Compton and Alexander advance to the November election

The primary-election results are in, and Bobby Compton - former Town of Mooresville Fire Marshal - took the top spot for the at-large commissioner seat with 406 votes.

Robert "Skip" Alexander, a former FBI agent, came in second with 297 votes.

Both men will now advance to the Nov. 8 general election.

Seven candidates were seeking the at-large seat. The other five candidates included Dawn Huston, who received 47 votes, while William H. Washburn III garnered 23. David Roueche collected 21 votes, James Snyder received 17, and Raymond R. Gordner III collected 9.

Altogether, 820 people showed up to the polls today to cast their votes.

Full results can be found on the Iredell County Board of Elections webpage.

Just goes to show. It's not what you know but who you know. The old boy network in Mooresville will win everytime. Good luck Bobby.

Kudos to all the candidates. It's no easy decision to put yourself and even your family out in the public to be scrutinized. Thank you for showing that you cared enough about the Town to at least try.
Grats to Bobby and Skip.
Now the fun begins?

Today at the polls at the War Memorial I have never met such a more conceited, self centered individual than Skip Alexander. He is a very aggorant and obnoxious person that there are.'
This is one man that I do not want to be one of our leaders. To hear him brag on his self you would think that he should be in Washington instead of Mooresville. I did not go into vote for either him or Compton but you can be sure that Bobby Compton has my vote in November.

Anonymous said...

How many registered voters in Mooresville? 17,000 maybe? That puts voter participation at just over 2% (820/17000), ouch.
Anyone surprised by the two that advanced? Pretty much who I had expected, you?

Anonymous said...

I agree with 9:23, Skip was actually my first choice 4 weeks ago. But, after talking to him and hearing him a couple times, I've changed my mind. Maybe he is super focused and in the moment, but he doesn't seem like someone that will be able to comprimise. He seems like a my way or the highway kind of personality. Although there will be times that may be an asset, I'm not getting the vibe that he can switch gears. Like I said, maybe he's just caught up in the moment. Any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

Well looky here, looky here. Ol' Skippy boy has a following!
I thought Bobby bein from Old Mooresville would rake in at least 75% of the votes. I do believe the winds of change are at hand. Bout damn time.

Anonymous said...

820 whole votes. Pathetic. Well, my conscience is clean. I went out in the rain and exercised my civic duty.

No wonder this town is in the crapper. I can only hope more people turn out in November and send a message. What was the turnout lat year? 12%? No wonder we get stuck with slimeballs like Redmond and Montgomery.

The crap that has been going on will continue to go on unless we are involved and engaged. Hell, we're already invested. They're throwing OUR investment around like confetti.

Anonymous said...

Glad to see that some others are seeing Skippy's arrogance. I don't think that other opinions will matter to him if he gets in. He is too self important to give consideration to any other thoughts.

Anonymous said...

Pathetic turn out indeed, but at least we got two good candidates out of it at the end of the day.

I will be putting my support behind Bobby Compton.

WOW,Someone else put their name to something,There must have been alot of confusion, with so many Anoymous voting.

Larry Gregory said...

No one will vote so you get what you deserve, like MI Connections. No one would even run against Carney and Herring last time and they stuck us with this problem. Other problems are the high water and sewage rates, funding of the golf course, the pay and benefits of the government workers which are not on par with the taxpayers and the over $15 million in reserves the town has that is the taxpayers money. This could be used to cut property taxes. If you don't vote, you can't complain.

Anonymous said...

I am glad that the high and mighty Skippy has finally shown his colors. You can bet that he will try to impress you with his importance and continually remind you that he is a retired (retarded) FBI Special Agent and will threaten you that he can monitor your email traffic because of his FBI conections. Remember to tell all about him and support Bobby Compton in the general election. We cannot have this pompous idiot serving in this town.

