Sheriff candidates tackle issues at forum

The performance of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office grunt work is stellar. The top brass could use some polishing.

More specifically, they should work on getting along better with others.

That was a common theme of Tuesday’s forum for the four sheriff candidates – two Republicans and two Democrats – who are seeking to oust incumbent Phil Redmond this November.

Mark Nicholson and Phil Blocker will vie for the Republican nomination against Redmond in the May 4 primary. The highest vote-getter will square-off in November with the Democratic primary winner, Jeff Cheek or Bill Stamey. A second primary would be necessary if the highest vote-getter in the May 4 primary does not secure 40 percent of the vote, said Jeff Corbett, who moderated Tuesday’s forum in Barium Springs.

At the heart of Tuesday’s forum was the Iredell County Sheriff Office’s (ICSO) relationship with other members of the law enforcement community; all the candidates – with the exception of Redmond – said the relationships are strained.

“Unfortunately right now, the relationship” between the ICSO and other agencies “is not too good,” said Stamey.

Stated Cheek: “There is no relationship between the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department and local law enforcement in Iredell County. Those ties have been severed, and it will take a tremendous amount of work to restore those relationships.”

Nicholson, a detective with the ICSO, said that the relationship between the sheriff’s office and other agencies “is strained at best.” He said while working cases and talking with detectives from other agencies, the “common theme” he hears is that “they wish there was some better cooperation between” their respective agencies and the ICSO.

Blocker said he believes communication between “the troops on the ground is pretty good” but that “the further up you get, the less the communication between the agencies.”

Redmond disagreed, however, saying while communication “can always improve,” he has established three joint task forces on drugs, gangs and sex offenders with the Statesville Police Department and holds monthly meetings “to interact” with the chiefs of police for Statesville, Troutman and Mooresville. “The higher up you go, we have a good working relationship,” he said. “I think the chief of police would back that up.”

Why should you vote for him?

Throughout the forum, the candidates’ comments were peppered with reasons they believe they are the better man for the job.

When asked specifically why he’s running for sheriff and why someone should vote for him, Redmond responded: “I’ve been sheriff for the past 16 years, and I think Iredell County deserves a progressive, forward-thinking sheriff who has the ability and the experience to meet the challenges that’s facing law enforcement today and facing Iredell County.

“I didn’t have any illusions when I ran for sheriff of what the job consists of,” Redmond said earlier in the forum. “I knew that I’d have to have a vision, an agenda, a strategy to make Iredell County a safer place for you to live, work and raise a family. I also knew I’d have to have short-term goals and long-term goals and I’d have to have a plan. I had to have a management team in place that had the same commitment and dedication that I had to the citizens of the county. I’ve got the management team in place now. It’s a good team.”

Stamey kept his response short: “The desire has always been in me to be in law enforcement. I’ve served in every each capacity except sheriff, which I really want to be. I have the experience, the ability, the training and the desire.”

Cheek said being sheriff “has been a goal of mine for 25 years at least.”

“I feel the sheriff needs to be approachable, available and reach out to the community and be available to them to express their needs, be present, be visible,” said Cheek. “And I am all that. I have the abilities to reach out to various agencies and people in the community to bring this community together to work for a common goal, and that is to make Iredell County a good place and a safe place to live.

“We are at a crossroads in this sheriff’s election,” said Cheek, “and we, the voters, are going to have some serious decisions to make in May and November.”

Said Blocker: “The reason I want to be sheriff is to get all the agencies and the resources together to communicate with one another. I know through my experience, training and leadership classes that it can be done. It’s very simple. Communication is so powerful. By talking with someone or smiling at someone, it tells you something.”

Working together, Blocker said, “is just so easy to do. All you have to do is put an effort forward, and it can be done. We’re all cops. We all want to catch the bad guy. That’s what we do. And working together to catch more bad guys is better.”

Nicholson said he wants to be sheriff because “I’ve always enjoyed helping people.”

He said “there’s so much good that can be done” through the sheriff’s department. But mistakes are currently being made, he said: “I know where the mistakes are being made, but more importantly, I know how to fix them.”

In his introductory comments, Nicholson said: “The sheriff has to have integrity and honesty. He has to be fair. He also has to know that the law applies equally to everyone. The sheriff has to be willing to get out and work with his people and be in the field with them. He also has to get along with other agencies in the county and work with them.”

Nicholson said he has all the traits that a good sheriff needs, including the ability to get along with other agencies. “I’ve got a good working relationship with Mooresville, Troutman, Statesville, and the Highway Patrol,” he said.

Measuring success

Blocker said if elected sheriff, he would measure his own success by how safe people feel in the community. Opening the door for citizens and law-enforcement agencies to communicate with one another, Blocker said, “is crucial.”

Redmond said: “If I made Iredell County a safer place to live, work and raise a family, I feel like I’ve been successful.” He cited his accomplishments as sheriff and his quality staff. “If I left now, I’d be satisfied,” he said.

Stamey said he would measure his success by knowing that all citizens feel safe in their own homes and that employees of the ICSO are enjoying their jobs.

Nicholson would measure his own success by fewer parents having children experimenting with or using drugs. He mentioned his three children and the stories they told about drug-use in their schools. Also, Nicholson said: “People talk about the ‘known drug houses’" in Iredell County. "There’s no excuse in there ever being a 'known drug house' in Iredell County," Nicholson said. "If it’s known, it needs to be corrected. The unknowns, you need to find.”

Cheek said there are a number of ways a sheriff could measure his success at the end of the term; for instance, he said, by reducing the crime rate and break-ins and increasing drug arrests. However, he said, “Increased drug arrests may mean you have more of a drug problem than you had when you started.”

Cheek said he would like to be remembered as “the individual who was available and approachable and I enforced the law to everyone equally.

“You’re only as good as the legacy that you leave behind," he said. "I would want to be known as the sheriff of the people of Iredell County.”

Top Crimes

The candidates were asked their opinion of the two top crime problems in Iredell and how they would fight to resolve one of those problems.

Nicholson, Cheek and Blocker all agreed that drugs and gangs were the top two crime problems in Iredell County, while Redmond and Stamey cited drugs and break-ins.

Nicholson said eradicating drugs from schools is his passion. He pointed out, again, that the ICSO must establish strong, cooperative relationships with other law enforcement agencies and school officials/staff to curb the problem. “Kids intermingle between schools on weekends and holidays,” which demands a county-wide approach to fighting the drug problem, Nicholson said.

