Two days after questions were posed here about whether a second man in a Crime Stoppers video is a high-ranking law enforcement officer in Iredell County, the video still has not been publicly released.
Suspicions continue that a man in the video of suspected thief Jamie Miller – recently aired on WSOC-TV – bears resemblance to Capt. Harold Miller (Jamie Miller’s dad) who supervises the criminal warrant service unit and patrol division of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department. Jamie Miller is being sought by Lincoln and Iredell County police. In Lincoln, he is accused of stealing gift cards from a woman in church; the Crime Stoppers video, according to police, captures Miller in a restaurant, using a stolen gift card for his purchase.
Asked in e-mails over the past two days to confirm or deny whether it is him in the video, Harold Miller wrote in an e-mail to the Report today: “A simple answer to your simple question is NO it's not me."
As of today, a second video has apparently surfaced, which according to Donna Swicegood of the Statesville Record & Landmark “shows Harold Miller was in Mooresville 2 minutes after his son used the card at the Zaxby's in Lincolnton.” This new video was apparently captured at the courthouse in Mooresville (the Iredell County Government Center).
Swicegood said the sheriff’s department showed the new video to the Record & Landmark and WSOC-TV. After viewing both videos, Swicegood concluded: “Harold is clearly shown in the one from the government center. And the one from Lincolnton doesn't look anything like him.”
Asked if the Record & Landmark plans to post both original videos – time-stamped and dated – to its website, Swicegood said she didn’t know.
She said “Harold is in the video at the (Mooresville) government center at 3:12 p.m.”
But the time-stamp on the Lincoln County restaurant surveillance video offered little help in determining where Miller was at the time, because apparently, the time stamp was inaccurate. “The restaurant video is time stamped but it's clearly the wrong time because it is stamped early in the morning, like 3 a.m or something when Zaxby's is not open,” Swicegood said.
She said Lincolnton PD records the time of the crime in the restaurant as 3:11 p.m., which would mean Harold Miller was in Mooresville at the time his son used the gift card in Lincolnton. It is unclear at this time how the Lincolnton Police Department pinpointed the time of the crime at 3:11 p.m. and what documentation has been provided to substantiate that.
Swicegood said WSOC recorded the videos that the Sheriff’s Department showed today and that the news station plans to air both videos. It’s unclear when the videos will play on Channel 9.
Capt. Darren Campbell – who supervises criminal investigations, community policing and lake enforcement for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department – e-mailed the Report yesterday in an effort to set up a meeting this morning with the sheriff. In a reply, I expressed my appreciation to both Campbell and Redmond for their willingness to meet and accommodate my schedule. However, as most readers know, I do not participate in closed-door meetings with government officials. I added in my reply to the sheriff and Campbell: “I’m sure the sheriff would agree that having written answers to the questions I posed would be in the best interest of everyone involved. The questions are simple and straight-forward, and they warrant simple, straight-forward answers.”
I also thanked the two men for offering to share the information they have in regard to this particular case. “I look forward to receiving the information and hope it clears up this situation once and for all,” I concluded.
But no one responded to that e-mail. The information was not shared. And still, neither video is available for public viewing.