Several years ago our town board voted to waste $96 Million dollars to buy a bankrupted cable company. This would have never happen if Carney,Rader, and Herring had not voted for it, it was a tie and our supposedly great Mayor Bill Thunberg cast the breaking vote and we were in debt for generations to come. He helped rape this town for years to come of their hard earned money.

Last night on Channel 3 there was a story about Duke Power wanting a 20% rate increase. Hundreds of people there protesting it. Then on the screen was BILL THUNBERG saying this was a good idea, now he wants the people of Mooresville and the State of North Carolina to spend more about $18.00 a month.

I will never go into his store again and I hope that everyone else would do the same.

Anonymous said...

Does Bobby Compton have a web site or a FB page or some way that we can contact him to ask questions about where he stands on issues?

Anonymous said...

THUNBERG, GET OUT OF MY POCKETBOOK!!!! GET IT FROM RADER

Anonymous said...

What store is Thunberg's?

Anonymous said...

Bill Thunberg is a cheap SOB, but he's never had any trouble spending other people's money.

BTW, he runs that jewelry store downtown Mooresville. Think it's called Zachary Jewelers. I bought something from him several years ago for about two grand. Went to get it appraised last year, and they wouldn't even appraise it because they said they don't appraise anything under $500. Boy did he take ME for a fool!

Anonymous said...

Its actually called Alexander Zachary Jewelers. And I had a similar experience with his "jewelry".

Anonymous said...

Who the hell can afford jewelry? No worries, I'll never set foot in that bastard's store. 2:43, I hope you reported him to the BBB.

Anonymous said...

Just remeber in two years, don't forget who voted for the cable, Rader, gone, Thunberg gone. and then remember Carney and Herring, they need to be next.

Anonymous said...

You better believe Dumberg is still behind the scenes trying to control and manipulate. Anybody running for office right now has or will soon find that out for themselves. Just remember when the temptation arises to go along with his diabolic schemes disguised as well-intentioned plans, there will eventually be a price to be paid.

Anonymous said...

I just googled Bobby Compton, seriously, how does one communicate with this guy or read about his stance on issues? I'm not finding anything.

Anonymous said...

can't believe that dude only got 9 votes. Damn if you don't know at least 10 people you shouldnt have even ran.

Anonymous said...

compton works at the funeral home on E plaza. i think that the same dude. cavin and cook.704-664-3363

Anonymous said...

Oh, greeeeaaaat! Isn't that the same Cook who was one of the signers of the infamous letter of support for the former police chief who was corrupt as hell? I think that whole story's on this blog somewhere too. So Bobby Compton now is working for him?

Anonymous said...

He does not work at the Funeral Home any longer.

Not trying to be smart but his number is in the windstream phone book.

Anonymous said...

You have hit the nail right on the head, 3:01 P.M. Except in addition to getting in the ears of prospective elected officials, the ousted mayor is also able to do much damage in his role on the Chamber of Commerce, as well as a subsidiary of the Chamber known as SICDC.

Anonymous said...

Its my info that he found out certain things about certain people there and that is why he is no longer works there so don't start that. Some times it takes a while to find out anything. Has not worked there in a long while.

On channel 3 11 o'clock news last night it appeared that ex-mayor Bill Thunberg was endorsing the 20% rate hike that Duke Power is requesting. Go to the WBTV web site and see for yourself. If so, Bill do you not think the people of Mooresville has been screwed enough with the high property taxes, the extremely high water and sewage rates and of course your tie breaking vote MI Connections?

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't Bobby Compton have a web page or a FB page? I would think that would be a wise move in this day and age. I see Skip has a blog with no real entries and a FB page with no posts and 2 likes. Surely Bobby can do better.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if a former FBI agent might be able t dig into some of the corrurption going on in the town or is this not a legitimate question?

Anonymous said...

I just took another look at the photo of the fat cats/good old boys on the town web site. Throw the bums out. I am voting for Miles Atkins but the rest of them can go. Buh-bye.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully Mitch will be gone.... Maybe his free ride on the towns check will finally come to an end. I wonder how he has lived this long unemployed without something funny going under the table. Hopefully all his shady deals will come out in the open.