He pointed out that most drug addictions begin in high school and that drugs supply gangs with money, which makes gangs and addictions grow. “There’s nothing we can do as important as getting drugs out of schools.”

Cheek said gangs “are the problem of the future.” He said local law enforcement is already working on the drug problem and “may or may not be able to be more aggressive” on that. Citing the Statesville Police Department’s gang initiative program, Cheek said it is a proven fact that “to combat gangs, you have to be very proactive.

“You may not stop (the gangs),” he said, “but if nothing else, you relocate them.”

Blocker said drugs and gangs “are generally one in the same.” He said a strong narcotics unit and a focus on “targeting repeat offenders” will help with the problem. Blocker also said he would start a citizen review board to help foster communication between police and citizens, which would help to fight crime.

Law-enforcement agencies “must work together to combat this problem,” Blocker added.

Redmond said experts state that drugs are behind 70-80 percent of all break-ins and that “Iredell County has more drugs in federal court than all the 31 western counties combined.”

He said the ICSO has “a very good relationship” with the Iredell County Schools. “We’ve got gang teaching going on the school system, we’ve got DARE going on in the school system, and so the gangs sound good, but the major problem is drugs and break-ins,” Redmond said.

Stamey said he believes an aggressive crime-prevention program and more community policing would help by building up citizens’ trust in law enforcement officers. That, in turn, would inspire more citizens to work together with police to fight crime, Stamey said.

Current jail conditions and priority improvements

All the candidates talked of overcrowding.

Redmond said he “made a deal with the State of North Carolina a couple years ago” to lease the prison camp for $1 a year. He said he is currently negotiating with the Department of Corrections “to secure the rest of the location that they’ve moved out of.” Redmond said “there are two large buildings there,” and while it could take “a year or two to work out,” he could bring in portable cell blocks to add to the available facilities.

Stamey said he hasn’t been in the jail in a while. He said because of current economic times, the county likely would not fork over money to increase jail capacity, “so I think we’re going to have to rely on the state, and I have to commend the sheriff for that,” he said.

Nicholson said the current jail was built too small. “It should have been built with a lot more beds in it,” he said. “I think the trends were clear at the time that the inmate capacities would rise far beyond its capabilities.

“The old prison is an excellent way to save money to try to house some of these inmates,” Nicholson said, “but I’m afraid sometime in the near future, it’s not going to be enough.” He said the county will likely have to consider “building on to the existing jail or possibly building a new site.”

Cheek said the jail is not only overcrowded but “antiquated.” While overcrowding is a problem, he said he is very concerned about staffing at the jail. He said the county needs to recruit specialized, professional staff which will help with turnover.

Blocker said he has not been to the county jail. To combat overcrowding, however, he said he would review the people who are in jail – and why they’re there. “I’ve seen folks who have been locked up in jail for a worthless check who just couldn’t make their bond,” Blocker said.

“Of course I would not release dangerous individuals,” but if someone who is locked up is “not a threat to the community,” he said, “maybe we could work with the DA’s office and the judges on releasing them.” Blocker also said that the “banding bracelets that track offenders” would be another option he would consider.

Good job Jamie. I think you gave a fair and accurate overall view of the forum.

Anonymous said...

wow we are going to have a poll on a blog that should read something like bashredmond.com instead of thegattonreport.com

should be interesting to see how this turns out

Anonymous said...

I personally witnessed the forum and have no stake in it either way. Redmond and Cheek were heads and shoulders above the other candidates. Redmond was a little nervous at first, but worked his way into the fray. His answers were well prepared and he came across as knowing what he was talking about. Cheek seemed polished and was apparently misinfomed about relationships between agencies. I question his response about consolidating resources with other agencies. That sure sounded like someone promoting county police. That scares the hell out of me. I like having multiple agencies in the county. It'll be Redmond and Cheek in November. I'm voting for the Republican, because there ain't non way I'm pulling the blue lever in the general election.

Anonymous said...

Also the Sheriff is already using the ankle braclets to release non violent offenders

7:24 you did good until you said you have no stake in this either way. Couldn't make it through the first sentence without a lie. You have a large stake in this. You put all your eggs in Redmond's basket and you can't let him trip.

Just because you keep repeating the same mantra doesn't make it so. Redmond's great, Redmond's good...

Bottom line, Redmond sucked before the forum he sucked during the forum and he will continue to suck in the future unless he does a 360 and gets his heart and mind in a better place.

No quit posting and start voting multiple times on the poll like you idiots always do so you can say, "Look! Redmonds winning! Everybody...we told you!"

You are starting to bore the hell out of me.

Be careful of the toes you step on today they may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tommorrow.

Jamie... Redmond and the Redidiots keep saying that there is good communication between departments.

Four candidates said that there is little or no communication.

Could you please call or email Robbins, Anderson and Selves and ask them. I think Redmond claimed they met once a month?

Time for Redmond and the redidiots to go DOWN.

I have a few comments (after watching the video completly through two times). I understand that some people are better speakers than others, however I was looking for content in their answers. I feel like there are only two real candidates. Nicholson and Cheek. They both are in tune to the problems that face the County and they are the only two that seem to understand exactly what the job consists of. It is obvious that Redmond is so happy with what he has done, he really don't see a need for any changes. Poor ol Bill Stamey is stuck in the '70s wanting to "start" community policing. Nicholson and Cheek both had it on the ball. Cheek's education seems to outshine Nicholson (a little). Phil Blocker simply ain't got a clue. He don't even know what a Sheriff is supposed to do. He said he has been in law enforcement for 24 yrs and has been on a drug task force. But listen closely to what else he said. "he has never been inside the jail". WHAT IN THE WORLD? I know that the Police Chief (Puett) had put Blocker on the drug task force but then removed him from it after he had made NO ARRESTS for over 11 months. Nothing, nada not even a joint. As for all the departments working together, They never have and I don't see that changing. Not only are there "power issues" amoung the top brass, you have to consider the Board members of each municipality can't get along either. Sometimes they are the ones placing the restrictions on the Department Heads. Enough said...get out and vote

There are major difference between Statesville Pd and the Sheriffs office in personnel and policies. 10:36 stated that it is among brass but it is also in the lower ranks. The city is a totally different operation and attitude than the S.O.

