Top cops meeting less than sheriff said

Just how strong are the relationships between the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies?

At the April 13 candidates’ forum, all four men seeking to oust Phil Redmond said if the relationships exist at all, they are strained and need improvement. One candidate pointed out that the higher the rank, the worse the communication seems between the agencies.

But Redmond disputed that. “The higher up you go, we’ve got a good working relationship; I think the chief of police would back that up,” he said, citing joint task forces with the Statesville Police Department and monthly meetings “to interact” with the police chiefs of Statesville, Troutman and Mooresville.

But e-mails this week from all three municipal chiefs revealed that the three have not met collectively with Redmond for a monthly meeting. And two of the three chiefs have met together with him only once in the past six months. Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson said that meeting occurred the first week of December 2009.

Troutman Police Chief Matthew Selves, who attended the meeting with Redmond and Anderson, said during the meeting, “we talked about meeting again in January but I knew that I was going to have a scheduling conflict for that date.”

Mooresville Police Chief Carl Robbins said he hasn’t been meeting with the sheriff at all. “I cannot speak for the other chiefs since they may meet with him regularly,” said Robbins, “but I have not been meeting with him.”

Robbins said that Redmond sent a message to him “sometime after August 2009,” stating that “he wanted to start having a lunchtime meeting every month with the chiefs.” However, Robbins said, “Just before the first scheduled meeting, someone had a scheduling conflict and we did not meet as scheduled.”

The meetings were not planned monthly, said Selves: “I would wait to hear a date from the Sheriff’s Office."

The sheriff apparently decided recently that he wants to resurrect the idea of monthly joint meetings. "A few weeks ago," said Robbins, "I received another message that the Sheriff wanted to start meeting again."

Selves said he believes the joint monthly meetings would be beneficial for the law enforcement community. “The Troutman Police Department feels that anytime law enforcement is able to interact in these types of meetings and/or in the field of operations, the entire law enforcement network in Iredell County is strengthened,” he said.

Said Statesville’s Anderson: “my department strives on a daily basis to work proactively with all law enforcement agencies and the community as well. This is a priority for my agency.”

Jamie, Put whatever twist u want, the Sheriff has proved you are a liar and are only out to cloud the water....you did not tell the whole story....but hell who would expect you too. You are in bed with some and think this little misleading story will sway some no.........it just looks like you are after the Sheriff...but we all know why from your past

The Sheriff also said in the video they had not had the meetings in awhile, so quit trying to say he said this...

Jamie,

After reviewing the forum I notice that the sheriff says that they WERE meeting monthly. I see that with your talks with the other Chiefs they say that they were attempting to meet but scheduling conflicts got in the way. So I don’t really see what point you are attempting to make? Do you have some axe to grind with the current sheriff? It sure seems that judging by your previous articles you like to print stories against the sheriff, but fail to present all the facts. Sure makes me wonder about your agenda.

Anonymous said...

4:05....her entire agenda is to try to discredit the sheriff in some form or fashion. I can not believe a grown woman would act this way. I am astounded that she calls herself a journalist. Maybe the national enquirer is hiring...

I was recently informed about this blog and was encouraged to come on here and read it. I have to say that I am truly astounded by the articles that have been written on this blog about the Sheriff. It seems in every article that this blog writer has written against the sheriff it has been proven wrong. Why are these stories being printed without all of the facts?

Take for example this current article. The forum video is linked on this site, and there is absolutely no excuse for not getting this article correct. From what I have seen on the video it states that they were trying to meet monthly. The Chief’s seem to confirm that, and also seem to confirm the fact that the Sheriff’s office was trying to get that started back up. The sheriff also stated that Mooresville wouldn’t come on board with the taskforces, and I have to wonder if that has anything to do with Blocker. I mean after all, isn’t he a Mooresville police officer?

Some of the articles that have been printed trying to make the sheriff look bad are nothing more that shoddy journalism, and I really have to question the blog administrator’s ethics. I encourage everyone to go watch the video for themselves. It is all too easy to disprove this lie.

This article is a fair representation of the issue that was brought up in the forum. For those posting the fact that all you have to do is watch the video I did. At 24 minutes 35 seconds into the video the sheriff says that the ICSD and Statesville PD have three joint task forces. If your definition of a task force is a group of officers from different agencies working together (jointly) on narcotic investgations, meeting daily or even weekly, then you people are sadly mistaken. If you mean that agencies occasionally share information or one officer assists the other agency on rare occasions then the statement is more accurate. Next the Statesville Iredell Gang Initiative. This is a federal grant program that is administered and coordinated by the Statesville Police department. The task force in this case is the ICSD assigned a jailer to be the gang officer. He has been in BLET for the past few months and the allotment of funds for his position were cut in half and given to a Troutman officer. Again not a true representation of a TASK FORCE. The Sexual Offender task force is one Statesville Officer spending a few hours a week checking up on sexual offenders in the the city. Are any of these Task Forces, no they are not, they are small examples of what could be accomplished between agencies with something more then window dressing.
The next issue is what the Sheriff did say verbatim. I talk with the Chief (Statesville) regularly. Try about 4 meetings in the entire time Anderson has been Chief. That by the way has been since September of 2008. Yea, thats regular. You may say well he probably talks with him by phone all the time. Wrong again. The sheriff has a Captain call the Chief when he has something to say. I wish this qiestion had been asked by nthe reporter. Face to face meetings may be harder to coordinate but to have a captain always call when communicating with another agency head is disgraceful.
As far as his communication with other agency heads I think they answered the question for themselves. There is none. Saying that you want to start weekly meetings is a nice thing to say but it has not happeded and would not be happening if it wasent for the election. otherwise it would not have been brought up as an issue!
Good job on the report but i agree you should ask more direct questions involving the communication and task force statements brought up in the forum.

