Tomorrow's the deadline for your Election 2008 questions

A quick reminder: if you have a question you want me to ask the candidates for District Attorney and/or the Iredell County Board of Commissioners, be sure to submit it by tomorrow, April 23. You can post it as a comment here, or e-mail it to jgatton@windstream.net

I plan to compile all the submitted questions and send them to the candidates by the end of this week. Then, I'll post the responses as they come in ...

Ask Jaime #5, #6, #7, #8, #9..........please ask the slimey sleazeball politicians the following (also please wear a face mask and gloves for your protection)...

What are you going to do to deal with the near gridlock traffic conditions?

How do you plan to control the rampant over development of our area?

Taxes continue to rise. Where does it stop?

What will you do to get our area our fair share of transportation dollars? (Am I the only one who wonders why there are 6 lane highways in BFE North Carolina but not in Mooresville-Davidson-Cornelius?)

Would you re-instate the death penalty?

Jaime...Sorry you asked yet?

Can you engage Fred Coggins in a rational and intelligent conversation that lasts for longer than 15 seconds? What a joke!!!

I liked the questions about "platforms" submitted on an earlier posting by you about this coming primary. Please follow up on some of those issues,
Thanks!

Tonight Cornelius approved the enormous project "The Village at Lake Norman". Does anyone ever say "NO" to a developer? Soon a helicopter will be the only way to get to Charlotte.

Word is out that Randy Marion is pretty much bankrolling his son-in-law, Grey Mills’s campaign. Here is the problem with that. Randy Marion’s name keeps creeping up in ways that gives one pause. Just to name a few: He’s been involved for years in all of that behind the scenes Chamber of Commerce outshoot groups like the SICDC and the EDC where they have used huge amounts of our tax dollars to stay in “the know” and for their own self-aggrandizement and networking. He also has been a major contributor to Bill Thunberg’s campaigns, and we all know that Thunberg was the breaking vote in the rotten cable deal that is only getting more rotten by the day. Marion was also one of the people in a posse of about seven who went all the way up to the local paper’s publisher to try and put a muzzle on the editor of that paper. Why? Because he was reporting on all the waste, mismanagement and theft in Mooresville. Now, I always thought we as true Republicans were supposed to want to shrink government and government spending, especially misspending. Since when did we start supporting government misspending and abuse of tax dollars? If indeed Marion has propped up his son-in-law to run, then this could be an indication of how Grey Mills will be, too, and you can count me out.

This is the "new" administation in Mooresville trying to gain influence in Raleigh. Everyone knows that Joe Knox had connections in Raleigh, hence the "never" investigated corruption in Mooresville. So I would like to hear the names of the folks who visited the publisher, if you can list them please. As for these double-standard republicans--we fight for less government in your lives-but in our lives we expect to benefit form our representation--idealism is just a word academe uses in a course--greed is our creed...

Sure, I can give you names. This was way back when all the scandals started breaking out and there was egg all over the faces of local officials. The names I know for a fact went up there were
Randy Marion,Joe Knox,Rick McLean,
Al Jones and Grady Shoe. I'm pretty sure that Mitchell Mack and Gene Brannon went up there too (they were commissioners), and I think Erskine may have gone, but couldn't swear to it. And I know for a fact that about a year after this little posse tried to flex its muscles Marion threatened the paper again, giving it some kind of "90-day ultimatum", that if they didn't stop their "negative" coverage and editorials (in other words reporting government waste and mismanagement), he was going to pull all his advertising. And the whole time he's thinking nobody in this community knows what he's up to and the kind of tactics he's used behind the scenes. This is the shadow government that his son-in-law will be a part of if he gets elected.

Hey, Truly Republican and Proud of it:

I hear ya. Marion scares alot of us out here. He throws his money around and buys power and sometimes silence with it. He's always dealing behind closed doors and he uses people to be his eyes and ears. I wouldn't vote for his son in law if he was the last Republican standing. Talk is cheap. Anybody can call themselves a conservative.

Wow....the corruption continues. Maybe this happens everywhere....maybe there are politicians being purchased by car dealers across our country. Maybe it's just not our little slice of America that's on the take....maybe. That's a depressing thought.

As for the cable deal....talked with a friend of mine in Huntersville who was watching the Braves tonight on cable....I insisted the game wasn't on. It turns out it's just not on the "People's Republic of Mooresville cable system".

Maybe I can call Rader later and get a score?