However, if there is anyone who can improve the working relationships between those two departments, it is Nicholson.

He just has a natural ability to finding solutions and making things work. He is a peacemaker and hands on person who will jump in and lead by example.

Anonymous said...

When is the last time that Redmond visited a jail shift, got a cup of coffee and asked how things are going? I assure you that is Nicholson if given the chnace to serve as Sheriff you will see him and his upper men dropping by the jail, riding with officers, going along on serious search warrants and showing up randomly on calls because they were in the area.

The only way you can effectively run a department is to be involved with the working people and hear what problems they are having. That is also the only way to have good morale.

Mark will also be available to meet with the public and will be out talking to people in the community on his own. He won't wait until six months before election to show up and act like he cares. When election time comes around again, you will already know Mark or know about Mark from someone who met him. He won't need to drop his duties to run out and campaign. And, he won't have to have a little pack of yappy dogs out doing dirty tricks to get him votes. Election time will just be another day. If he has done his job right, he won't have to campaign other than to make it clear he wants to remain Sheriff. .

The vehicles that Redmond bought from Randy marion for an extra (I believe) $5000 each because he had to have them right away are still sitting outside at the County Garage. Drive by and see for yourself.

Another thing, he claims we have to have those big gas sucking vehicle because of people working traffic. Statesville PD works traffic and I don't see them driving SUV's. I wonder how they get by.

Ask Phil why Chief Deputy Rick Dowdle is driving around in a small car right now. (Only until after election) It is a little black four door Pontiac or something. It's not what you do, it's what people think you do..right Phil?

I can see having some 4-wheel drive SUV's available for transporting people and answering calls in bad winter weather, that has always been an issue.

And we could use some more people, but there are several high paying positions right now that are used to politic for the Sheriff and nothing else. The entire place is a political machine where there are different rules for different officers and different laws different for citizens.

Mark Nicholson has worked at the Iredell County Sherifs office for almost 19 years. As he said, he knows where mistakes are being made and he knows how to fix them.

Time for improvement and Mark will make those improvements using his experience and by listening to the perspective of employees and citizens on what needs to be done.

Mark Nicholson is the man for the job if you want it done right. He doesn't have any catching up to do, he is rready to step in and make the improvements needed to make the Sheriffs Office a great place to work and Iredell County a better place to live.

It bothers me that I live in the town or mooresville and pay extra taxes for services such as a police department. For all of the candidates with the exception of Redmond to call for police department to be out patrolling in the county sounds like robbery. I pay taxes to the city and deserve the service. I'm sure not going to vote for someone who doesn't care about my tax dollars!

Looks like it will be Redmond for me. I'm tired of officials who don't care about the taxes I pay!

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone is calling for your police dept. to be out patrolling in the county, but if the police person lives outside your town, and happens to observe something on his or her way to or from work, it would be nice if they could have the authority to do something about it. As far as I'm concerned being a LEO is like being in the service, you're on duty 24/7. Personally I would feel better if it were state wide. If you think Redmond is worried about your tax dollars then I have a bridge that I need to sell.

Anonymous said...

Hey, just read where Redmond said there is "DARE" program in our schools. Shows just how up to date he is. That program is gone but replaced with the GREAT program which is very similar. Good job Redmond, you always know what goes on in your department!!

Anonymous said...

Noticed Redmond was trailing Blocker and Nicholson in the poll until business hours today. I guess the "you better get on your computors, go on the Gatton Report, and vote for Phil" memo got out.

Anonymous said...

one thing to say to all you haters, 20000 plus votes last election. Thats alot of support. If you want to see it just get in your car and ride around and see all the redmond signs in peoples yards not at intersections.. Thanks come again

Anonymous said...

That reminds me of a nasty rumor I heard about the chief deputy. I heard he told everyone that they work for Phil Redmond and need to support him for the election when on duty.

Anonymous said...

Nice try but I Redmond was never trailing blocker. It is just natural that Nicholson would have taken the early lead, because his supporters have been on here the most. They probably started bragging about being up again in the polls like last time! I think Nicholson lost that one too, but we can't see it anymore because his support took the page down.

Was told by someone that they were out eating or something and overheard the chief deputy stay that something had to be done about the big signs Mark Nicholson had. Be interesting to see if any of them get accidentally distroyed before May 4th.

Its kinda hard to say Redmond hasnt been successful

I thought the sheriff's office and the local departments had mutual aid agreements in place. It would appear that if anyone needed to stop someone outside their jurisdiction, all they would have to do is call it in and be requested to make the stop. Oh, by the way, that's the way it's done in the other 99 counties in North Carolina. If countywide jurisdiction is such a good idea, why did the state legislature put the jurisdiction back like it is in every other county. I guess some people must have got their feelings hurt when they lost.

Anonymous said...

good post 7:57

If city officer's came in the county, if you has a complaint who do you call the city would not care because the county cant vote against them....so that leaves the Sheriff who has no control over the city officers.....kinda like taxes with no represenation......also Iredell has Mutual aid agreements with all the city departments...plus three task forces with the cities.........Cheek forgot that

The current Chief deputy never worked the road, was never in narcotics, never a detective, never anything but an ass kisser and the brother of an elected official.

We need a Sheriff who doesn't worship the man in the mirror.

All of your other posts are just the usual pointless chatter designed to distract from the information being posted here. Wouldn't want to give anyone a chance to think about what is being said, would we?

So tell us what experience does the Cheif Deputy have? Redmond and his band of flying monkeys keep claiming Nicholson for no experience. If Redmond dies tonight who becomes Sheriff? Ricky Doodle would be in line I believe. It may have to be appointed. Surely for all that is holy in this world, he wouldn't be, but Redmond picked Doodle to be the next in charge.

Has Doodle ever arrested ANYONE? I'm not counting criminal summons while he was over the jail and he had others to serve them and he signed them off.

What EXPERIENCE does Doodle have? Bring it on you bunch of fools.

Seventeen days to go...LET"S ROCK!

Anonymous said...

Doodle's experience;

Jailer

In charge of the jail

Chief Deputy...It pays to be a puppet!

Who has he investigated? No one. Who has he arrested? No one.

