Mooresville voters spoke decisively today in its two contested town-board races.
Results of the town's at-large-commissioner race were perhaps the most surprising of the night: David Coble swept the seat, ousting Incumbent Rhett Dusenbury by a vote of almost 2:1. Coble garnered 1,012 votes to Dusenbury's 560.
Mac Herring will spend a third term in his Ward 3 seat, despite being challenged by Frank Owens, a retired police captain who spent two terms as an at-large town commissioner before being voted out of office in 2005. Herring received 378 votes to Owens' 261.
Miles Atkins ran unopposed for mayor, which means he will hold his seat for another two years.
Ward 4 Commissioner Lisa Qualls also ran unopposed, which secures her four more years on Mooresville's town board.
Meanwhile, Greg Whitfield and Leon Pridgen won the two uncontested seats on the Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education.

I'd like to thank those who served and those who ran. I'd like to congratulate Mooresville on making excellent choices and thank Jaime for keeping all of us informed.
More people should read the Gatton Report, and more should vote, but, this is Mooresville.
I'll echo the thanks to Jaime for having this site and for posting the stories of the past few days leading up to the election.
I would enjoy knowing how many visitors come here with the curiosity of how much of an impact this type of reporting had on the vote and turnout.
Local politics is often disregarded, but it can be so very important. I see yesterday's election as an eye-opener for people who were got caught in the tea-party fervor, opnly to realize these people offer no real solutions, only negativity. Perhaps Mooresville and south Iredell, while obviously still Repub, may not be as one-sided as people think.
It may be well worth it for the Dusenbury's and Owens' of the world to realize, they need to take a more open and sane approach if they want to have their opinions valued.
Thank you, Frank, for drawing attention back to yourself. Now, maybe the Feds will start looking into your bad acts again. Let the games begin.
Oh, and 363 days until we vote for sheriff, can't wait. Redmond blows!
Way to go Leon Pridgen. Edwards has another yes man on the skoo board
Larry wishes you'd post your name :)
You won. Congratulations. Get ready for the SAID bonds which will put the town in financial jeopardy along with the road bond and MI-Connections. Higher taxes are on the way.
Larry the voters have spoken. We do not want an incompetent , uneducated and non trustworthy person to be our elected official representing our ward. Owens has proven himself to be a magnet for scandal because and we have moved past that.
Speaking of Redmond, he was on the CMA's last night. Looks like hell. Looks like he was rode hard and put up wet. Calling himself Kenny Rogers these days. I was not fooled.
As I sit back in my retired chair, I see myself laughing at the outcome of the recent election. I find myself wondering what Owens was thinking about. Did he really think that the voters of Mooresville were stupid and ignorant or just one of the two. He not only got beat but percentage wise very handily. Who voted for him? Surely not all the people who had signs in their yards or he would have won by a landslide. Also, I hear of all the people that were in support of both Mac and David Coble. I have heard that every town board member except one was at the victory party. There were several ex board members there in support of Mac and David. I find that Mooresville voters and citizens finally figured out what Mr. Owens had to offer. It is my understanding that even the school board members were pulling for Mac. Is he not employed by them? I applaud Mooresville for standing up for what I consider to be the best choices. I hope that now Mr. Owens faces reality that not everyone in Mooresville is two faced or maybe they were. However, they chose to make the right decision not to employ someone that does measure to the standards of the true majority who voted against him. WAY TO GO MOORESVILLE.
Is it rumor or fact that his own family did not support him?
Referring to 4:52
Mac is not employed by a school system. I am not sure about Frank Owens employment. I thought he was retired. However, if Owens does work for the school then why would they not support him? Does anyone know Owens employment or non-employment?
Why did the paper seem to support Owens? They certainly lost what little credibility they had left with me.
4:52, I missed the CMA's last night. Was Redmond showing his chains and chest hair? LOL, LOL.
Larry,
Please explain how SAID bonds will put the town in financial jeopardy.
Crickets from Larry.
Oh my goodness, Larry? I thought you'd moved away. Hope you and yours are well. Thank you for reminding us that the sky is falling.
I was hoping that since neither Frank or Rhett won, Larry would just go away! Just how many flushes until he does go away?
Larry works in Statesville- does financial investments for folks. Frankie ran in the arguement that we need to be more like Statesville. Statesville is dying- it has no economic growth except jobs at Wal-Mart. Larry wants to help them loose their money too. He and Frankie are obsolete just like Statesville... Lifeless and stuck with their heads underground. Mooresville has voted to keep moving ahead and has left them in the dust. May they rest in peace and take Mr. Dusenbury them- and perhaps in the Spring the reawakened voters of Iredell County will do the same with Renee Griffith and Steve Johnson who flaunt Tea Party politics to the detriment of all Iredell citizens-
Mooresville is leading a new dawn for the future of Iredell County!
I found Mr. Herring's comments in the paper about MI-Connection no longer being a political albatross humorous. He better count his lucky stars that he didn't have a real credible opponent.
I feel sorry for Dusenbury. That guy really cared but didn't have any experience working with a board.
Coble seems like Carney reincarnate with an extra dash of liberal and 5lbs of body fat. We all saw how well that worked out.
Wow. Someone is angry their world view was rejected overwhelmingly by the voters.
An extra dash of Liberal? This sounds an awful lot like the guy who claimed there was a 'progressive majority' on the Town Board :)
Why don't you 'Republicans' tell the truth? You're a mixture of Libertarians, Racists and the Morale Majority, all claiming to be members of 1000's of Tea Parties and invading the Republican Party like a bunch of roaches. You don't want to pay taxes, you don't want a Black President (or to see a Black face on the Andy Griffin show) and you want to tell Mary what she and her doctor can do and stand outside the church and throw rocks at Bill and Jim when they get married. Be honest. At least the Klan, hiding behind their hoods and police and sheriff's badges played at honesty.
The Soviet threat is gone and so is the Republican Party's big draw. We don't need a military 25 times stronger than our nearest competitor. We need a strong economy, which means stronger consumers, not a stronger 1%. Consumers spend and drive production. The 1% drives investment in companies that export jobs and bank profits abroad.
In order to make consumers stronger, and fix the economy, we need Food Stamps, Health Care, Education and JOBS.
Labor Rate Based Import Tariff Duties on the products produced abroad in the countries that offer slave labor to American Companies that pay lobbyists to preach that 'Free Trade' can exist between countries that don't share a common standard of living. Free Trade can exist between America and Germany; not between America and Vietnam (with a $1.50 a day labor rate).
You don't have a solution. Your Party wants power so that it can continue to destroy the progress that's been made in this country; work to eliminate what taxes the rich still pay.
Lowering taxes is your answer for everything. That and screaming and yelling insults. You have nothing.
People in Mooresville figured something out. Maybe just that we have to talk. Maybe that's a start.
lol how many people live here. 1012 votes to 560 thats not an election its a joke