Anonymous said...

Question about the next public forum, will the public be allowed to ask questions or is it just going to be like the last one?

Anonymous said...

Forum will be the same format as the last one. Have questions, call the Chamber of Commerce and submit them.

Anonymous said...

You can rest assured that you can send all the questions that you want but they WILL NOT be asked. The questions will be made from ideas by the Chamber Office Staff that will favor their choice of candidate. The only fair way to do it is to have the folks that come to the forum to write down their questions and put them in a bowl and then let a person draw one and then you have to answer that one.
Remember the Chamber is made up of people like Thunberg,Carneys brother and others do I need to say more.
Again it won't be fair.

Anonymous said...

You are right 5:30
At the debates for President their questions are being asked by live video or from the audidence. Why can't we have the same thing here in Mooresville.
Oh thats right this is Mooresville where everything is done under handed so the public does not have a true voice in what goes on.

Anonymous said...

Mitch's underhanded deals hopefully will come to haunt him in his race for re-election.

The best thing that could come out of the November elections is Mitch would be thrown out.

Too bad no one tars and feathers anymore because Mitch in another time in our history would look like big bird.

Anonymous said...

Well, with no live questions from the audience, it's just kind of a dog and pony show, isn't it? I think there are people here who want to hold their feet to the proverbial fire and I think some real substantial questions should be asked. We may get some idea of where they stand but it really not worth much.

Anonymous said...

Not even an answering machine at the Compton number. I feel our votes slipping away...

Anonymous said...

Maybe Skip ought to stick to running for sheriff. God knows, we need someone there who will root out the dirt.

Michelle Baucom said...

A persons character is very important. Do we really know the character of Mr Compton? I believe some of Mooresville does. We need to ask him about infidelity, jail time, honesty, etc. Don't we want someone that we can trust, not just someone that we "know"?

Anonymous said...

So, the corrupt (I should say VERY corrupt) Chamber of Commerce is now in control of the debate? Oh yes, that will give a warm fuzzy feeling to everybody, I am sure.

Anonymous said...

11:37, so who do you propose? Bobby Compton? Do you know Bobby? Have you ever heard even a peep out of him the entire thirty or whatever number of years he's been a townie? Has he ever stood up for or against anything? Bobby goes along to get along. That's what Bobby's good at.

Problem is that Skip Alexander denies there's been any corruption in this town. That's so out of touch that there are really no words for it. It shows he either never picked up a newspaper or he did and then drew the wool over his own eyes. And we have certainly seen SBI and FBI do that in this town in the past so it's not surprising that one of their own would now do the same.

Face it, people, you got piss poor choices for your At-Large seat. Whoever gets in, you'll just have to ride like crazy. Either they do the right thing, or they too will get the boot.

Anonymous said...

11:38 are you saying Bobby has been a cheat and has been in jail? Kindly explain.

Anonymous said...

Still no answer at the Compton number. He got the votes now he's the invisible man.

Anonymous said...

It would be nice if he had a FB page or email address. Or even voice mail.

Anonymous said...

I hope you all voted in the primary and had your friends vote as well- if not, stop complaining over your choices. There were several candidates that could have brought change to the board- however, they did not have the votes. Bobby and Skip were able to get out the vote.

In addition, I am hoping the negativity I am seeing already against Bobby is not being engineered by Skip- he has already proven to be a candidate with a hidden agenda- what more mud will he sling against this opponent?

Anonymous said...

I agree with 12:12 PM...these two are "six or one half dozen". We wait until one gets elected and then we hold their feet to the fire as we have with others who have gotten on the town board in recent years. I have lived in Mooresville all of my life and now I have grandchildren living here. I love this town and I could dance a jig for how much it has changed. It used to be that if King Knox didn't decree it it didn't happen. Now it looks more like people are running this town instead of any one man.