Communication is a two way street. Regardless of what the sheriff said or should have said, why is it only his responsibility to make arrangement to meet with agency heads. That is their collective responsibility. 5:16 wants to act like he or she knows all that goes on. Coordination and cooperation is a problem throughout law enforcement. Don't try to pin it on the only target you clearly don't like.

Anonymous said...

Boy the defense team jumps on here quick with multiple posts from one or two people. As 5:16 said, this article is a fair representation of the issue brought up at the forum; How good are the relationships between the Sheriffs Office and other departments. All the candidates but Redmond agreed that there are not good working relationships.

5:16 did an excellant job of stating all the facts that need to be pointed out. A quick summary on my part would be as follows:

Four of the five candidates for Sheriff say we do not have a good working relationship with other departments.

Redmond said that we do have a good working relationship and worded his response to give the impression that he meets regularly with all of the other department heads.

Meeting with SPD Chief Anderson four times in thirty months isn't exactly a regular thing. That doesn't even compute to twice a year.

Trying to meet with MPD Robbins once doesn't qualify as a good relationship either.

Redmond did say several weeks ago that he wanted to get those joint meetings going again. Meetings is plural, there was one.

And as has been pointed out, he wants to do this again with an election coming up. All he has to do is talk about doing it until after election. It's not what you do, it's what people think you do.

This issue and his statements about it are a prime example of how Redmond operates the entire department.

Redmond having somebody else to call for him is normal, he has everybody to do everything for him. He is completely uninvolved with the department except;

...to come down on people if they make a mistake that makes him look bad.

...to have his picture taken with anything that makes him look good.

Maybe if Donna Swicegood started photgraphing Officer's funerals Redmond would attend them.

As I said, 5:16 did a fine job laying out the details on this issue.

Anonymous said...

6:55... the Sheriff is the one taking credit and therefore responsibility for having the meetings. It was HIS idea, remember? Redmond had someone to contact the others. That puts him in charge.

As the highest ranking official in the county, with the most resources shouldn't he lead by example anyway?

Doesn't his area of jurisdiction surround all the others?

Don't the other departments depend on him for assistance in things in the county since he supported and got their jurisdiction revoked?

I agree that coordination and cooperation is a problem all throughout law enforcement. All the more reasons to call for and actually have joint meetings at least once a month and an open dialogue between the department heads and not their personal secretary with Captain rank.

Anonymous said...

I think he said that Mooresville was not participating.

Anonymous said...

7:48 What would be the reason for that?

And also that leaves two other agencies.

Anonymous said...

Two other agencies, one of which is has been repeatedly asking for more cooperation. Read back over the jursdiction articles. It's all there.

Let me set something straight. There are a few select on here that try to make Redmond out to be the vitiem. They are trying to make people believe that Redmond is just getting picked on because he is "the only target you clearly don't like."

It isn't about the person, it is about the choices and actions of that person. When those bad choices and actions are no longer affecting the citizens of Iredell County, I will no longer have no any qualms with the individual.

Anonymous said...

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

At least Redmond attempted to start these meetings...........why did the Chiefs not try to get some meetings going, but instead depend on Redmond to set up everything.

Anonymous said...

8:13

As I said earlier, cooperating is a two way street. I'm not defending Redmond. I didn't believe his answer at the forum either, whether it was deliberate or misstated. But to put it squarely at his feet is totally wrong. How hard is it for Anderson to pick up his telephone and call Redmond and say we need to have a meeting. How hard is that? I know a number of police officers personally, many that work in specialized units for multiple agencies. I know that the sheriff's office works narcotics cases regularly with the Mooresville PD. Troutman PD does not even have a narcotics officer. Statesville PD has one or two, depending on what day of the month it is. I know that the sheriff's office has about 20 officers working drugs in one way or the other. It would appear that these agencies all have different agendas. The gang units and the sex crimes units are just getting off the ground. It looks from my seat that there needs to be a better collective effort on everyones part, including Redmond, if he's still sheriff.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like 8:13 is mad about getting his countywide police jurisdiction jerked and putting Iredell County back in line with the other 99 counties in North Carolina. Go cry in your milk.

I'M MAD AS HELL. LOL MAD MAX

Redmond just wanted to give the appearance of wanting to head up the meetings so he could get credit for it and use it later like he did at the forum.

He sent a request to Mooresville sometime after August. The next contact was in December and the next one after that was as the election was drawing close. He needed to bring it up again to keep appearances up.

It's not what you do, it's what people think you do.

