that. He isn't a leader either. When something good happens, Redmond is right there taking credit, Redmond said, Redmond posing for the camera. When things go bad, he always says that he didn't know anything about it.

I used to read this blog on a very regular basis, but lately it seems like Jamie has her own agenda for this election. I was one of those people who were wondering why she was a blocker fan and after someone brought it up she joined all of the groups. Something is wrong with this picture and this blog.
There is something wrong with this picture, it's called Redmond. Self serving and thinks he is infallible. Talk to the man and decide for yourself.
Wow! She joined ALL the groups? That really shows favoritism. Possibly she is just a concerned taxpayer who wants to know what is going on for herself and a journalist who wants to share what she finds out.
Personally I think it is great that she is willing to stick her neck out to ask questions. It used to be that most reporters were investigative reporters. Now they just write stories about what you already now and already happened.

I have been a reader of thisblog for a long time, and i cant help but wounder "WHY" Ms. gatton hasnt removed the other 2 reports that she posted on here. Why hasnt she responded to any of the questions asking that? She won't even ply on her own blog as to why. I personally think that she is all about the political aspect of all this. After reading your post I did a Google search of the Iredell County Sheriffs DEPARTMENT. You say that Sheriffs office is an old term and I agree that it was in use years ago, but not here according to my research. (You claimed that your opponent didn't do his research.)
I found an officer down page in about a minute that listed the place as the Iredell County Sheriffs DEPARTMENT. There is information about 3 officers who were killed in the line of duty in Iredell County. One was in 1917, another in 1919 and the last in 1934. They all worked for the Iredell County Sheriffs DEPARTMENT. Do you need some dates older than that?

According to the Sheriffs office Association website, the following agencies are still departments per their own websites:
Allegany, Carteret, Edgecomb, Gates, Graham, Mitchell, Pamlico, Perquimans, Stokes, and Washington County. There are a bunch that don't have website and I suspect are still departments.

Here is another fact, the largest Sheriffs agency in the world (according to their website) is the Los Angelos County Sheriffs DEPARTMENT. I can't imagine that any other Sheriffs agency is more up to date with equipment and training than L.A. County and they see no need for change in terminology to sound fancier.

According to the Sheriffs Office history page, Clyde Lloyd was elected in 1986 and I am pretty sure that Redmond didn't work for him.
So from when Redmond was a jailer until Clyde came in is a time frame of 12 years. Redmond has been in office this time for about 15 years.
12 + 15 = 27 years. Unless Redmond worked somewhere else in the time he was not at Iredell County, he falls 8 years short of the experience he claims. (According to his website www.IredellSheriff.com.)

I wonder if the Redmond and Landfill would allow Cheek, Stamey, Phil Blocker or Nicholson to use their resources to promote their position and to NOT investigate accustations of wrong doing? I do know that they have ruined their credibility a long time ago by promoting Redmond's agenda.

He does not have much experience to lead men into battle. Blocker has never even worked at the Sheriff's and has very little experience in drug interdiction, civil, etc....but he has more management experience than Nicholson

As far as Sheriffs Office versus Sheriffs Department NOT BEING AN ISSUE, apparently that was an issue with a citizen or they wouldn't have asked. Obviously that citizen's question isn't important to you or Phil Redmond.
Apparently it was an issue with the Redmond crew or you wouldn't have brought it up on here. What happened was that you have tried to use something that was nothing to make another candidate look bad and it obviously backfired, so now it doesn't matter. I see. We ALL see.
I'll tell you one thing, Nicholson must be a pretty good fellow to not jump back on you. It does make me question his backbone a little. Try jumping on Phil Blocker that way and see how that works. He won't tolerate it as long as Nicholson has.
I had already seen Blockers website. I know him so his website was not of much importance to me. He has my vote.
I looked at Nicholson's website though. Really impressive. He has a lot of straight to the point thoughts. I like the question and answer page as well. I think it say's a lot that he is open to the public with his views. He looks like a really nice guy and a hard worker. I think it would be interesting to meet him sometime. When Phil B. wins this thing he should keep Nicholson on and make him one of his top men. I believe he would be an asset. It is wonderful that we have so many qualified candidates running this time. It will be great to have someone to vote FOR instead of just voting against someone.

What is going on at the Redmond and Skidmark???? First they write an article about brother Phil endorsing two people for the same office and now they write an article about a sexual harassment law suit and point out that two people who resigned to keep from getting fired for their innappropriate behavior now work at the Sheriffs office. Looks like the Redmond defense team is on there trying to do damage control. Someone by the name of Bulldozer.
What is even more amazing is that Donna Swicegood wrote the article. It must have been a slip of the pen OR she didn't realize how bad this makes the Sheriff look.