Mid-day today, the Report e-mailed Redmond, asking if he planned to add the two videos from Zaxby's and the courthouse to the sheriff's website to help calm some of the suspicions that have been circulating the past couple weeks.
Redmond’s response: “Thank you for your email. I had a message emailed to you yesterday requesting you come and meet at the Sheriff's Office so you could look over several items of interest from this investigation. I invited you first because, I wanted you to see all the evidence before anyone, since you asked me to answer some questions first. I was made aware of your policy which will not allow that type of meeting. I was sorry, to hear that you did not want to meet and review all the evidence in the case.”
In response, the Report asked the sheriff – again – if he planned to add the two videos to the Sheriff’s Department website. So far, that e-mail has gone unanswered.
Redmond had told the Report earlier in the day that he has a copy of the original Crime Stoppers video. “I received a copy of the original video and your request the same day,” he said, adding that he “ordered an internal investigation into this matter” after being contacted by WSOC.
Redmond said the man in the Crime Stoppers video is “absolutely not” Harold Miller. “Based on evidence that we have and are willing to make available to you, it is proven this is not Captain Miller. I am again extending you an invitation to come and view the evidence.”
It is unclear why Redmond will not post “the evidence” on his websites or in an e-mail.
When asked if the Sheriff’s Department has video-enhancement equipment that could enhance the Crime Stoppers surveillance footage and clear up suspicions about the man on the clip, Redmond acknowledged that the department has such equipment. However, he said, “The video did not need enhancing. It was very clear from the first time it was reviewed; the man in the video was not Captain Miller.
“Based on our investigation which Captain Miller cooperated with, he was at another location in Mooresville on secured video, approximately one minute prior to the man in the video using the card in Lincolnton. We will assist Lincolnton Police Department in any way if requested.”
Redmond also posted a statement today on his Facebook page and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department website which reads in full:
“My agency was contacted by WSOC-TV in Charlotte late last week in reference to reports that they had received about a video clip the Lincolnton Police Department requested them to run to assist them in an investigation that they were conducting. In the video there were two men, one was the suspect and the other was a by-stander.
“Questions came to WSOC-TV that the by-stander was an employee of my office.
“An internal investigation was conducted based on this inquiry. It is the policy of this office not to release any information while an investigation in ongoing.
“Several questions have been raised in various media outlets wanting information and several rumors were started.
“Based on information that was uncovered during the investigation it has been proven beyond any doubt that the person in the video clip WSOC-TV aired, was not an employee of my office. My employee was in the courthouse in Mooresville. He is seen on encrypted tamper proof security camera footage at 3:12 pm. The crime occurred in Lincolnton at 3:11 pm.
“I have been asked specific questions by a freelance media outlet and have answered them. I have made it clear on numerous occasions that I would meet with her and show her the evidence. My office received correspondence from her. She stated she would not ‘Participate in closed-door meetings.’ My door is open and I am willing to provide any and all evidence that was gathered to prove my employee was not involved in this matter to anyone.
“Because of the rumors and speculation that have swirled around this issue I am coming forward with this information to put these questions to rest.