Truth be known Redmond does his best to avoid joint efforts on everything so he doesn't have to share the credit. He can also control things (actually, HAVE them controlled) to suit his agenda.

Again... Redmond just wanted to give the appearance of wanting to head up the meetings so he could get credit for it and use it later like he did at the forum.

Just trying to be helpful, sorry.

Now back to the lack of good relationship between agencies after 16 years of Redmond being at the helm.

By the way that's another lie he keep telling. He keep saying that he has been Sheriff for 16 years. It won't be 16 years until December... another seven months away.

I guess if you say it enough people will believe it.

NOW back to the lack of good relationship between agencies after 15 years and 5 months of Redmond being at the helm.

Anonymous said...

So you were bragging about how after fourteen years and eight months, the insightful and ever aware Sheriff Redmond decided to call monthly meetings to improve the working relationships with the other agencies, but didn't actually go through with it.

Go ahead.

Anonymous said...

Redmond said that he had a good working relationship with the higher ups, that he met with them regularly and said that the police chief would back him up. Well it looks like the Sheriff just out right lied. Four of the Candidates said that there was no good working relationship and now three police chiefs and you want everyone to believe Redmond. Redmond lied through his teeth at the forum. What else is he lying about? Maybe all the things on the blogs on the Gatton report are true.

And now you people defending Redmond are trying to make it the Chiefs fault Redmond has been caught in a BOLD FACE LIE. Redmond is the one who said it, if it was the other chiefs fault that they were not working together Redmond should have said that. No Redmond said they have a good relationship and met regularly. He is a LIAR.

Vote him out. He doesn't care about the citizens of this county he only cares about himself and his ego.

Anonymous said...

Good point. He DID say they had a great relationship but at the same time said that Mooresville wouldn't participate. Was that all in the same 1 minute answer, or is that accumulated information?

The problem with telling lies is that you have to tell another to cover up the first AND you have to remember them all. There are so many to remember after all of these years that Redmond is tripping over them.

That whole what people think you do thing is falling apart like Redmond at a forum.

Anonymous said...

Why are you people bringing up Nicholson in this the Sheriff is the one that said that he had a good relationship with the other higher ups. Then the other higher ups said they didn't. This has nothing to do with Nicholson other than he was one of the four that said there were problems with the relationships between the law enforcement agencies. Why are you singleing Nicholson out.

It does't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if everyone is on the same page and you are working together you can get more done.

No, it sounds like he is only interested in what it looks like he is doing when election time rolls around.

Yes, he might be re-elected and that will be a sad thing for Iredell County.

Redmond being told the questions prior to the forum was a concern from beginning with the Record & Landmark being involved. Without getting into details, they have tipped him off plenty of times before.

That being said, I sat and watched the video again. Check it out yourself... when Jeff say's that the candidates did not recieve the questions, Redmond does a big blink. When Jeff says that very few people have copies of these, Redmond blinks REALLY long and looks down. Basic interview techniques, he's not looking too good.

That isn't what I noticed first though. Something struck me as odd the first time I watched this but I didn't pick up on it. Now I see it.

When Redmond is asked about the current conditions of the jail, he dives right in. There is no thought given to his answer. It is memorized. Not only that, but he instantly knows how many prisoners the jail was over crowed at that day.

Redmond doesn't know half of what is going on anywhere, let alone how many prisoners are in the jail. He knew the question before it was asked. He is the only candidate that didn't have to stop and pause for a split second when they were the first candidate to answer a question. He jumps right in rattling off like an auctioneer.

Redmond's monkeys will be here any second slinging their fecal matter at your screen. Ignore that and watch the video yourself.

Once it is pointed out it is very obvious what was going on.

how can anyone say he is not doing his job in excess of 175.1 million in drugs seized, over 7 million in cash all taken from drug dealers....go look at his website stats speak for themselves, the citizens like this hardnose approach to crime....yes it was his employeesthat did this but they must be happy to do such a great job for him

Anonymous said...

If the employees are happy now, they will be ecstatic when Redmond are gone.

Ya'll watch the video of Phil with his memorized answers. Now I know why he got so flustered at the drugs and gang answer of the first three candidates...it didn't match his answer.

"Gangs sound good but the major problem is drugs and break ins...thank you!"

That makes absoulutely no sense. They asked for the two biggest problems. Redmond said himself that drugs are behind most break ins. That is like saying Drunk drivers and drunk driving wrecks as two different problems.

The other candidates have a good focus when they say drugs and gangs. If gangs overlooked they will be a major problem in another 5 years. Charlotte ignored it in the beginning and look at the problem they have now.

Keep in mind that Charlotte is only an hour from here and they are cracking down harder now. They will belooking for new territory to operate in where they aren't as identified yet.

Redmond's facade is falling apart.

First he got caught in a lie on tape and now it is obvious that he knew the questions or at minimum one of the questions before getting to the forum.

The name of this article should have been

Liar Liar Pants on Fire.

I would say that it is time for new leadership, but that would be giving too much credit to Redmond by insinuating that he even resembles a leader. At best he is an egotistical tyrant of a dictator. If he was running a country people would be tying 2 litre soda bottles together to float to freedom. Fortunately he doesn't have that kind of power and is somewhat held in check by the fact that he is an elected official.