Anonymous said...

Skip probably doesn't even know Bobby's history. You could probably ask his wife or better, his first wife.

Anonymous said...

Is there some sort of checkered history or isn't there? If you are going to slander someone, kindly provide the proof to back it up. Has he been in jail? Is he a cheat? Let's hear it. Put up or shut up. The future of this town is at stake.

Anonymous said...

Not exactly on topic here but maybe kinda. I'm sure many of you got a lovely little piece of mail from the town signed by Erskine Smith hisself inviting you to take out a water line warranty with some company at a mere $4.25/month. I did not read all the crap but I'm sure it contained glowing reviews of the latest company that the town has crawled into bed with and is paying our money out to and I'm sure Smith and others are getting kickbacks from. It's in the trash with the crap from supper so I'm not fishing it out. Y'all have fun.

In other words, the water lines here are shitty and are probably going to blow any day now. Good luck with that fools. I've seen these utility warranty scams before. They ain't worth a diddly damn. Coming on top of the Ryland Homes EPA lawsuit thing on the news the other night, well, la-dee-dah, water here in this damn town is probably eating through our damn lines as I type.

$4.25 times how many accounts? On top of our already high rates? Yeah, I'm already on top of that.

Anonymous said...

We got that today too. I'm wondering what the hell? It's $44 if you pay for the entire year at once so you save a whopping 7 bucks and I have to wonder what big ole golf junket did Smith get taken on where they came up with this load of crap? Oh, if you pay this and your water lines go, they come and pay for a plumber and dig up your sidewalk and all that happy crap. Damn right, if the city lines go, the city better pay. I'm thinking if my kid throws Tickle Me Elmo down the can this is not going to pay for it.

Just another MI scam if you ask me.

Anonymous said...

Bobby bobby bobby. Please let us know how to contact you

Anonymous said...

Here's the big credibility problem with Erskine Smith. I and many others become suspicious as soon as we hear his name associated with anything. I immediately imagine him sidled up half drunk at a bar in some hotel we're paying for him to stay at, cooking up the next scam. Big problem. Hard to get much through when everybody automatically starts guarding their billfolds because they know a pickpocket's nearby.

Anonymous said...

Hell, the election isn't even over and Old Weasel Face is trying to get into our wallets again. Guess he's trying to set up his severance package.

My cousin and his wife live up by Toledo in Yankeeland and paid into one of those utility warranty plans. I believe they paid $19.95/month on their gas bill for coverage on all their gas appliances, furnace, stove, and dryer and when they had their stove break down, the "great and wonderful" company that they'd paid into for probably 15 years came out and said the stove couldn't be fixed and gave them $50 towards a new one because that was all the old was worth after pro-rating it. These companies are a freaking racket.

Anonymous said...

8;39, that would be hysterical if it probably wasn't so damn true. Erskine Smith is such a whore that all he's missing is the fishnet stockings and a big red garter belt.

Now there's a mental picture. Unfortunately, it's OUR money he's trolling the gutter for.

Anonymous said...

Here's a stupid question. If the town water line breaks under the sidewalk, how is that my responsibilty? If the cheap, shoddy workmanship of the slimeballs Smith hires falls apart, why should we pay for it?

Anonymous said...

Damn you, 8:53, I spit ice tea all over myself. I think we ought to just go ahead and string up flashing red neon lights up at the town hall so every flim flam scam artist that comes down the pike knows exactly where to stop.

Anonymous said...

OK, selling off the town metaphors aside, we put you in, Bobby, now where are you? Selling us out like the weasel now that you're in?

Anonymous said...

Skipper isn't too easy too reach either. So it appears there is not going to be any change, transperancy, or accountabilty any time soon, folks. The only ones making ut here are the pimps.

Anonymous said...