Hopefully the sheriff will make the videos publicly available soon. Once he posts them, we’ll link to them here.

Good, Iredell county can use there equipment to clear his son also, because that clearly isnt him in the video either.
Whether it is or not really does not matter to me. The facts still remain Harold Is a Captain over a warrant squad and all patrol deputies. There is outstanding warrants once again on his son Jamie. How is it that Jamie has been wanted since October 09 and he has not been arrested? Does Redmond really want us voters to think that is normal. I remember Jeff Coggins sure arrested his oldest son several times when he broke the law. Of course we had a good sheriff then that made it plain your immediate family could have a negative impact upon your career, if you did not handle the situation properly.

Deception is Sheriff Phillip Redmonds favorite method of choice. This video ordeal is only a small part of what he does. He commonly deceives the public to get votes and to support his ego.
Another recent example is the use of the COPS program. from the sheriffs website;
"During the past 8 years Sheriff Redmond sought grant monies to fund the C.O.P.s (Community Oriented Police) unit in the Brawley School and Langtree Rd areas and Perth Rd, Hwy 21 South sections of Iredell County where growth is overwhelming. These units are designed to provide quality service, quicker response and community-oriented officers to their areas of the county. Due to the rapid growth in both population and traffic, Sheriff Redmond and the citizens in those areas are working together in an effort to accomplish a common goal of community safety and awareness.
In the C.O.P.s area 9 officers are assigned to bike, motorcycle and road patrol and Lake Enforcement to assure all areas are served."
Okay, the grants were Federal grants according to what I have been told. That means that the funds were designated to work that area and were written as needed due to the congestion and traffic and polulation. It should specify that. You can get a copy of the grant request and the grant as it will be public record. If so, the use of these officers and equipment or any resources somewhere else should be considered a misuse of those Federal funds. Also the unit was designed to be used in areas with "rapid growth in both population and traffic" and places "where growth is overwhelming."
Not to mention that Redmond is ALWAYS bringing up the COPS program to show what he has done for the south end of the county.
Many of us are wondering why then, C.O.P.S fliers were hung on doorknobs off of businesses on Hwy.901 in the remote Northern end of the county.
On the flier it states that "An Iredell County COPS Officer Stopped By To Meet You." It goes on to explain the COPS program and then states that , "The COPS officers are available to meet with you one on one or in a group setting."
So this program that is dedicted to the southern end of the county is now being offered to the remote northern end, and right at election time. Sounds like campaigning to me.
Now in all fairness I have to say that as told to me it was not the C.O.P.S. officers that distributed these fliers but the A.C.E. (Agressive Criminal Enforcement Team). I don't see how hanging fliers is aggressive criminal enforcement. It's more like agressive vote getting.
Not to mention that the flier is telling the residents of Nothern Iredell County that they are being offered a service that isn't even available to those citizens. Unless Phil intended on bringing them up if requested per the flier which would be lying to the south end citizens.
Just another day with Phil Redmond in charge. I have heard it said that Phil's favorite saying is It's not what you do, it's what people think you do. I believe that.
I have sent a copy of this flyer to Jamie. She is free to post it if anyone wants to question the wording on it. These fliers were distributed not once but twice because the same business received two of them. The first around March 11th and the second around March 17th. That is at least two nights that officers were having to campaign by spreading lies instead of looking for local drugs and agressively enforcing the laws.
Note; the card had an officers name at the bottom and has been blocked out. Officers only do what they have been told to do as comes down through the chain of command.
Correction on the dates, they were supposed to be February 11th and February 17th. Obviously March 11th isn't here yet.
One more note. I am sure if asked about this Sheriff Redmond will give his usual response and say he didn't know anything about it. So apparently it isn't what he does, it's what he doesn't know that he does that is causing him problems.

What would have prefered the Sheriff to do deliver it to your door?. In the above piece the Sheriff said he wanted to give it to you first. You are the one that demanded it, why not take the time and go see the so called evidence, so don't say they will not make it public, you just would not go because it would not get this blog all the attention, controversity sales. You have removed certian comments, while leaving others that you know are fabrications, and not factual, all the canidates should come on here and put a stop to it all. it is hurtful, and mean, and based on inneuendo's and some have done nothing but their jobs trying support their families. Two of those were put back on almost right away when the public pitched a fit. But after they were fired Redmond could not be found. For the first two weeks people were trying to find Redmond to talk to him to ask for their jobs back and the chickens@!t was hiding.
He is a liar and a coward. He will only confront someone if he can be in control of the situation and intimidate, another very good reason for jamie G. to not go see him in private. He wanted her to come first so that he could try to sway her with his "charm" or intimidate her if that didn't work.
Ask Deputy Keith Bills how he was ganged up on and treated and threatened for something he didn't even do. Harold headed up that little fiasco too. He wasn't even permitted to have his supervisor in the office while they yelled and the sheriff put his finger in his face. It is ICSO policy to have your surerviser with you if you are being questioned or accused of something.

Commenting from the "remote region" of Northern Iredell County, the ACE team often leaves cards in response to reports of frequent break-ins in the area. In February, there was a string of car break-ins, and out building break-ins in the "remote region" of Northern Iredell, and I believe the cards and fliers were distributed as a reaction and also to notify people of the crimes and to be on guard. P.S. referring to us here who grow your food, and supply your milk and eggs as the "remote region" while implying that we couldn't possibly need extra law enforcement of our own seems arrogant. Could it be possible that a separate grant was obtained for our region, or that the department was trying to save tax money by reusing the cards with all the same info on them instead of re-printing some new ones just to satisfy someone's need for supposed controversy?
I'm a Gatton Report fan, but go see the evidence already. Sometimes reporters do have to go to the source and take advantage of the opportunities they have to clear something up and then REPORT that back to the people. Your open government stance is wonderful, but it doesn't always work out that way.
You want answers, GO get them, don't wait on it to be delivered to you.