Perhaps Grey Mills is Marion's son-in-law. But Thunburg and Karen Ray are as thick as thieves. He backs her campaign, and her tactics are as dirty as his hands have been in local affairs. She is just mean. I vote conservative too, but she is only interested in her self and NASCAR, not Mooresville. At least Marion has a charitable spirit locally, even if he does throw his (wallet's) weight around. As a conservative, I'd take Mills any day, as I believe his actions are those of a conservative CHRISTIAN. Karen Ray does not act as if she has a Christian bone in her body, and seems to be the Raleigh piece of the Mayor's "good ole boy network". Again Grey Mills, despite his father in laws massive bankroll potential, least he seems to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.I believe he will look to do the "right" thing, and not just because NASCAR or Thunberg want him to do.
Look at Ray and Thunberg... there's the dirt.

Grey Mills? Nothing compared to the Republican commission candidates. Start with Brad Howard, who is nothing but an unwitting stooge for his father Rick. He calls himself a conservative, then proposes a four million dollar sales tax increase (while pandering for PAC money) before he even gets nominated. The local newspapers are clearly afraid of his father, so they never mention his tax proposal or the fact that he didn't even want to be a Republican until his father decided he needed to be a county commissioner. Never mind too, that loyal son Brad will be on the county board while his father asks for millions of dollars in utility and zoning deals for their Langtree development. Oh yeah, he's for the light rail, but only because it will help make his dad prouder and richer than he already is since he bought up all the property along the line. His only redeeming quality is that he screwed our old buddy Jimmy McKnight out of a big realtor’s fee, which is poetic justice. Maybe Howard could pay Mooresville taxpayers the fee he screwed McKnight out of, and all would be good in the world. That brings us to Houpe, the $200,000 man who sues the taxpayers when they catch him doing heavy lifting while collecting disability at the taxpayer's expense. Houpe is another party-switcher who became a Republican when he couldn’t get elected as a Democrat. Next up is Keadle, the carpetbagger from Rowan County, who sounds like the love child of Barry Goldwater (nuclear war, anyone?), and Bob Barr. He's obviously completely closed-minded about light rail, maybe because he's just too stupid to understand that we need retail and business growth, or maybe because he's jealous that he hasn't bought any land on the line. Keadle sends me plenty of mail, which is ironic since it features pictures of his mail-order bride. Last but not least, Robertson and Williams, the incumbents, have been presiding over the traffic mess that we all have to deal with, have done nothing whatsoever about it, and seem to be completely unapologetic about it when asked in the forums. Robertson seems to be a reasonably moderate and intelligent person, but even he turns stupid when it comes to real reform and progressive thinking. Don’t expect any transportation alternatives from these guys anytime soon. When did being a Republican begin to mean that you had to give up half your brain cells in favor of right wing hype? It would be nice to throw the bums out, but it will have to wait until the general election, since the three aforementioned stooges appear to be even worse. I hate to vote for Democrats, but something has to change soon or we are screwed. Politicians are scumbags.

Many politicians may be scumbags, but they should seek to uphold a higher standard- or atleast present that appearence, even if it is not the truth. Beverly purdue has figured this out, but I'll take McCrory over her any day,
In our local races it has infortunatly gottten much uglier thatn it needs to be. Knew this was coming from Karen Ray based on her prior history, and wasn't suprrised by her mailer bashing Grey Mills.
What I was shocked by was the dive into the depths of the mud pit by Allen Martin in his attempt to trash Sara Kirkman in the District Attourney race. I had been backing Martin until I saw the piece he mailed out. I had held him in higher esteem. I cannot support those running for office who believe that the winner is the one who can hold the opposition's head deeper in the swine pit. Iredell County politics are being dragged to the powest point ever by adds from Ray & Martin. It's a shame that they may actually win on portraying their opponants as villians vs. what should be a clear projection of theirselves and how they are the best choice.
Politics is ugly, and these ads represent the scumbag mentality that gets many politicians into office. 'Tis truly a shame to prey on fear and prejudice instead of hope and constructive debate of the real issues.

Just for the record, Mr./Ms. Anonymous, my wife has university degrees in engineering and marketing. She is a self-made millionaire, and she speaks four languages fluently. Most importantly, she is a good person and a good mother. Regardless, I'm left to wonder who the scumbag is here.

Just watched a Grey Mills ad where he was insinuating that his opponent is evil because she voted for Black and it turned out he was corrupt. That's kind of the pot calling the kettle black, since his own father in law, who everybody knows is in one way or another footing the bill for his campaign, has also used his money to put a lid on the exposure of corruption right here in Mooresville. I just think if Mills is gonna point a finger, he ought to be sure it's not gonna end up pointing at himself, but that's just me thinking out loud.