They are already circling the wagons. The main reason we are stuck with that damn weasel is he can't get a job anywhere else and he probably has compromising information on everyone else. Like someone said photos of the powers that be with farm animals or something just as seedy. You can just bet that's why the candidates are scarce. Lying cheating bastards all of 'em.

Anonymous said...

I'm not voting for anyone who doesn't even have an answering machine. If I can't reach you even by pony express, then I guess my vote is just not that important so you are not important either. I looked up his phone number online and there isn't even a street number just a street name so I can't even really mail a letter now can I? You want public office, you better be prepared to deal with the public. Just saying...

Anonymous said...

Bobby and Erskine have been friends for years! They go to "church" together and have been neighbors.

Anonymous said...

third time is the charm...so I will ask again...How many of you armchair politicians threw your hat into the ring for mayor or at-large? what is that I hear? ....crickets.

Anonymous said...

I would imagine that water line they are talking about is the one from the street to your house, which you do have to pay for if there is a problem because it is on your property.

Found this on the candidate filing list from http://www.co.iredell.nc.us/Departments/Elections/forms/CANDIDATE_FILING_OCTOBER_11_2011.pdf.
Bobby Compton: PO Box 862 Mooresville, NC 28115 704-664-5059
Skip Alexander: 1024 Muirfield Dr Mooresville, NC 28115 704-662-9155

http://www.wsicweb.com/files/2011%20Contestants.pdf has Bobby's address as 245 Glenwood Dr Mooresville NC 28115 Skip is the same.

Anonymous said...

If Bobby and Smith are friend's then it's just going to be more of the same. We've been had. No wonder he won't answer his phone. He's probably over having beers with the weasel.

Maybe Skip is the guy to vote for.

Anonymous said...

Throwing a hat in the ring is hardly the issue. Ask the folks that got under 10-20 votes. The issue is simply, how our money is being spent and who is spending it. These people are spending our money and they are, like it or not, accountable to us. I have never attended a commissioners meeting but I am going to remedy that and I am going to start speaking up as soon as I possibly can.

We are reinforcing their behavior by not questioning it and by not demanding that they answer to us. It's that simple. 820 people came out and spoke for everyone. I went out. How many of you did?

Anonymous said...

I think it is an issue. Sitting at your computer complaining anonymously will not likely change a thing. However, getting involved in government and creating change will.

Anonymous said...

Most people can't afford to run a campaign. That may be an issue.

That said, I just glanced through the Mooresville Weekly. I see Skip credited and Compton with running a "respectful campaign." As opposed to what Skip did, I suppose that's true, although I'm not sure Skip is the only guilty party in that little soiree, right Jared? Then it went on to say that Compton could not be reached for comment. No kidding.

This is what we are going to get from now on. Arrogance and silence. More of the same.

We are our own best advocates, people, and unless we stand up for ourselves, we are going to continue to get the Smiths, Houstons, Abrahams, Montgomerys, and so on.

That bastard Smith didn't even wait until after the election to send out a mailing for yet another scheme and you know there are going to be plenty of little old ladies and men who will fall for it. OMG, what happens if the pipes break? You just know he got some big old bonus at some golf tournament with some mucky-muck from this company.

What's next? Anytime I see the word, "developement" I just know we're going to get screwed over.

Anonymous said...

I called Bobby Comptons home phone number and there was no answer but the recording came on to leave a message and I did and the called was returned a couple of hours later.
Guess Skippy just trying to start a false hood about his opponent.

Anonymous said...

The answering machine is new then because I called 3-4 times and got nothing so I will try again. I have not tried Skip yet. We'll see.

Half the population goes by anonymous. No one wants to do time in whatever prison camp you end up in for violating the rules of the thought police.

I'd have to agree with 11:19. At the very least, you're likely to get trash thrown on your grass for making trouble, seems to me.

Anonymous said...