I got the opportunity to see both the videos and the documentation (as well as Cthe real apt. Miller). There is no way the guy in the WSOC video is Capt. Miller. The video from the Mooresville office and the papertrail trump all the rumors.
If anyone in Statesville, Troutman or the Southorn End of the County doubts the allegations against Phil Redmond on this blog I ask that you go to any establishment in the North End ( with the exception of the Burger Barn ) and question 10-20 random people for their response, It might surprise you.

Redini strikes again. If these vidoes are so convincing why aren't they being posted publically. Why does Phillip Redmond feel the need to maintain control while people come to him to see the so called proof. I thought the Sheriff was a position of public service and that meant that the sheriff is to do what he can to help the public in anyway. Post the videos on your website, on your FaceBook page or spin out a copy in your wonderful enhancement room and send it to Jamie and let her post it on here. That would be less work and less time consuming thaen making schedules for someone to be there to show this information to people one at a time. There is obviously somting not up to par with the "evidence" that he feels he must maintain control. Not everybody is impressed with Phillip the Great and his peep show.

How about if Phil makes a public statement, not an issued statement and/or shows the video. That would be simpler. Where is the Burger Barn? Probably not as close as my computer. The Sheriffs office isn't as close as my computer. Instead of a citizen using their gas and time, how about the Sheriff using county equipment and time to just once post a video that he expects eveyone to drive one at a time to see. Matter solved. Unless of course it is an altered video or a different video than the one posted on the blog.
What I find ironic is that the only documentation which has been made available comes from the sheriff. Where's all the "proof" from the rest of you? Send it to Jamie and let her post it. Or post it yourselves on your own website. Do something other than hide behind "I'm too scared to do anything"

This whole thing is a result of that probation officer in mooresville (Daniel Cooke). She is the one that "says" "she" can identify both in the video. She went to lincoln pd to do so. She has a personal vandetta against both miller's. She has made numerous comments to people that is now in the process of bitting her in the ass. She was denyed a job with iredell county, and her "husband" was released from iredell prior to becoming employeed with MPD. PS. She talked to loud where there was a video at the Mooresville courthouse. Give it a few weeks, ALOT of people are going to be suprised.

Anonymous said... The DA is always unable to comment for professional reasons. That is part of what gives the appearance that nothing is going on. Yes it is election year, but these issues have been around for years. The Lincolnton incident is the first thing that got out from under them before they could squash it.
The posts are not B.S. at least the ones that I have seen. The stolen guns, failed drug tests, open affairs by the top brass, dropped charges, the list goes way past that. There are things needing to come out that haven't even been mentioned on here yet.
There are many good people at the ICSO that are working under the same conditions that Crone ran the department under only worse. People have tried to report things before and they got threatened, reprimanded, demoted or fired. On the other hand there are those in the inner circle that do as they please even it it involves breaking the law.
It is one of the most demoralizing situations that you can imagine. However you have to choose between keeping your mouth shut and keeping a job.
Information of activities gets around because everybody trusts somebody. People close to the source have people they trust and so on. Those who have been entrusted don't give their source away so by the time it gets to someone who wants to report it, there is no solid proof. You know it happened and you can see evidence of it, but it is not enough.
In the case where the guns were taken, everyone heard about it and that individual went from Detective to working in the jail until things cooled off. Obviously it was true as the information lined up with what was visible. He was permintted to keep his car and was moved back out into various othe positions over time. But he is still there. This same person was made a detective after completing Basic law Enforcement Training. ICSO plicy says that the requirements for being a detective are 3-5 years road experience which is a good policy. Imagine how demoralizing it was for seasoned officers who wanted that promotion and position but then had to watch it get handed to someone with no experience. Then to add insult to injury he gets to keep a job after stealing a gun.
Another Detective was moved to the jail after he had reportedly harrassed a victim that he was supposed to be helping. If it isn't true then why did he get placed in the jail. They tried moving him back out to the road and the wrong person found out and he was placed back in the jail. I don't think this was due to rumors.
These are just a couple of examples. Can you imagine working under these conditions? We have some really dedicated officers here who are willing to deal with the stress on the street and get beat around at the office as well.
I hope to see them get the help that they need. They are not in a position to help themselves. You can see with the video incident that even tape recorded and publically shown documentation is not enough. We need help in demanding investigations into the conduct outlined here. We all want to continue to serve the public and could do so much better if everything was as it should be.
The continuation of these activities over the years is proof of what happens when you wait on the state to do something.