Still yet, there are many people who fear Redmond. How pathetic that the person designated with the authority to make our county safer is instead instilling fear in people who know who he is and how he is.

That is about to change though. As Redmond's public false image starts breaking down it will give people the courage to step up with information.

When he gets out of office, it will collapse on him for sure, whether it is this election or two elections from now. That is why he is struggling so hard to stay in office. He doesn't want what happened to Easley to happen to him.

Why else would a man in bad health who is President of huge oil company fight so hard to stay in a position where 98% of the people who really know him want him gone.

There are other fringe benefits as well. No need to get into that prematurely. That will come with time.

The small band of people who have shared the fringe benefits by being "close" to Redmond are fighting will all their might to keep Redmond in. There is a common theme and that is if I go down, you go down.

On the other hand there is a large group of people fighting for all they are worth to see that truth and justice prevail this election. If it is time, they will prevail, but sooner or later Redmond and his inner circle will be out and the county can actually be a safer and better place to live and raise a family.

I still haven't seen why Nicholson is being brought up in this.

Also I am tired of hearing how much drugs and drug money he has gotton off the highway. 175.1 Million drugs what percentage of that was actually from drug houses in Iredell County and I'm not taking about the ones arrested for small individual use.

7million in cash, what percentage of that was out of the county and not off the interstate. I read that every million seized is just a drop in the bucket to the drug cartels.

I want to know how many drug houses in Iredell County have been shut down as a result of all these statistics Redmond keeps talking about.

I also want to know just how much resources he provides out of all the 250 workers for domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse cases. I have been told it is very little.

What is sounds like to me after reading all the blogs on this site is that the only thing the Sheriff does is have his interstate drug interdicition team get alot of drugs and money off the interstate that is going somewhere eles and ignors the problems going on directly in the county. Getting drugs out of the County and the schools would take a lot more effort on his part.

It's time for a change.

Nicholson is being brought up repeatedly because Redmond knows that he is a serious contender and the best candidate for this race. Although the blog poll is certainly not an accurate account of public opinion, in this case it does give a good idea of support.

The Gatton report is primarily a Mooresville area blog and Blocker isn't showing enough support to even be considered as a serious candidate.

That means that Republican wise it is between Redmond and Nicholson, which is what Redmond already knew was going to happen. That is why so much effort has been put into attempts to discredit Nicholson and his supporters. Rest assured that if past elections are any indication it will only get worse.

I didn't see it, but there was reportedly a really nasty letter circulated about Sarah Kirkman just prior to election. It was reportedly sent out by Alan Martin who was publically backed by, you got it, Redmond. Birds of a feather flock together by all means.

As in the case with Chief Crone, it will be nice when the truth finally does see the light of day and the blog once again goes silent following the defeat of corruption.

I have reviewed the video, and still don’t see what people are talking about on here. He states that they were trying to meet monthly. He also states that Mooresville wasn’t participating, but he hoped that maybe that would change after the election. I don’t see anything that the chiefs said that reflects that there are not “good working relationships” between the different agencies. I notice that Jamie didn’t see to ask Tom Anderson what kind of relationship they had, and I have to wonder why? Are you scared the answer might be that they do have a good relationship? Any relationship can always improve, but I believe Redmond stated that was the case. I can’t help but notice that the Nicholson crowd has joined us again, and I know that they will continue to stir this until they can find something else to harp on. From reviewing the video I see that Nicholson is a proponent of County Wide jurisdictions for the city departments. I wonder how those working in Law Enforcement feel about that, or how the tax payers that pay for the city departments feel about that.

People can attempt to spin something any way that they want to, but as long as the video stays up people can just get the facts. The people reading this blog are not dumb enough to believe what people are saying it without checking for themselves. Just watch the video and you will see that this is just another attempt for this blog and the some of the commenter’s of this blog to talk more negatively about Redmond.

I’m really not sure how in the world some people on here have come to the conclusion that Redmond had the questions in advance. Is this your attempt to explain why Redmond did a better job than the candidate that you are supporting?

Miglin... does Chief Anderson feel that there is a good working relationship between himself and Sheriff Redmond?

Anonymous said...

11:11... I appreciate you presenting your viewpoint in a calm and logical manner. I have to say that I respectfully dissagree with much of your information though.

"I have reviewed the video, and still don’t see what people are talking about on here. He states that they were trying to meet monthly."

No, Redmond clearly says that we "were" meeting monthly.

"He also states that Mooresville wasn’t participating, but he hoped that maybe that would change after the election."

Redmond said that Mooresville wasn't participating in the Task Force work. This article was about Redmond giving the implication that he meets with all the heads of other departments on a monthly basis.

As for not directly asking Anderson for his opinion about the quality of the relationship between Redmond and himself, I noticed that Redmond said you can ask the Chief. I THINK he will back me up on that. Probably good for you that Jamie didn't ask that question.

If you actually reviewed the video and honestly claim that your opinion is based on facts, it disturbs me that you are probably in law enforcement and currently serving as one who is supposed to be looking out for the citizens of this county. Here is a transcript of the statement that you got your "facts" from;

Redmond said...

