Former commissioner hoping for return to town board

Does the name Frank Owens ring a bell?

The former Mooresville commissioner - who served two terms on the town board before losing his seat to Frank Rader in 2005 - wants back in.

Owens announced yesterday he plans to seek Mac Herring's Ward 3 seat this November.

You can bank on the town's purchase of MI-Connection being a major talking-point in Owens' campaign. Not only was the former police captain ousted in 2005 by Frank Rader, who became MI-Connection's loudest cheerleader (and was later voted out of office himself), but Mac Herring - who currently holds the Ward 3 seat - voted in favor of the town's purchase of the system. Herring was re-elected to his seat four years ago, despite his vote.

For more on this news, check out the Mooresville Tribune.

Let's hope and pray that we have more interested in running, Not that Mr. Owens isn't a good person just not a good Commissioner.

There is a reason why he lost his seat, ask him If he's honest you will know why.

Sorry for the anonymous posting but it needs to be that way. I'm too close to be other wise

Hope someone good runs against Rhett.

Is there anyone in this god-forsaken town and county with clean hands and good intentions?

I just cannot wait until the Donald moves onto Lake Norman. That ought to be just a laugh a minute. Things around here are not a big enough circus.

Some people just never learn. Frank Owens is like a kid who you have to keep putting in Time Out!

Why do some people in Mooresville always wants to get rid of commissioners who are actually trying to help the taxpayers. Rhett has done a fine job doing just that. Also Frank Owens will do an outstanding job protecting the town's interest and the taxpayer. All I've seen of Mac Herring is spend, spend, spend, tax, tax, tax and bigger government. If not for his vote on MI-Connections our property tax could have been cut by 28 cent per hundred.

Remember that Herring did not have anyone running against him the last election and that is the reason he won.
If anyone had ran against him he would have lost like the other three did.

OMG you people will not let go of the MI connection. its now making money and has brought companies to town because of its bandwith. Frank owens has bad history that is why he lost in first place. If he was investigated you would find someone with out ethics. Mac is good man who has worked hard for the city. None of you do anything but complain. Dont see frank helping out or showing up to importing issues. this town is better off then most. you worry so much about taxes and where the money goes. the city is growing that is where the money is going. you need services to go along with growth. see how many people are in town this weekend with the soccer tournment. hotels will be full and we get the hotel tax. our board is doing a good job. not great but good. we are not bankrupt. a lot of cities are. we have fortune 50 company here and the national suprentendent of the year running our schools. I'm sure you have complain for him also. Frank Owens is bad to the bone. His run will expose him for what he is worth. it is not for the betterment of Mooresville.

What companies has that expensive, over-priced albatross brought to town? Read the news lately? Cable, satellite, all of that are on their way out. Going the way of the dinosaurs.

No only is Mooresville and Davidson on the hook for the $92 million loan the town of Mooresville to date has given additional $14.24 million the past 3 years and more will be given this year. We could have had a $.28 property tax decrease. This is enough reason to get rid of Mac.

I have $14.24 million reasons to get rid of Mac. This is how much money we have given to MI and we will have to give more. That works out to $.28 per 100 property tax DECREASE.

This all the town needs is a commissioner who was investigated by the FBI for public corruption.

I am supprised the Mackers have not came out of the woodwork.

Someone should investigate how the deal was worked out for Mac's friends on Wiggins Road to buy 12 acrea and 45 acres for $3,000 an acre from the lands that will be the new industrial park. This was well below value and Mac and the buyers are tight. I smell something rotten. This land had road frontage on Wiggins Road for that price. Mac Brokered the deal to keep a certain family from protesting the development while giving them an awesome steal on real property.