Ever thought people have a life other than sitting at home waiting on YOU THE SPECIAL PERSON to call. Possible he is out of town, after all this is the weekend why not wait till Monday or Tuesday and give him a call, I can only imagine how important your call is Skippy Jr.

Anonymous said...

Wow aren't we defensive? My vote is just as important as anyone elses and I guess if Bobby wants our votes he should be willing to talk to us. I believe candidate Huston came on this blog and invited people to contact her as did Esselman. If you want to play in the public playground, that's the way it is. I am not casting my vote blind. Case in point, I called Thurman Houston awhile back before this election ever started and he never returned my calls. Therefore he will not be getting my vote. Mr. Hendrix has been in contact. He will get my vote. It's pretty simple really. I'm an informed consumer. These guys are going to be making decisions for us and spending our money. I think we are entitled to 5 minutes of their time.

Anonymous said...

In case any of you haven't noticed, this isn't Mayberry and that lardass running the show up in the town hall isn't Andy Taylor. And gee whiz, Aunt Bee, when I have to shell out a few grand to those clowns up there every year and I want some accountability for it and some guy wants my vote, hell, I guess I have a right to call and ask.

I've lived in cities and counties where everyone in management and in an elected position had a listed phone number and knew it was part of the job that they were going to get calls and that was part of the deal. Of course, that was before email and back when people behaved more like they did at Snappy Lunch, but you run for office you are there to SERVE the public.

Anonymous said...

The only people the manager and some of the commissioners are srevingvare themselves and that's the point. This has been going on and we've been screaming about it for how long now? We are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Mrs. Gatton, I hope you invite both of these gentlemen to comment. I note that mr Esselman promiesed to get back within 24 hours on a previous blog post and fell down on that promise but some of us are taking THIS election damn serious and we want to hear from these guys and not some cookie cutter questions at some candy ass forum either.

Anonymous said...

Esselman responded to the post that he said he would. He made no promises to respond to any posts after that.
I think after they are elected they will be given a town Email address.
I would agree that they should be available to the public even if they are just running for office. Hopefully they realize what they're getting in to.

Anonymous said...

Wonder if Jared went over and glad-handed the few "Occupy Mooresvllle" protesters over by the War Memorial this afternoon? They looked to be about his age but I suspect the similarities end there.

At least 3 or 4 people were involved in this town today. I'll bet they would be willing to talk to the public. They stood up.

Like it or not, we have a lot in common with those folks. We are being sold out by Smith and the board and it's about time we take our town back and have the people who work for us answer to us.

Michelle B said...

How did your convo go with Bobby?

Jim said...

Let's hope for a full house on Tuesday night.

I see pluses and minuses of both mayoral candidates but the back and forth bickering on this site really gets old.

Folks, anonymous name calling is easy. C'mon out and hear what all of the candidates have to say and then make an educated choice about what's important to you on Election Day.

It's unfortunate they aren't accepting questions from the audience but at least we'll finally hear from the candidates.

See you Tuesday night....

Jim

Anonymous said...

From what I hear, there was some kind of advertised "open to the public" budget meeting last week with commissioners and town management....you know how many residents showed up?

TWO.

Anonymous said...

I think, frankly, that people are afraid to speak up in public. Look at what has happened to the ladies with the birdbath. If you speak up and the people in charge don't like it, what happens? Do you get pulled over for the least little infraction? If I forget to put my seatbelt on when I run to CVS to pick up aspirin, am I going to get a ticket because I said something at a public meeting that Smith or the commissioners didn't like? I've heard stories of people who got hassled during the Cops for Kids thing.

I guess some of us are trusting that these crackpots are reading this stuff and maybe taking a warning from it but who can say?

I'm seeing some mean stuff being done to people in this town and it's being done to people who make themselves visible in one way or another. Tossing trash back at a couple of older women is just out of line and it is making a statement to all of us. It's not right but it makes a statement, doesn't it? This is why people don't show up. They don't want to end up like that.

Anonymous said...