Wait that may not be true. He was possibly in on the Adams (coverup) investigation. There must be some crimes being committed on Wallace Springs Rd. Maybe he is investigating something out there. Must be top secret. Maybe the missing money from the evidence room is beuing hid out there and he is trying to find it. Nope couldn't be that, Redmond's eveidence room is secure. Saw it in an article awhile back where he used Crone as a steeping stone to try to look good.

Professional politician. It's not what you do it's what people think you do.

Doodle's experience consists of being Redmond's shadow. THAT is the kind of experience that impresses Redmond. Head lapdog.

If Redmond died tonight the Chief Deputy would run things until the Republican Party would meet to select a replacement.

Remember when Leroy Reavis died in office Redmond the Chief Deputy acted as Sheriff until the Republican Party nominated J.D. Benfield to the County Commissioners as Sheriff for the remainder of the term.

Anonymous said...

I would hope they would move quickly on appointing someone else.

Interesting point though...

"when Leroy Reavis died in office Redmond the Chief Deputy acted as Sheriff until the Republican Party nominated J.D. Benfield"

Redmond claims the acting as Sheriff after Leroy's death. He doesn't mention that he wasn't considered worthy of completing out leroy's term.

Anonymous said...

If I'm not mistaking, Rick Dowdle oversaw the jail operations, which is a major part of the sheriff's office. I know he has no experience in the investigative or patrol divisions, but he has overseen the sheriff's office budget for some time and apparently is doing a reasonable job. It doesn't appear that the sky is falling. Beside, Redmond still looks to be in pretty good health. He might live to be a hundred and even though public speaking does not appear to be his forte, based on me seeing the video of the forum, he held up well. He might serve as sheriff for the next 28 years and can retire when he's in his late 90's. If he doesn't win, I'm voting for Cheek.

Anonymous said...

Another Redmond defense team post. You are so freaking obvious. You dodged the whole point of no experience by saying the sky isn't falling, threw in a distraction and a damage contro by saying that public speaking isn't Redmond's forte and summed it up by trying to get people to vote for Cheek if they aren't voting for Redmond.

I hope you aren't part of his defense in Federal Court, not that he would ever be in federal court. Don't know why I said that. Strike that from the record since I object to it myself. I instruct the citizens to disregard that comment.

The Statesville R&L had an article about the polls being empty. One of the posts commented that there is no reason to vote due to nobody to vote for. The following post was made and I thought it should be included here? Everyone keeps asking for Dyno, I assume this is who you were asking for;

I agree that the polls are probably empty because of apathy that has been brought about by lack of people to vote for. I include myself in that group.

This time we have someone to vote in as Sheriff who is not a politician but a great person and hard working down to earth leader... Mark Nicholson.

You can check out his website, but I would rather you come and eat a free burger and hotdog and meet him yourself. Ask him ANYTHING you want to ask him, one on one in person.

Bring your family... Today at the Redlight Cafe in Troutman from 12 until 3. Tell them Dynamite sent you!

(Neil H, Rick E, Joel H, Todd C and Ben J you are welcome as well. This event is for free thinkers, no Koolaid allowed.)

I have noticed a recurring theme from the Redmond Camp about our Sheriff making this such a safe county, I guess if we could, we would ask the Barkers and the Powells about how safe it is here. I don't understand how we can score so big on the interstates but can't shut down crack houses or liquor houses. I'm also still waiting on an explanation of procedures and policies concerning deputy's involement of chases that end tragically. The last one was a hero, the ond before was fired. Which way is the wind blowing today?

Quit talking about for real. Its a waste of time, we went through this in 2006 with all these lies. Redmond still got over 20000 votes. I personally can say he deserves to be in office. If it aint broke, dont fix it. And the last time we were promised change by an man named obama, look where it took us.

Anonymous said...

Actually we didn't go through this in 2006 because there wasn't the outlet for it.

Also, Redmoan got 20,427 votes.

A candidate that hardly anyone knew, woith no law enforcement experience and running a campaign with just his famile got 4,830 votes. Hardly anything to brag abot.

Since then Redmoan has used more people, cheated more people, threatened more people etc.

This is a different time with several well qualified candidates. None of whom are even slightly comaparable to Obama.

Anonymous said...

Seen on the R&L...

Redmond showed his true colors at the Union Grove parade Saturday.

First of all, he didn't line up with everyone else in the parking lot, no big deal since we are used to him dodging everyone.

Next the colors start out leading the parade. They are supposed to be followed by the Grand marshal. This year the grand marshal was Harper Vanhoy a very well respected and admired older gentleman.

Before the grand marshal vehicle could pull in behind the colors, guess who zips in front in his spot...you guessed it; Redmond in his $16,000 golf cart.

Since he was driving he can't blame it anyone else. And, as many parades as he has been in, he can't say he didn't know.

That's how you think when you live your life to be in the spotlight. Actually it is what people see you do, not what they think you do. More votes lost.

Anonymous said...

are you kidding?

In most parades that I have seen the Sheriff or some other official is asked to lead the parade. I will bet money that the Union Grove parade is no different.

I am also willing to bet money that the person who type that is the same person who copied and pasted it to this site.

Anonymous said...

Check with the Union grove Ruritan Club if you want to know the parade line up. I am hoping they will write a letter to the editor.

Hey I bet you can get Ron Wyatt's parents to do it! Didn't they just help him with his event at the Red Light Cafe? (that's Ron's sister's place) It's no secret that Mark also has crazy Ron Duck Wyatt helping him with his election. Just do some fact checking on him!

Anonymous said...

Since Mark has so many people on this site speaking on his behalf, will someone tell me who he is going to appoint to Chief Deputy? I’ve also been waiting for him to post some more information on what he knows about the budget? It has been saying for months that he will be posting more info on that! He keeps saying that it is going to shrink, but who doesn’t know that?

I believe that Nicholson talks about how he won’t waste tax dollars etc. How is he going to explain why the tax dollars collected from people in Statesville, Mooresville, and Troutman are going to be used to fund this county wide police force that he want to use. The people pay extra money for those services, and I sure don’t want to share them with people who don’t pay for them! (this goes for Blocker and Cheek as well)

Blah blah blah blah. The days are ticking by. You better get out and get Redmoan some votes back. He has pissed a lot of people off.

Ron Wyatt....seems like I remember something about that name.

Oh yeah! That is the guy that got his house searched by Redmond's people when they found out that he was going to run for Sheriff!