" I talk with the Chief regularly. Uh..I talk with the Chief in Mooresville, uh...we were meeting once a month to interact uh.. and uh.. I hope that, we've offered Mooresville the opportunity to come on board with these task force and I hope after the election we can bring that t-to pass, but the uh community uh, the higher, the higher up you go we have a good working relationship and uh, and I think the Chief of Police will back that up."

I couldn't begin to fathom how you got what you did from what was said.

The only way out of this is to produce a video of Redmond at the Mooresville Government Center at the same time as the forum. Then, charge someone else for slanderously impersonating a politician.

Excuse me 11:11 I forgot to address another of your questions. It didn't sdeem important since you have already tried to use it numerous times before. I will copy and paste the same answer that you recived before.

Your question;

" From reviewing the video I see that Nicholson is a proponent of County Wide jurisdictions for the city departments. I wonder how those working in Law Enforcement feel about that, or how the tax payers that pay for the city departments feel about that."

(The original attempt to derail the facts was an accusation of Mark supporting community policing. I see you regrouped this time. So other than the the term community policing, this response still more than sufficiently answers your question for the voters.)

"Now about the Statesville PD working the county; Mark never said anything about "county wide policing". He said we will work together and share information. Also, if the Statesville PD or any other agency has officers that are sworn county wide it will save the S.O. money and manpower and also help the city taxpayers.

How you ask? Many times crimes are committed in the city limits by people who live in the county. Investigating officers from the city end up having to get a county officer to accompany them to talk to the suspect. This ties the city officer’s hands and uses manpower from the county that doesn't need to be used. THAT is the purpose of having people sworn in county wide.

Anything else you want to know, just lay it out there. I think it is incredible that Redmond hasn't taken your keyboard and broken it over your head."

As I said before, anything else you are wanting to know, just lay it out there.

11:15: It would not be proper for me to say what Tom feels about the working relationship between the two agencies.

Now, do I feel that there is a good working relationship? No, not as good as it can be. We hope to see it improve with collaborative effort on both sides. Do I personally like the people at ISCO? Yes, and I've told them so several times. But the communication is not what it needs to be, and there have been several recent instances where that has been evident. People may disagree with my opinion, and that's ok. But, despite my faults, I try to see all sides and happen to feel that there is room for improvement.

Anonymous said...

The next time you vote remember...

Four out of five candidates recommend better working relationship with the different agencies.

Phillip Redmond has had over 15 years to build those working relationships. He decided that this time he was weak enough in support that he needed the wxtra votes and said in August that he wanted to meet monthly. Being the creit hog that he is, he couldn't bring himself to actually go through with a plan to meet and work together.

If him and Anderson were on the front page together, Redmond's lip would be stuck out. It's a sad thing it is.

Anonymous said...

Miglin.. very professional of you not to represent the Chief in your opinion. That question was a rhetorical one. Thank you for your response though.

I feel you fairly and objectively described the current circumstances.

11:11... I missed another point as well. My aplogies. Here is your question:

"I’m really not sure how in the world some people on here have come to the conclusion that Redmond had the questions in advance. Is this your attempt to explain why Redmond did a better job than the candidate that you are supporting?"

And here is the response, already posted previously;

" Check it out yourself... when Jeff say's that the candidates did not recieve the questions, Redmond does a big blink.

He jumps right in rattling off like an auctioneer."

I’m not sure what your idea of respectfully disagreeing means, but where I am from it sure doesn’t mean making false assumptions about me and talking about someone hitting me over the head with a keyboard.

I might remind you what people say about assuming things……

I’m really not sure where to start with the things that you are saying……You can take all the cheap shots you want to take, and try to distort the facts anyway you would like. After watching the video for the third time now I still don’t see what the issue is. Anyway you want to look at the statement the word “were” means that it is not currently happening. The chiefs admit that Redmond had contacted them trying to start meetings again. It seems to me that the offer has been extending, but I don’t believe that he can make the chiefs meet.

Yet again you are misrepresenting the video….Redmond says that the jail is “about” 40 over capacity. That does not give a clear number, but more of a range. I’m sorry that he was able to dive right in, and it seems to be killing you that he knew what he was talking about.

I’m not sure what candidate that you support but I would guess Nicholson since you jumped so fast to defend his county wide jurisdiction stuff. I made a call to the Statesville Police department and it turns out that yet again you are not stating all of the facts. The departments have mutual aid agreements for working such cases. It also turns out that majority (99) of the other counties in the state of NC work under this same setup as what we currently have. So will you please respectfully explain to me what makes Iredell County such a different situation?

You have this theme of saying that Redmond doesn’t know what is going on but it seems like he has his facts together; it seems that the better question would be do you have your facts together?

The mutual aid doesn't allow officers to enter into the county on their own to make arrests. It makes provision for them to request help from the county for personnel and resources. You can put as much effort into this whole thing as you want to. I have been requested myself to go along with officers from other agencies if they thought that an arrest may be the outcome.

"WHEREAS, pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes 160A-288 and 90-95.2, the governing body of a city or county may adopt appropriate guidelines for the purpose of mutual assistance with other municipal and county law enforcement agencies; and,

WHEREAS, pursuant to said laws, the law enforcement assistance to be rendered authorizes lending officers to work temporarily WITH officers of the requesting agencies, including in an undercover capacity and lending equipment and supplies."