It's a shame that most of the people just don't care and others that do are just plain afraid to speak up. Doesn't speak well of this town does it?

Anonymous said...

I'm hoping that the candidates that get in are civic minded enough to take responsibility for all of us and our money and to look out for all of our well-beings. What's been going on here is not right and it's not good for this town. We deserve better, a lot better. I hope Bobby and the other candidates are reading this. It's not about them. It's about us and it's about Mooresville and our future. Right now it doesn't look good.

Anonymous said...

October 15, 7:25, Esselman did promise, as I recall to answer questions, then ducked out when things got hot. Now in light of the revelations about his ambitions to replace the manager (hence his "disappearance" when the questions ran to what he would do about Smith and employees who abuse town assets) I'd say that this explains his sudden reluctance to interact with us on this blog. Gee, imagine what might have happened if his little "copy and paste term paper" had come out then?

And while I'm on the subject of copying, I learned in first grade that you're not supposed to copy anything-ever. I would think they frown on that at Harvard.

Anonymous said...

I would like to invite comments to this question and in 24 hours I will repost with my response.

I copied and pasted that (oh no) from the blog archive...August..."Esselman kicks off mayoral campaign"

You may notice that it says "this" question, not "these" questions.
And, as he stated, he came back about 24 hours later and the question had been answered.

Granted there were other questions and people complaining that he was not responding to anything else. But, he never claimed he would. Maybe he doesn't read it anymore, maybe jumping into an argument with the 8 of us that post, is not in his best interest right now, maybe he's busy, maybe he's got better things to do, I don't know.
Go to his website and ask him a question, I think he has a facebook page, I think the signature in the blog post I mentioned at the beginning is a link to him as well.
Take all the shots at him you want, but you should drop the one about not responding in 24 hours to that question about signs, because he did exactly what he said he was going to do.

Anonymous said...

In all honesty I think he saw it for what it was, and decided not to waste his time.

Anonymous said...

Really? Harassing citizens doemt merit an answer in a public forum? Can't take the heat.

Anonymous said...

Guess they don't teach how to copy and paste that at Harvard.

Anonymous said...

anyone else had a comment "removed"?
I had a reply to 9:05 that was there most of last night but is now gone, I'm a little disappointed.

Anonymous said...

I didn't see any comments removed. I think when something gets removed it says removed by administrator or something like that.

Try again, why don't you?

Anonymous said...

meh, i had copied and pasted part of a post from the august archive...esselman kicks off mayoral campaign...or whatever.
He said he would respond to "this" question in 24 hours, and he did. He had said nothing about answering "these" questions. granted people posted other questions and expected a response, but he never said he would be responding to any other posts. So, take all the shots at him you want, but drop the one about not responding to the question that he said he would, because that's exactly what he did. First post was a little more fluid, lol, sorry. Kind of lost the moment ya know.

The forum tomorrow is a joke. Why? Because the "Chamber of Commerce" gets to pick the questions.

All over this country, the "Chamber of Commerce" has shamelessly hijacked our conservative values. It jumped on our Tea Party wagon and then started using us for its own agenda. It’s vile and it must at least stay out of our town politics and the people’s business. Or we will be chanting “Down With the Chamber” next!

Anonymous said...

This is why we need to be able to interact with the candidates on our own terms. I do not agree with the tea party on a lot of issues however I would say we are taxed enough here in that we do not get value for our dollar and we see our tax dollars wasted on a regular basis. And $140 grand for Erskine Smith? Really?????? That's value? Is the chamber even going to bring that up? Didn't think so. I am so for tossing that bloated crate of tea overboard.