I'll bet Blocker will know what is going on. Phil Redmond has obviously developed memory loss or severe nearsightedness in his golden years. I didn't know about that or this, I don't know anything. That is so he can't get sued or indicted when it all comes down.

The video appears to be the same video -- no alterations or changes were evident -- no enhancement had taken place. The video from the Mooresville office was quite clear.
Honestly, once I walked up the hallway and saw Capt. Miller I was baffled as to how anyone could think he is the 2nd person in the video. To me, there is no resemblance at all. Mind you, I just turned 40 -- so my eyesight might not be that good :-)
Mr. Green, thank you for your reply. There are many who have worked with and known Capt Miller for a long time and they said they know it was Harold beyond a shadow of a doubt. I haven't seen the original so I can't say. Based on the tape shown here I would say that I can be 80% sure that it is him, which is why I want to see the clearer version. Features, glasses, mustache and mannerisms all give the appearance that it is Harold Miller. Did he have glasses and a mustache when you saw him today? I just want the clear video posted online and can't see any good reason why the Sheriff would deny that, especially if it clears Harold of any wrong doing.
Why would he release it no matter what he does he will be bashed, I believe D. Collins or his wife has a great copy, at least that is what they are telling. The Sheriff has proven it his not Miller, I don't believe he would risk the lawsuit since maybe Lincolnton PD named the wrong person, at it is an on going case. I wouldn't consider this rumor spreading. There is too much information here with too many details. It would help if this video was posted publically so it could be cleared up. That is what really started making me consider all of the other allegations.

Sound like what we have been reading on here from people who know? Also it took a six year investigation. I am sure that at no point could you "google" the sheriffs name and come up with proof as some have claimed they tried here.

Within the last year, one of Phil's officers was fired for hearsay. The Sheriff and Harold were at the helm of that ship too. I am told that my fellow officer was not allowed to defend himself or have his supervisor present while in Redmonds kangaroo court. According to him he was suspended indefinately and told if he spoke to ANYONE other than his wife about the incident he would be charged with interfereing with an investigation. (Same use of terminology there. Interesting). Anyway he went home, thought it over and resigned.
He then tried to get unemployment until he was hired elsewhere and was denied. He appealed his case and told the investigating person that they needed to look into it better. He told him it was a hostile work environment. The decision was overturned and he is now receiving unemployment and has a document from Employment Security stating that he did nothing wrong and the Sheriffs office was at fault. So the Sheriff CAN fire someone based on hearsay, but like many of the other things he has done, it isn't very smart. I really don't think he has paid attention to how many people he has stepped on over the years but is probably starting to realize now.

1. The dumba** sheriff got 6 years: 1 year for one charge and 5 years for the 2nd charge (to be served consecutively) -- 5+1=6 (unless you're the person above who somehow came up with 5)
2. The charges were for lying to a grand jury and misusing federal funds.
3. There is no mention of selling cable cards -- though one of the articles does indicate they stole satellite signals.

At this point Redmonds defender came unglued and made extensive use of the !!!! key and the cap button.
Redmonds team I suppose in defense of the Miller situation pointed out that (Redmond) ..."cant just start firing people on hear say." After which a post detailing an indefinate suspension was detailed on post 12:17 A.M. It was pointed out that Harold Miller ramrodded that whole deal.
Redmonds supporters also have also pointed out in the past that they have "Googled" Redmond and corruption and didn't have any luck finding anything. A post was made at 10:13 detailing a 6 year investigation on a NC Sheriff by the Feds and the State that ended in 2008. I am certain that at no point were you able to "Google" corruption in Robeson County and get search results.
We are also waiting on Mr. Green to tell us if the Harold Miller he saw had glasses and stache.