I knew that sounded familiar. Redmond has a tractor trailer load of dirty tricks. No telling what else he will do in the next 15 days. Desperation is a terrible thing. Everyone who knows him well knows to expect it and they are. Watch and see.

One thing is for sure, it will all backfire just like everything else has done.

Anonymous said...

I have a feeling about who Nicholson won't appoint as his chief deputy. I don't believe it will be Tricky Ricky who's only claim to fame is, My wife let me back in the house.

That wasn’t even the question! It sure is interesting about every time that Nicholson’s campaign is asked a question they try to turn it around and attack Redmond or someone in his department. They sure seem to be scared to answer in actual questions.

DAG! asked...

Posted by (Dag1) on 04/19/2010 at 09:58 am.

Dynamite,

I guess my statement about all of the candidates having families wasn’t worth responding to. Maybe you will answer a few of these questions then…..

Who is Mark going to appoint to his Chief Deputy?

What has Mark Learned about the Budget? When will he be sharing that info with people via his website? (It says that he will post my on that subject, but it has been saying that for two months)

I just checked on the facebook page’s again, and it seems that Sheriff Redmond is still way out front as far as supporters go, so what is Mark’s reasoning behind that?

How is he going to explain to city taxpayers about the using of police forces that they pay extra taxes for being used in county wide policing? This provides services to those who didn’t pay for them, and takes away services from people WHO DID!

Anonymous said...

Dynamite replied (Isee where he gets his name!)

Dag1...

Your questions really aren't worth responding to as they aren't questions, but attacks. However I will be glad to respond to inform the public.

Proverbs 13:2… The good man wins his case by careful argument; the evil man only wants to fight.

You pointed out that these people have families. Interesting you should play the family card when you work for and support a man whose first act of Sheriff was to take away the means of provision of fifteen families and then hide for two weeks until things cooled down. Since then he has kept people in constant fear of losing their jobs and means of supporting their families.

What does it matter who the Chief deputy is going to be and who say's that he will even have one? The current Chief deputy is worthless as teats on a boar hog, has no experience at anything except kissing behind. His qualifications stop at being the brother of another elected official. I don't think the man has ever made even one arrest. He has never worked the road, never worked narcotics and never been detective. He is nothing but a poorly groomed lap dog that gets kicked by the Sheriff when he gets mad and then runs back for more. NOBODY in the department respects him, he is a joke. Whoever Mark picks as Chief Deputy will be an incredible improvement.

continued....

Anonymous said...

Posted by (Dynamite) on 04/19/2010 at 11:03 am.

continued...

The budget is such a mess that Mark will have to get in office and see where things are going. The first act in making things right will be an OUTSIDE audit of ALL funds and ALL evidence. Boy, bet you didn't want to hear that!

Right now things are such a mess, that there is no way to answer that question. I have one for you though... we keep hearing that there is no D.A.R.E. program it has been replaced with the G.R.E.A.T. program. Amazingly there was $70,000 allotted in the budget this year for DARE and I believe $6000 worth of DARE t-shirts. According to Redmond at the forum (on tape) we still have a DARE program.

Like I said, outside audit of EVERYTHING. Ya'll better be putting some money back in the kitty and returning stuff to the evidence room between now and then. And yes, I will send a message that the budget page is updated to include this information.

So the Sheriff has a bunch of people who are on his facebook page. Does that mean they will vote for him? How many are there just to see what the idiot is up to? Also Mark's FB page has been up for about 4 months, how long has the Sheriff been accumulating his on county time, which is legal as long as he isn't doing the vote for ne FB page on county time.

You might also notice that there are a bunch of teenagers on there as friends which is a direct reflection of one of the individuals who runs it.

Now about the Statesville PD working the county; Mark never said anything about "county wide policing". He said we will work together and share information. Also, if the Statesville PD or any other agency has officers that are sworn county wide it will save the S.O. money and manpower and also help the city taxpayers.

How you ask? Many times crimes are committed in the city limits by people who live in the county. Investigating officers from the city end up having to get a county officer to accompany them to talk to the suspect. This ties the city officer’s hands and uses manpower from the county that doesn't need to be used. THAT is the purpose of having people sworn in county wide.

Anything else you want to know, just lay it out there. I think it is incredible that Redmond hasn't taken your keyboard and broken it over your head.

Also for FYI somebody has been watching this and posting stuff on the Gatton Report. You can probably expect this post to be the same way.

Keep advertising for Redmond. I love it.

Anonymous said...

You want to make an issue out of who Redmond has as his chief, but say it’s not important who Mark will pick?

Sounds like a bit of a double standard to me!

I have a child in the school system and she went through a DARE program this year, so I’m not sure what people are saying there is no program for?

I don’t know anything about the facebook pages, but I see a lot of signs out in people’s yard for Redmond. I don’t really see the need to change something that is working so well. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it!

Anonymous said...

11:26... That whole post was a wimper if I ever heard one.

By the way, I called one elementary school and they said that nobody from DARE has been there yet this year. I'll get back to you on that. I'm still checking. I noticed that there has been no proof offered that there is a DARE program. This was brought up a week ago.

The only proof we have is Redmond ON TAPE saying that there is one.

I know, I know, tapes don't mean anything. By the time it is over there will be a tape of Redmond at the Mooresville government center at the time that statement was made and someone else will be charged with impersonating Redmond at the forum.

Ya'll are some desperate, ignorant people who have run out of power and support. King Phillip is about to be dethroned.

Anonymous said...

11:26 YOU made the Chief Deputy position an issue, not me. Is that regret I hear?

Take thier keyboards Phil!

Anonymous said...

I see that the Chief Deputy question still has not been answered. Why is it that Nicholson and his people will not answer these questions? People keep saying that Mark Nicholson will answer questions blah blah blah, but I have heard a lot of valid questions that Mark Nicholson has not answered....ummmm somethings wrong with this picture.

Anonymous said...

I just looked at Nicholson’s facebook vs. Phil Redmond’s facebook. I really don’t know how anyone would try to bring up the point that Redmond has a lot of young supporters on his facebook. Wasn’t it Nicholson that had a high school age boy running a page bashing Phil Redmond? I know for a fact that he did. I am also aware that Phil Redmond won the poll that the young man tried running it. Mark and his campaign had to take it down because they couldn’t win the poll. Look at the poll on this site. The Gatton Report has a clear bias towards Phil Redmond, but he is still hanging close on this poll. He is also winning the poll on another site right now. Back to my main point….Nicholson has a lot of high school age people on his page, so I really don’t see what your argument is based on.