About the were deal. He could have said we met one time. But he didn't he stated that;

" I talk with the Chief regularly. Uh..I talk with the Chief in Mooresville, uh...we were meeting once a month to interact uh.. and uh.."

Redmond is what he is and there is no amount of defending that can undo that. The rest of your post is nothing other than a dodge of the facts and not worth responding to. You have a good day.

It seems to be a reoccurring theme for you to not respond to the questions that you seem to think isn’t worth responding to. I think that the questions sound very valid…what makes Iredell different than the other counties, because they seem to work fine?

Go ahead and address the lie Redmond told on tape and try to explain why he is credible enough to be a trusted public official.

That was the original question that has been danced around since this pots was made.

Another of Redmond's sayings...

If you get in trouble, deny and make counter claims.

You seemed to be following orders well.

Dancing around the truth and dodging questions isn't a reacurring theme with Redmond's group, it is the ONLY theme.

Jim a little advice, just stay away from this blog. There are nothing but left wing liberal liars, on here. They will down everything you and anyone with common sense say. They dont want to dicuss the facts, the debate them with lies. They all are ex employees of the ICSO, and are filled with anger. The reason they have so much hatred, is because the didnt get the promotion, raise that they wanted. For instance duck, was a huge Redmond supporter. Last golf tournament he had, i saw duck handing out signs telling people how great the sheriff was. He sure knows how to stab someone in the back. Secondly Fromme was an attention getter, and wanted the sheriff position himself. Benfield on the other hand was a long time Redmond supporter but the sheriff wouldnt give him handouts,so he figured he would run. Last but not least Wallace is disappointed that he lost his chief deputy position so he stab the sheriff in the back. Jim if you dont believe me, just ask any of them to meet and discuss. Or better yet go by the board of elections, youll see them campaigning for Nicholson.

Anonymous said...

Jim W. You are an honest person with a good opinion......Miglin I appreciate you coming on, but maybe a few of the reasons the relationship is strained is go look at the Sheriff's Face book Scott Reed attacked and was pissed because the paper runs stories or arrest, but the Sheriff responded to him with ( maybe scott should arrest some then he can get some press) how about the Asst Chief telling people do not give ICSO any information....do not make me go on. To blame this on the Sheriff because of the relationship is false blame go all sides....I believe The Sheriff has tried to build partnerships, as he said at the Forum maybe Anderson, Robbins, and Selves should try.

Election prediction:

9,000 Republican primary voters. Blocker and the Mooresville Machine gets 2,000 votes. That leaves 7,000 for Redmond and Nicholson. Incumbents are hard to beat, but Nicholson has at least made it to the last lap. It's a two man race.

I have been in Law Enforcement for many years, almost 30. The various agencies of Iredell have NEVER gotten along with each other very well. The top brass that is. Statesville and Mooresville have had 8 or 9 Chiefs (counting interim Chiefs) together and Troutman has had several as well. During this time there have been several Sheriffs also. LeRoy, JD Benfield, Clyde Lloyd and Redmond. Most of these Chiefs and Sheriffs have not been able to get along except for an occasional meeting where they hardly speak to each other. I am not pointing a finger at any one of them..... the fact is they have NEVER been able to get along and they NEVER will. Redmond has not been able to make it happen in "how many years"? What makes him think he can change it after the election?

It's no different here than anywhere else. All you have to do is go ask officers in departments statewide. The marriage works when it needs to, but most of the rest of the time they live in separate houses. As I saw stated earlier, it's their collective responsibility to make it work. You can't throw it at the feet of just one.

Anonymous said...

12:15 ...No I am not saying that at all. I guess I was saying that (about Redmond) "why should we think he is going to start now"? The guys on patrol have always worked to back each other up as they should. The problem comes after a bad situation occurs and that in turn causes a new policy to come down. The new policy is generaly not explained very well and hence rumors start to fly about the real reason for the policy in the first place. It gets translated "the Chief don't want us helping the County" when in fact that is not the case at all. enough of that..
Redmond has had his chance to change things as the "High Sheriff" and he has not been able to step up to the plate and pull the departments together so why should we think he will even try now. He don't have to. He IS the high sheriff. Just ask him. He likes to say it. It's time for new blood.

Anonymous said...

it is the duty of the chiefs to try also, has anderson tried to set up monthly meetings, had robbins, or selves...no so the sheriff has added three taskforces...has any of the cities done this

Anonymous said...

Quit getting off the point, the Sheriff ( Phil Redmond) is the one that said he has a good relationship, he talks to them on a regular basis and they have monthly meetings. If it was not true he should not have said it no matter who you think should be responsible for getting the meetings together.

THE SHERIFF LIED TO MAKE HIMSELF LOOK GOOD BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER CANDIDATES SAID THE RELATIONSHIP WAS NOT GOOD.

That is the point of the article , not who should be responsible for getting the meeting together.

POINT IS THE SHERIFF LIED TO MAKE HIMSELF LOOK GOOD. BRINGS TO MIND THE SAYING THAT SOME HAVE BEEN PUTTING ON HERE

IT'S NOT WHAT YOU DO , BUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK YOU DO THAT MATTERS.