I also googled info on Maynor and Robeson County Sheriff's Department and founds likes of stuff printed in newspapers prior to the investigation. I'm not a Redmond supporter, a Blocker supporter, or a Nicholson supporter. I haven't made my mind up as to who I will vote for. My only reason for posting is to share the facts as I know them. I'm just glad to know that Jamie is alive, well and still breaking the rules. Last I heard he had been diagnosed with brain cancer. I think this diagnosis was made right before some of his other charges a while back. I remember people saying he wasn't going to seek treatment for his brain cancer. Mr. Green, there were actually several other time that someone psoted the Google search. You were only one. I was just trying to make a point that while something is in the true investigative stage there is no information about that investigation other than what is leaked out.
Once it gets out that things are being looked into, it gives the suspects time to cover up their trail. Kind of like what could have happened with the video had it not been shown on WSOC.

Maybe the bondsman bonded Jamie out because he knew Jamie's father was Cpt. Harold Miller and thought Jamie would never skip bail knowing how diligent his father and the Iredell County Sheriff's department would be in tracking him down if he did. Look, the whole point of this is that Jamie has serious felonies pending that he has skipped bond on. The more this goes on the more things I have heard. Someone has told me about a man from troutman who was found with marijuana plants. He supposedly told the officers that he called the sheriff and they couldn't arrest him. I was told this man was never charged and that someone with the same name was listed in the record and landmark as a campaign contributor to the sheriff. This was told to be someone who owns a business. It concerns me to keep hearing things like this. If this is true it is not right.
I need to say that it may have only been one plant. It sounded like more the way it was told, but I am not sure.

Here is some info for you "Victor Johnson". In a recent superviser meeting Chief Deputy Rick Dowdle reportedly told those at the meeting that he was on the clock and was only going to say this once. Everybody needed to remember who gave them a job over the last several years and who fed their family. He also said that there would be no retaliation for any comments made during the election.

Since you apparently know all about his life you tell us just how many felonies it is and what they are for. Also, whether or not Jamie Miller is the man in the vidio( which I have been told by ones that know him well it is ,and the news identified him as such) the fact remains he is a wanted man , you cannot change this. So your going to sue everyone because he is a wanted man. I just saw Jamie at What-a-burger in Mooresville about 1:30 today. It really looks like he is hiding. If a bondsman, and the local police are looking for him "so" hard, it looks to me like he would be an easy catch. All of this is a joke. I can't believe you people have nothing better to do with your time, then post lies on this "what a joke" blog that Ms. "want a be" reporter Jamie Gatton has.
Not sure I want a Sheriff that eats sh%t at any meal...just saying.
I bet that 99% of the ones posting on this blog, don't know any of the people that are in question here. It sounds to me like a bunch of unemployed people with to much time on their hands. Wake up, cancel your welfare checks, and get a job. I happen to know there is a certain Lincolnton police officer that lives VERY close to Harold, (i won't say HER name)who has been taking pictures of the people coming in and out of Harold driveway, trying to get WSOC 9 to buy them and do a report. Now this to me is a sick person. From what i understand her husband all but got is ass stomped when he made a comment to harold about all of this. Just another perfect example of a nose-e-e-e-e- busy-body, that wants what she can't have, and will go to great lenghts,even lies, to try an achive that. Maybe her husband being arrested for child porn, or him being a drunk,and pothead should be the next topic on this site.
Now why would a Lincolnton PD officer have any interest in this whole thing? It has already been verified by the Redmond defense team that everything about Lincolnton and Zaxbys is a lie. According to them, Linconlton is in line for a lawsuit and that is why they won't release the video.
And you are also saying that Harlod, a top law enforcement officer in Iredell County all but stomped someone's ass when someone mentioned this to him. Keep testifying on their behalf.
And what photos could someone have that could be of any value? Harold has done nothing wrong. And what could there be to report on?
