With big escort, wounded Marine is coming home

Garrett Carnes is coming home.

More than 200 Patriot Guard motorcycle riders from North Carolina and Virginia are expected to escort the wounded Marine Corps corporal from Bethesda, Md. to Mooresville on Friday, as he comes home for the first time since being seriously injured in Afghanistan.

After his arrival downtown at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, estimated at about 6 p.m., there will be a welcoming ceremony and remarks by local dignitaries.

Carnes, a 2008 graduate of Mooresville High School, lost parts of both of his legs to an IED explosion during a military clean-up operation in Afghanistan in February.

We are getting some people together in Statesville for this.

I talked with a Highway Patrol Sgt. and he said that what I had in mind for the location would be fine. So, 4:30 at the Southbound exit ramp of I-77 and 21 North. Go up to Tomlin Mill, turn around and head South, get off at the next exit and pull off the side of the ramp.

Please make sure your vehicle is well off the roadway so that there is no traffic hazard. We will be gathering in the large grassy area towards the interstate, but not next to the road. This is a great opportunity to show your support and appreciation towards our military personnel and the sacrifices they endure when they represent our country.

What a great thing to honor this American Hero. To me it was a great event and I can only critize two things.

It should have been held at the high school stadium so everyone could see this young man and it would not have been people all cramed up together.

The last thing was Chris Carney there dressed up like a Patriot Rider. He would not make a pimple on a good Patriot Rider's ass.

WELCOME HOME YOUNG MAN, YOU ARE A GREAT HERO!!!!!

I thought Chris Carney drove a clown car. Someone should have kept the politicians running for office away from this. Period. In fact, the only one there, should have been the mayor giving this young man the key to the city.

Leave it to the politicians to spoil an otherwise good event.