I would also like to know who Mark Nicholson is going to put in his top management team?

Anonymous said...

Get in your FOP car, or whatever else yall are driving ride up and down the road, and count the signs in peoples yards. Redmond has way more, dont believe me just ride. Im sick and tired of talking about this on the computer. Its pretty easy to say something behind a keyboard. I was at a local event over the weekend and there was oh about 600 people there who supported redmond. Thats just one stop, compared to the red light cafe what did yall have 50 maybe 60.. Good try this campaign is over. Was over from the day it started. Nicholson should have never gave yall a keyboard or let yall back him if he wanted to stand a chance

The rest of your stuff has been answered repeatedly. Yopu might want to rest your fingers for now.

Anonymous said...

You say that if it is not broken don't fix it. That is so ironic. Looks like Phil has one foot in the grave now. How old is this old man? Are you sure he will live long enough to carry out another term. After all everybody knows that young women will definitely kill an old man.

Anonymous said...

I am a mother of an Elementary student and my understanding is that they took DARE out of the elementary schools. A poster at 11:26 said they have a child in school as well and there is a DARE program. It isn't in my child's school. I also saw where Sheriff Redmond said that there is a DARE program. It is in the article above.
I have heard so much about Sheriff Redmond being dishonest but didn't know how much is true. Now I see where his information is not agreeing with what I know to be true. It concerns me that he would appear to be lying about this and that he would use our children to create a lie to benefit him. I think that other things need to be looked into as well. If he would lie about our children he would lie about anything. I am very uncomfortable having him as our Sheriff.

DT... You asked on another post what I disagreed with you on. Easy, anything you have said that is pro-Redmond. He no longer has any redeeming qualities. The first eight years he was in office, it really wasn't that bad. The next four it got worse and this last four it has become unbearable.

You said people should meet in person. I agree. When Redmond first came into office there was all kinds of talk about the gossip was going to stop and if you were accused of something you had "the right to meet your accuser face to face." That lasted about, well never.

On the contrary, Redmond himself likes to stir things up and see people fight. He himself starts rumors and has others to start rumors. The concept is that if the employees are busy fighting, they aren't watching what you are doing.

If you and others will read back over my posts, you can see the sincerity of my wording and the quality of the information. Of course, those sincere well thought out posts are followed by mindless attacks and provoking that eventually break down any communication to what you saw last night.

That is what they do. They live to discredit the truth and to protect themselves from being exposed.

On the day Phillip Redmond is voted out of office and everyone can freely and openly talk, you will be astounded that the man was allowed to be in office as long as he has.

Fortunately, Redmond only has a small band of followers. The majority of the people here in the Sheriffs office are good people who will be more productive and committed after he is gone.

When he speaks of what "he" has accomplished, he speaks of the specialty groups who are treated very well because they get him press releases. They get his greasy picture in the paper pointing at stuff.

The rest of the department produces as well, but only out of concern for their job. There are many good dedicated officers that love their job but go about it with resentment because of the ways of the current leadership. When Redmond is gone, they will be doing the same good job, but willingly without the resentment of knowing they are making a very bad leader look good.

It is past time for change. Change should have come about eight years ago. I myself will no longer work here if Redmond gets back in. I honestly don't think he stands a chance this time, but I do have plans if he does.

I love working for and serving the citizens of Iredell County but can no longer work under a tyrant who has two sets of rules for employess and two sets of laws for the citizens.

I also cannot work for a man who uses the name of God to promote himself while living a life of immorallity and underhanded self service which is the way of darkness.

I don't know when it will be, but when Phil Redmond is voted out of office, you and everyone else will understand. Until then I have to take peace in knowing that God is in charge and even in Kings and Chronicles he allowed evil rulers to remain in power to serve his purpose. In the end, each one met justice and their actions face to face. That day will come here as well and the truth will be made known.

I don't have faith in the system, but I do have faith that God is in control.

Now…Dynamite

You keep saying that you work at the Sheriff’s Office but how is anyone supposed to know if that is true or not? Should we just take your word for it? I guess it’s kind of like the rest of the rumors you spread on here; we are just supposed to believe you! I for one don’t believe that you work at the sheriff’s office; I might believe that you did and might be a disgruntled ex-employee. It is very clear that you have a political agenda to promote Mark Nicholson as a candidate, and you will stop at nothing to try to make him look good and everyone else look bad. I really don’t commend or condone that specific type of behavior. I have noticed that on any site that I have seen Mark Nicholson supporters do a lot more attacking Phil Redmond than they spend telling us why Mark would be a good Sheriff. You say that people who question Mark’s abilities to be sheriff are attacking him, but they sound like very simple questions to me! I just wonder why no one will answer them! Why don’t you concentrate less on bashing Redmond and more about telling us why Mark would be a good candidate for Iredell County Sheriff? I personally believe that is a much better tactic especially since you cannot prove one single rumor that you have tried to spread.

Go ahead…lets watch the Nicholson camp attack me some more, because after all it seems to be all they know how to do.

Hey is nicholson to the max next tuesday, down there at the red light district. I need a burger and some koolaid.. Foods sorry, heck even the talker cant hardly speak. Well well well well thats his favorite word. Listen dynamite we know your an ex employee and if you are an employee. I feel bad for ya. It takes alot for you to use god in your statements, then judge and be as hatefull as you are. Seems like you mommy and daddy spared the rod, and spoiled the child..

Anonymous said...

I have been reading all of ya'lls BS about Dynamite.
And I will respond in a little shortly.

Anonymous said...

My bad. meant to say, I will respond shortly.

Anonymous said...

"in a little shortly" makes about as much sense as uummm, well, ummm, well!!! dynadud

MAD MAX

Where are you? Did you crawl under a rock and bury your head. You disfunctional MOMMA'S BOY.
Come back so we can POUNCE on your sorry logic.

Anonymous said...

Its cool there all drinking there cup of bs, down at the red light district. Oh just got informed that its a positive that they are ex employees. Its amazing how a little fact searching will come in handy. The world is small, it seems everyone knows everyone. So fromme, wallace, huffstickler, and duck need i say anymore. You people should know why you cant run for sheriff. To many enemies not enough friends

Anonymous said...

here ducky ducky ducky.. Its good feeding the ducks.