Endorsements relly don't mean a lot (especially if from Redmond) He has had only One endorsed candidate win an election in the last two years. 12:05 My understanding is that McDaniels was moved to head of Lake Enforcement due to problems where he was. It was during his stint over lake Enforcement that the sexual harrassment allegations came up. He was then moved to head of Detectives which would be a promotion. At the last there were alledgedly monetary issues in the evidence room and he then resigned. This is a good example of how Redmond's inner circle is allowed to conduct themselves and how "problems" are handled. Anyone have different details than that, or the same?
I have not saw Redmond in a few months. Someone told me he is losing weight drastically. Is that true? Is it because of his stomach and the nerves or is that him showing the people he was only Fat and Happy when he had no serious competition? I mean how lean should a 70 year old man be? Also I noticed all the trashbag signs of his on Perth Road and Troutman are either on in-laws yards (I do believe that is the inmate crew that has been picking up trash in those areas as well)or in his mistress's aunts yard. The next Sheriff of Iredell County will come from the Republican Primary. Our President took care of any chances the Democrats had in the Health Care debate. So, it comes down to Phil Redmond, Phil Blocker and Mark Nicholson. With Nicholson, it would appear that he is a good person, long time sheriff's office employee, with no supervisory experience. What does that have to offer, other than simple change? With Blocker, you have a long time law enforcement officer, who has some supervisory experience. When looking at his background and agenda, published on his campaign cards, it would appear that he's never worked in a large department or commanded such, and some of his ideas are politically driven. With Redmond, you already know what you're getting. In his years at the helm, the department has grown tremendously. Iredell County has a professional crime laboratory that most agencies their size would envy. He has educated, professional law enforcement officer in a lot of rank and file positions. Does he have problems? Sure he does, who doesn't. Would the department be better off with some personnel adjustments? Sure, which department would not. From my seat, it would appear that status quo is best. Hopefully, Redmond will work towards finding a good replacement, when he's decided it's time to go to another calling.

9:28 I think the correct term is "Christian when convenient". That is how Redmond and his inner circle roll. Church on Sunday and then Monday through Friday it is Lake Myers, Yadkin County, Wallace Springs Road, the Mobile Command Unit, Jail Conferences, Etc.
That is why Sheriff Redmond holds the majority of his officers to such a "high standard". He doesn't want any of their behavior to shed light on his own.
That is why he "stood up to the judge" about the use of Gods name in the courtroom and why he uses it first thing on his website (We should start with):

That is why as you pointed out he mentions God on his Facebook as does one of his inner circle members. Their audacity only shows how much they have removed their minds and hearts from any accountability for their actions. It would seem that they honestly believe that they are doing no wrong.
Since this is the Lord's day I'll send some words of encouragement for Phil Redmond and his inner circle;
Personally I think they know deep down inside just how evil they have been over the years and that the day of accountablility is coming. God only allows evil to flourish for so long. I also think that is the reason for Phil's stomach issues. Guilt and the fear of having to face up to consequences can have an overwhelmingly nagging effect on your health.

God will make things right in his own time. When he has had enough, in his time, it will come to an end. I have been and will continue to pray that when that day comes, Sheriff Redmond and his inner circle may somehow be relieved of their weaknesses and that good will prevail in their lives and that they may benefit from a life truly lived for God.

Just curious what the education levels were for the new candidates for sheriff. Are any college educated? Not to say that means more than common sense, but with a county the size of Iredell it would appear that it would require someone with a decent education to run the thing.

I recently posted that Phil Blocker cannot change the law concerning countywide jurisdiction. Jamie felt the need to remove my comment. Guess what Jamie, He cannot repeal countywide jurisdiction. That is fact. Check SL2009-44 or orginally HB676, it was radified by the governor Perdue. I know that you think Phil Blocker is mighty Jamie....but he ain't the governor. AN ACT to institute traditional jurisdictional BOUNDARIES for law enforcement agencies in IREDELL county.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. Chapter 330 of the 1971 Session Laws is repealed.
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law. Prosecutions for offenses occurring outside the territorial jurisdiction of a local law enforcement agency before the effective date of this act are not abated or affected by this act, and the statutes that would be applicable but for this act remain applicable to those prosecutions.
In the General Assembly read three times and ratified this the 28th day of May, 2009.

Every law officer should know Steve Benfield he has threatened over the years to get every officer that has had dealing with fired, yes the same one that ran for Sheriff four years ago....I was approched by him he is making alot of Nicholson's large road signs.......says alot thanks Nicholson you really are a class act this guy just wants a push button Sheriff.
I thought Benfield was the dude who has run for sheriff like a million times, and gets his a** kicked worse each time. Looks like the Redmond hates have picked a new lamb for the slaughter!!
I remember that Benfield guy. He supported Redmond in 1994 when he first got elected Sheriff and fired fifteen people at one time!
If I remember right, Redmond wiped his butt with Benfield after he was done with him like he does all of his friends.