WELL NOT IN THE LONG RUN.

Anonymous said...

4:51 they will keep you running in circles for as long as you will allow them. They have no good defense for Redmond or themselves on anything. All they can do is keep switching tactics and repeatedly bring up the same accusations and questions. Deny and make counter claims! Who do you think has told them that? probably the same person that I have heard make that statement.

If you make a good responsible post with valid points they get ugly or ignore the question and ask you questions. If you get tired of their crap and start burning their ass, then they claim that you are not very nice or professional.

The reason that 98% of the department wants Redmond and his inner circle gone is because of what you see here... vindictive immature games.

What comes around goes around and they can see it coming which is making them worse. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you think this is something watch what they do when the last several days get here. You haven't seen mudslinging the likes of what you are about to see.

These people have devoted themselves to personal gain at the expense of whoever gets in the way. It isn't just Remond. There is a small circle of people around him who are the epitomy of evil.

It is way past time for change and thier posts on here are clearly indicitive of that need for change.

4:51...If you argue with a stupid person they will drag you down to thier level and beat you with experience.

Just step back and watch things happen. The karma train may be running late, but it is about to make a stop at the ICSO.

I have been reading your blog for a while now just observing at the comments posted here. I've also visited the Statesville Record & Landmark blog that was much of the same. But some things have really stuck out at me. For example one Redmond supporter actually attacked ordinary citizens, whose jobs didn't depend on the outcome of the election, naming names, just for not supporting Redmond and putting up signs. What's this all about? Do you mean to tell me if you don't support Redmond, a taxpaying citizen, who believes in a different candidate is targeted and ridiculed personally? I haven't seen any of the other candidates responding in this way. I've had my neighbors tell me of how they have been personally attacked by the Redmond innercircle for HAVING A NICHOLSON SIGN in their yard. What IS the inner workings of this DEPARTMENT, run by Redmond, so AFRAID of that would be EXPOSED should they loose their power, that would warrant this type of behavior to intimidate ordinary citizens? This to me SPEAKS loudly for itself as to who I will support. I do know for a FACT that if the election was won on morality and that if the elected official that held the title of Sheriff was held accountable to uphold his position as a moral leader and a DEVOTED husband and father, the current Sherriff Redmond, would not win. But it doesn't seem to matter anymore that the office of Sheriff should be held up to that standard, because the signs that I see supporting him in yards have closed their eyes and ears and overlooked this common knowledge of wrong doing. However, I do know that there are even DEEPER wrong doings that will eventually be shown! The people of Iredell County finally have a choice that they can make to be able if nothing else to free all of the ones, I see here on this blog and others, who are held in bondage of the current Sheriffs Power hold. Where all citizens of Iredell County will be protected and respected and not threatened and intimidated because of their choice to do what they feel is right.

I also have noticed what 8:47 posted to be true. Lieutenants and Captains for the sheriff's office calling civilians and employees they work with to find out where a sign should be put on their property.
You anonymous people are not only pointing fingers at current and former employees but according to the 3:49 poster you are even bringing in their wives.
A sad sad attack. I know one of those names real well, I am certain your being anonymous means either you are afraid to tell any of them publicly whatever it is you are implying or you simply are slinging mud hoping for a response to sway others.
Everyone keeps talking of suing and proving .. Look at your posts, they speak for themselves as far as any proof I need.

Anonymous said...

Right on 9:26 !!!
3:49 you are the last one to speak of little birdie and about suing someone. Are you speaking of Redmond threatening to sue Bills for saying "It's not what you know but who you blow?" in reference to why there was no public discipline or knowledge of any discipline to a secretary that had a positive Pee test.
Or you speaking of Redmond being sued by some of those names you mentioned? I think you are right though, Reckoning is a comin' I hope you are in on some of the reckoning when it happens. Or are you gonnna hit that back door and say "Wow that BS was true!" ?
Either way it really don't matter to me .. I will still "Live, work and play" safely in Iredell County. Oh wait we changed it this election to be something else, I forgot the new BS slogan stolen from another politician!

8:47,

good try! and then you wanted to post again at 9:26 and 9:44. congrats...we are the only two people left.

Just go back and read the post. I dont see anyone attacking but the nicholson supporters. Its ashame mark hasnt put a sock in your mouths yet. To be honest there has been a lot of violent slander attacks, on the sheriff and his deputies. In other words id walk on thin ice, because the people you tell things to might just be friends with the sheriff. If the sheriff was a bad person, he would have fired everyone, who has talked bad about him. Its the fear of losing and not getting what you want out of it, that makes you go on to smear someone. And yall keep talking about the karma train, read what yall post. I sure feel sorry for anyone yall support, because if they dont give you what you want. The smearing will turn to them.

Anonymous said...

11:26... You are obviously one of the inner circle who knows that most of the information placed on here about Redmond and his inner circle is true. The only reason I say most, is because there may have been something that I didn't read.

Redmond and his inner circle know that they have only bought time, because what is coming is coming. The people on the truthful side of these issues have the peace of mind of knowing that if things aren't made right with this election, they eventually will be.