Anonymous said...

Iredell county citizens, now you know what kind of people we have in the sheriff Dept.Would you vote for someone that has a few employees like this.

Anonymous said...

8:22.....here's a little fact for ya. Apparently Huffstickler was caught beating up on his other half. Seems that pretty soon he will going to court on the other side of the law. Been made aware that he has a big ol' Nicholson sign in his yard. How's that for honesty, integrity, and all that other shit Nicholson's grandpa told him!!! And that my friend is why Huffy is no longer employed by the sheriff, word is he has been promised a job. Gonna be kinda hard to hire him with a record of domestic violence!!

Anonymous said...

8:47 to correct you ex-employees!

Anonymous said...

8:22

Is that the difference between Huffstickler and Doodle. I heard he beats up and threatens not his wife but his girlfriend. I guess he just hasn't been caught yet that is why he is still working for the Sheriff. It's not what you do but what people think you don't do.

Anonymous said...

Excuse me, I got my times wrong, the message about Doodle and his girlfriend was meant for 8:53.

Anonymous said...

I did see Nicholson letter in the paper....he does great on definitions...........NOW TELL US WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO BETTER, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!what is your qualifications

Anonymous said...

Nicholson is every definition of a good sheriff and Redmond is not, that is good enough for me

Go NICHOLSON

Anonymous said...

Nicholson will be HONEST and apply the rules and laws equal ot all. That is something Sheriff Redmond knows little about or forgot long ago. That will make everything Nicholson does as sheriff better than when Redmond was Sheriff.

MAD MAX said...

Hey 8:13, call me what you want, all I am trying to do is make everyone realize that this mud slinging makes everyone look bad. So why don't you BLOW ME!!!

I will be hiding under your Mammas rock!! (Polesmoker)

MAD MAX said...

I MEANT MOMMA'S (MY MISTAKE FOR ALL THE WEBSTER'S OUT THERE)

Anonymous said...

Ok....you tried to bait me, and I bit...shame on me!!! Ran into Redmond today, and asked him about the fish fry. Apparently, Redmond was shocked to hear that you people would stoop to the level to be upset about something that the Kidds' have done for the community for many years. The Kidds are well respected and invitation is usually by word of mouth. You'd be interested to know that the Sheriff, and his family attend every year (not just election years). They always have gospel singing, and lots of visiting between neighbors.

Anonymous said...

WOW!! reading what you just said made me want to go out tomorrow and vote for nicholson.. NOT

Anonymous said...

yes the kidds are wonderful people, and big redmond supporters.

Anonymous said...

what about the "meet and get a free hotdog" held for Markey at the red light? How is it that that is ok, but whatever the Sheriff does is wrong?? Who cares who the Kidd's support! Does this mean that duckie and his family support Mark? What is your deal? And did the Nicholson campaign report the $1.72 Mark received at the park? How many were there....12? Including Mark and his posse..

Anonymous said...

Well, it is offical!! I was told that Jr H has secured the black vote for us!! This is some of the silent support that we have assured you that we have!!

Go Sheriff Mark!

Anonymous said...

wow if that isnt racist, im gonna print and post this everywhere. to show people the real side of nicholsons support group

Anonymous said...

Please: "Spell Check" and "Grammar Check" before you post. I can't believe we let some of you illiterate morons into a voting booth in the first place.

Some of Redmond's finest displaying their intelligence. Forget the voting booth, think about these people having a gun and badge. That explains why they are the inner circle suck ups.

They aren't capable of performing their duties as law enforcement officers, so in order to keep their job have had to resort to being the Sheriff's evil little lap dogs.

The majority of them are too scared to go on a bad call. I have worked with them for years. Chicken blood runs in their vains. They are too self preserving and self centered to have what it takes to lay their life on the line to protect someone else. They would rather sell their soul to protect Redmond so he can protect them and they can all do as they please. Not a very good long term plan.

Hey 4/20/10 8:53... Why don't you get your damn facts straight before you go bashing Huffstickler on here... One, accusations were made and she made markings on herself. Two, was also arrested for assault, multiple times after, hell was even tazed. Three, she has since then confessed to certain people and her attorney that she made these accusations up. Bet you didn't know that you freaking idiot. So before you go posting and bashing people, you NEED to get your fact's straight! Huffstickler was a damn good deputy, just SUCKS none of the people in the department are trying in anyway to help but a handfull.

So go figure out now how to bash someone else. Cause I'm sure Nicholson has no problem having Huffsticklers vote... as he has mine... Funny Everyone on here is doing nothing but bashing bashing bashing... But I wonder what kind of dirty little secrets are in your closet, how bout you 8:53...???

NICHOLSON 2O1O!!

The Sheriff in the post link above claimed to not know what was going on. Sound familiar?

Citizens said that the Sheriff should have known what was going on in his department. One women said that with that many people convicted how could the Sheriff not known what was going on.

In this post link the character witnesses for the Sheriff asked the judge for a light sentence due to the Sheriff's embarassment and "failing health". Right now they are saying that Redmond's health is great, despite appearances. Let him land in court and Eades will be pushing Redmond in a wheelchair with Hayes holding the oxygen tank. Hepler and Dowdle will be following behind mopping up pee.

The operation rounded up 20 employees, sounds about right. Only about half of them got time. I am certain the rest testified to make the cases solid. The DA said that they acted like they could pretty much do whatever they wanted to do. That sounds familiar as well.

I don't wish any misfortune on anyone but I have to say that the more they show their true colors on here, the less I care what happens to them when they are out of office.

The hyenas should be along any minute now... crawling out of their den and getting today's orders from Redmond.

Anonymous said...

Huffstickler is another example of the two sets of rules for employees. He was falsely accused of something, cleared of any wrong doing and still doesn't have a job. And yes, there is proof.

Others in the department have broken all kinds of laws and stay right where they are or only get moved temporarily. Of course there is a price to pay for that eventually. One of the golden boys has already been to Federal court. Maybe he can give tips to the others on how to talk to the media while going in the courthouse.

Forgot the video link to that last post. This is another of Redmond's golden boys that used to play the game.

I am sure that when the Fed's came around on this that Redmond didn't know a thing about it. Probably could have knocked him down with a feather.

Anonymous said...

The Hyenas aren't up yet? Must have been up all night hitting refresh waiting for that Dynamite guy to come on. They sure are after him. It must be that verbal memo that went out the other day to find out who the hell Dynamite is.

