Public records obtained

A quick update: I recently returned home from the Mooresville Police Department, where I was able to look though the Cops for Kids files. I anticipate posting a blog entry later this evening.

Jamie, it looks like the coverup has already started. Tried to get on the town website and look at the Cops for Kids under the police department and IT'S GONE. It was there just two days ago when I showed it to somebody, and now it is nowhere to be found. This may prove to be a conspiracy and it may time to sit down with the Attorney General. I can't believe these people are dumb enough to engage in a coverup in broad daylight and right under the noses of the numerous people who are watching this unfold.

I take no joy in the investigation of Cops for Kids in Mooresville, but I do appreciate the efforts of the Gatton Report to expose improper behavior in government. The essence of government is to serve the people, not use the power for any type of personal gain. The sad part of this whole thing, is how much negative publicity it has brought on the department. The actions of some in the MPD have placed the department in this position, not the Gatton Report.I appreciate all of Mooresville's law enforcement community who protect us each day and obey the law they swore to uphold. I do feel though that we cannot ask men and women to serve in such a hazardous capacity while their superiors are embroiled in such a mess, therefore we must do what is best for the confidence of the public. I hope the commissioners will act to restore the confidence of the citizens of Mooresville should their be questionable activity in the Cops for Kids program. I also wait for more information regarding the records of Cops for Kids, but with alot less enthusiasm. The people should realize that this is a communitys worst nightmare, but maybe now we can wake up to "sunshine" in Mooresville.

I, for one, agree with the previous poster 100%. I have never had any problem with any police officer in Mooresville, and neither has anybody in my family or my friends for that matter. They have always been very professional and very helpful and many times cheerful. That is why it makes me especially mad to think that the actions of their police chief could actually give the whole police department a bad name. He ought to be ashamed of himself.

nice comment Sarah, you should be real proud of yourself.

Sarah, welcome to the Report. I can see your frustration, but trust me - it ain't the whole MPD that's the problem. It's Chief Crone and a couple of his Cronies. Having said that, don't let anybody muzzle you. That's what this blog is all about - unmuzzling the frustrated and the anxious.

I can't find the cops for kids on the town website anymore either. What the heck??? Can Crone get on there himself and take it off like that? If not, that means the town's IT guy had to do it. If the town's IT guy did it, that means his boss (town manager?) had to tell him to do it. So I agree we may be witnessing a conspiracy of coverup by town staff starting from the very top. But why would they risk this for Crone? None of this is making any sense. I would be terrified to participate in something like this, as would most people I know. What would possess these grown men (or women?) to put their careers and reputations (perhaps even their freedom?) on the line like this? It just seems crazy to me.

Sorry but just the fact that there's been a disappearing act on the website when it comes to Cops for Kids spells C-O-V-E-R-U-P. There is no way around that. And all you have to do to figure out who has been in on this is listen close and see who throws their weight behind him. Case closed.

If this is what I think it is Chief Crone should lose his job over this. He has fired people for less. Maybe we can get a community service oriented police chief to replace him and change the mentality of the Town Police force to being friendly and helpful.

Crone had a very good community officer that he fired-remember Burleyson. That guy was always smiling and had positive things to say about the other officers he worked with. I can't same the same for his supervisor-Mr Blocker. I had to call him to schedule Matt to do a program for some scouts and he was RUDE and kept trying to talk me out of Matt and into another officer. He must be the Chiefs only supporter there to let him fire Matt. Maybe he had other benefits that we are not aware of.

I hate to say this, but having worked in law enforcement for over 15 years, I don't expect that Jaime will find much in that file. I bet you John Crone and his Cronies went through that file as soon as Jaime went asking for it.. What's funny to me, is that the website, when it was up on Friday, said for more information, contact Carl Robbins... As if he were in charge of the program...