Your only chance of avoiding indictments is if Redmond takes the way of Leroy Reavis and passes away in office. I can't put it any simpler than that. That seems to be Redmond's plan. Well, that is a heck of a plan.

When Redmond first came in to office in 1994, he was smart about things, made friends and kept a low profile. But now he has been in so long that he has lost touch with reality. He has no concept of how exposed he is and how many of those friends he has stepped on.

The only thing keeping him from being thrown out and indicted is the fear factor that he so proudly implements as part of his everyday workings.

He corrupts those around him by enticing them to do things that he later can threaten to expose them with. His system logic is, if I go down, you are going down with me.

He is also smart enough not to do many things himself, he has others to do them for him so he can tell them that I didn't do that, you did it.

Redmond has devoted his life to self promotion by use of others through deception and trickery. He is as fine example of an evil politician that Iredell County has ever had.

The attempts on here and through other means to expose the truth were met with the like minded evil verbal assaults of his inner circle. Those assaults are no different than the demons from hell who try to scorn everything good in this world. That is actually what this election boils down to; good against evil.

Ephesians 6:12 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Peace of mind is on the side of truth. All of us on both sides who are personally involved know what the truth is and in the end that is all that metters.

Anonymous said...

You said that "judging is not your job."

Wrong again. As a law enforcement officer it is my duty to uphold the law and report inconsistancies within the law enforcement operation.

There are some at the office who believe that laws are for crooks and if you are in law enforcement you are exempt from the title of crook no matter what you do as long as you have a badge.

I found it highly amusing and irritating at the same time when Eades posted the following on Redmonds Facebook page; "No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man's permission when we require him to obey it."

Many people had a good laugh over that one.

And WHO is this?

I've personally spoken to Phil Redmond and Mark Nicholson. I've never heard either man say anything negative towards the other. Only thing I've heard Nicholson say is that there needed to be a change at the top and he provided the reasons why. Redmond said that it was the citizens choice if he stayed or went and he felt like he had kept the election at a professional level. Kudos to both candidates.

Anonymous said...

Well if the poll on this blog is right Phil Redmond and Mark Nicholson will be neck to neck next Tuesday and that means a run off. What nobody can deny is that a heated race is a good race. This is a democracy and it is good that all of the candidates are pushed to actually campaign. I hope everybody can shake hands at the end of this race and agree that this kind of race is healthy for a democracy. May the best man win.

Anonymous said...

I agree that we need a good race, but keep it clean. This is not a bad mouth each other race. Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, and its our freedom to vote. I think that mark knows about the lies being spread, because one of them spreading them is his campaign manager. So Mr Smith, or as you like to be called Mr law enforcement, and the other five. Keep running your lies and Redmonds numbers will keep going up. No one likes a dirty campaign, theres a little advice

Anonymous said...

You are advocating a clean race. Then you accused a candidate of knowing about lies being spread and you accused his campaign manager of spreading the lies. Then you went off on someone named Mr. Smith. Then you accused him and others of being liars. Then you said nobody likes a dirty campaign.

Did I miss something?

Anonymous said...

I have never been in law enforcement but I have been around for many elections. This is the first time I have ever even blogged. But my age has also given me insight and wisdom to determine when things are not on the up and up. I have known Redmond for many, many years and even supported him in the past. At the first of his career I think he did a pretty good job. But as the years passed things begin to change. I agree that Redmond is a very intelligent man. But at the same time there has been on this blog and others that I have spoken verbally with, which have implemented some very serious allegations that would be almost impossible to MAKE UP. What many of you don't realize is that there are many eyes and ears all over this county, that are not in law enforcement, that are very much aware of activities that are going on which are very disturbing to me and alot of my friends of my generation. It's time for the citizens of Iredell County to stand up for what's right before there is nothing left to stand up for.

Around and about, which people dont know he is a hard working man just not at the sheriffs dept, but attending to a head of cattle. But of course go ahead and listen to the lies, because there being made up by the corrupt people. Call your local fbi agent and see how many times his life has been strained because of rumors. I and all of phillips friends are tired of all the bold face lies. We will show you at the polls, on tuesday. I wish this campaign were fair, but everything cant be with liars. Thanks for your time, and me and all the others will see you at the polls.

Fact: If you are "phillips friend" than you have to be either dumb as a rock or a liar yourself. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to stay around him.

By the way, when you helped on on the farm were the working inmates there that day? If you want to confirm that rumor, ask Judas Hepler. he drove them there at least one of those times.

I think it would be a pretty good idea to call all of the people in who are suspected of these activities, who say all of these allegations are lies, and give them a lie detector test, with an independant panel of citizens of Iredell County on looking, to settle these questions once and for all! If they have nothing to hide there is no reason to refuse the test but a way to clear their name and the name of their Sheriff. Then there would be no he said, she said...it would be on paper what they said as they were accountable to answer the questions. Would you be willing to stand behind your candidate and the allegated ones taking this step to settle it once and for all? I feel many people in Iredell County do not know the seriousness of this problem. It pays to stay alert and not ride on the coattails of others but think for yourself. Do you really feel that confident in your candidate Redmond and his existing inner circle?