Instead of worrying about who is saying what maybe we should be cleaning up our act and going to confession somewhere. No need piling more wrong on top of what has already been done. Or have we gone so far that there is no turning back? I would put my money on the last guess.

Anonymous said...

huffstickler shut up everyone knows that the sheriffs board pulled your certificate. So theres nothing that can be done until you go in front of them. Secondly Im begging you to get off your ass, and please say this stuff in person. Third off we know who dynamite is, that was easy. He gave it away. Last but not least, we know you all are enemies of the sheriff, because you didnt get a promotion. Why didnt you get a promotion is what i want to know, oh yea because you like to stab people in the back. Just like you would do mark.

Anonymous said...

8:57... It isn't the Sheriffs board it is Sheriff's standards. I wouldn't expect someone as illiterate and unprofessional as yourself to know that.

Don't get too happy with that whole concept that are trying to promote because there are others that had a letter sent to Sheriff's standards asking them to be excused for stuff that they actually did and were found guilty of. I don't recall them going in front of the board. A letter took care of it.

The Sheriff could have done the same for Dennis, he just chose not to. It is actually a compliment that Dennis is not one of the inner circle. His name will be cleared with the simple truth and without the aid of corrupt influence.

Anonymous said...

Bet Huffstickler's girlfriend would tell a different story. You have to ask yourself, is it ever right to beat up on someone?? How can the truth come out??? He hit her didn't he? Isn't ALL law enforcement held to a higher standard? He should have walked away....but no worries, Mark is all fired up to give him a
j-o-b-....while so many who kept their noses clean and would do a good job are left still looking. Good work Nicholson...what a motley crew you seem to have!! By the way...why not make dynadumass your cheif!!!

Anonymous said...

Wow Redmond is even up slightly in this poll? Not looking to good for everyone else. If Redmond can win a poll on here then he is going to win one anywhere. This site has got the highest concentration of Redmond haters of any site that I have seen, but he is still winning. Calling people in the North end of the county a bunch of dumb hicks isn’t going to help your case at all. After all, isn’t Nicholson also from the North end?

Anonymous said...

2:25 You just wait...we are not done yet. We can now claim the black vote, and soon we will secure the Mexican vote too. Redmond is not even in our league!!

Vote Nicholson 2010

Anonymous said...

Grow up, i wouldnt eat at the red light district if it were the last place on earth. Shits just nasty. The problem with yall nicholson supporters and this world, is people try to be to literate. With the stuff yall say, and do yall belong in the liberal party. Nothing conservative about you and the rest of your gang. Im about tired, and bored with your shit. So get a life, job, and new hobby like smoking your sausage. Because debating, and meeting in public is out of your league...

I find this blog to show exactly why no one should run for public office! I wish there was a way to see all these faceless people stand in front of the people you slander here to see if you are small as your comments make you to be! To think that many of you are supposed to be protecting me angers me to the core! I don't care who you vote for. I really don't care why you vote for them. But for you people that have used this blog as a means to tear into every person who may or may not be supporting, or friends of, and especially family, of a Candidate is Juvenile!
I would pay for a ticket to see you spinless people in one room trying to explain your actions!
Makes me wanna go and vote for the ones least talked about !! Or not vote at all because apparently the nastiness runs on several sides!

Anonymous said...

Kidds a good family lol Wow must be a lot of young people that do not remember Daddy Kidd and his criminal charges from Mecklenburg in his sheriffing days? Or maybe like most criminal Redmond is getting some pointers on how to not get caught !

Anonymous said...

I want to ask everyone reading all of these posts to please come out and meet the candidates. Don't go off all the post on here. Take time out of your own schedule and meet who may be your next Sheriff and decide for yourself. I have personally done this myself and it has helped me make my decision on who will get my vote. I have had the pleasure of working with 4 of the 5 candidates. I am very happy to say I think Mark is an outstanding individual and will be a great benefit to the citizens of this county.

Anonymous said...

I"ll pray for you all!!

cindy said...

Outstanding individual? Its really hard for me to believe that considering it seems that his supporters and maybe he himself are behind spreading a lot of these rumors! I have seen very little spread about him, which says a lot for his competition.

Anonymous said...

Hey Cindy- Bite me!! We don't need your one vote anyway. And tell your boyfriend Joe the dump truck driver to keep his too!! Mark will win without you!!!

Vote Mark for Sheriff

Anonymous said...

(Hey 2:33pm) Black Vote, Mexican Vote, do you put burning crosses in peoples front yards to?

Are you wearing a white sheet over your head?

Do you have all of your teeth? And do you play a Banjo?

Does anyone ever think about the people who are not picking sides and just doing their jobs?

How all of this shit effects them?

Kind of makes a man want to switch uniforms (police)

Hours and hours of posts all intended to make Mark Nicholson look bad. That is a lot of effort to put into a candidate that you claim doesn't stand a chance of winning.

It also tells me that you are very concerned.

Ya'll have a good evening.

What an embarrassment for the GOP!!!! I have been following this blog for a long time and commenting when needed. As a native of Mooresville I cannot believe the similarities between the comments written here and the ones that we all read before the police chief here was fired. There has been some spitting back and forth but to the one or two atrocious people that are being malicious in your comments pretending to represent one candidate but OBVIOUSLY representing Mr. Redmond; you are making Mr. Redmond look really bad. You are not doing him any favors and I am floored that he has not called you into his Office and punished you for making him look like he is backed by lying, ignorant, racist fools. Birds of a feather flock together. You have reached an all time low.
We in Mooresville have seen your kind before and can see right through you. We cut our teeth on people like you. You have insured that Mr. Redmond will not receive mine or my families vote. I also will make sure that everybody in my subdivision knows what kind of support Mr. Redmond has on the Blog even though I am pretty sure everybody in Curtis Pond reads this Blog anyway.
I have never met the Sheriff but if his supporters will stoop so low as to pretend to be a racist person who is supporting another candidates, this says alot about the Sheriff. I went door to door to talk about Mr. Nicholson to people in my subdivision on Sunday but if other candidate for Sheriff wants to bring literature out to Curtis Pond in Mooresville, we have hundreds of homes. I will be going door to door making sure everybody has read the latest comments on the Blog to see how Mr. Redmond's support base is racist and lies.