It sure is good to see there's at least one place people can come to and write out exactly what they think without fear of it being censored or cherry picked. I can't tell you how many comments of mine have just randomly not been published on various online news outlets, for whatever reasons. Here, regardless of which side of the fence people fall on, it looks like they get their voices heard. Thank you for that Ms. Gatton.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. At least we are free here to say exactly what we think of Smith, Redmond, etc, and know that perhaps they are reading it or someone who works for them is reading it and relaying it along. People are not happy here with the current state of things and while I am not going to bother with the pre-ordained propaganda laced crap fest tonight, I am going to make contact with the candidates on issues I hold important. I intend to vote and I hope more people turn out to vote than the pitiful 820.

Anonymous said...

My unbias opinion of tonights forum at the Charles Mack Center.

I went there without having made up my mine on any candidate and of course I can't vote for them all any way.

At Large race, Bobby Compton clearly the winner tonight. He was quick and percise and to the point. He did a great job. Skip Alexander, all he did was to brag on himself, about all the organizations he belonged to and that he used to deliver Cokes to the Whataburger. Alexander tried to squeeze in extra comments even after the bell rang and the host had to cut him off on several questions. My vote would go to Compton.

Ward one. To me a draw on the answers, of course Abraham had a advantage on some of the questions that were asked.Eddie Dingler appears to be a sincere young man that wants to do good and help the town and we all know what Abraham wants. My Opinion vote for Dingler.

Ward 2 this a no contest Mr. Houston clearly the winner. Had all the right answers and told the crowd there what they wanted to hear. Mr. Hendrix to me did not appear to be ready for this forum. One thing that he did say and to me it is a clear defeat for him that he said that we had a jewel in the golf couse and that it could be a great money maker and a benefit to the town. Vote goes to Houston.

Mayor like him or not Jared Esselman rocked Miles Atkins. Esselman gave all the right answers to the questions and Atkins seem unsure to me. Possibly that he was surprised at how good Esselman did on answering his questions. Vote Esselman in my opinion.

I realize that people will have their own opinions but I hope that everyone will watch this on the Tribunes web site and and the MI Cable.

I think that you will agree if you watch this with a open mine.

Does anyone know anything about Bobby's personal life? Wife, kids, etc.

Anonymous said...

9:59 been married twice, has a daughter by first wife, she is married to a MPD Officer.

Been married to current wife for well over 20 years, has a step daughter by this marriage and she is a RN. Current wife retired from town with over 30 years of service. Hope this helps

Anonymous said...

I agree with At-large and Mayor.
I thought Dingler was overmatched.
I liked Hendrix over Houston.

Anonymous said...

9:15 PM. Thanks Frank (Owens, ousted commissioner), but I think I'll wait and make up my own "mine" (I think you meant "mind"? just saying) when I watch the feed myself.

Anonymous said...

Thurman Houston may have answers but he is totally unresponsive to residents of ward 2. I am voting for Hendrix. He has been available and I'm willing to give him a chance. I agree with you on Bobby Compton. As for Esselman, he suddenly has the answers but he never was involved enough to vote and as someone previously pointed out about Mitch Abraham, he has no job and he wants us to provide one for him. No thank you. I'll go with the person I know who has been involved and who has cared enough to vote in the prior 12 years. It's going to take more than a set of canned questions to win over my vote. I intend to watch the forum with a barf bag close at hand. I will also have my bullsheet detector close as well.

Smooth performance at a forum doesn't change the fact that Essleman lied, "copied and pasted" and basically proposed a "coup d' etat" for the greater glory of Jared Esselman and he wasn't grown-up enough to keep his cool in a little face to face with Skip Alexander and you think he should run this town?

Oh, and it's "mind" not "mine." Elect that amateur and that's what we're going to have, a minefield. We need a mayor and a commission that is going to get rid of the payola and Erskine Smith. Time for the financial minefiled to be swept clean.

Anonymous said...

Here's my bottom line. I don't want a 26 year old single male for my mayor. The job's too big for it. Period.

Anonymous said...

He's 31 and still too wet behind the ears. I'm still shaking my head over some of his outlandish claims, like "flew 300 sorties.". He has no administrative experience, beyond copying and pasting a term paper. Key word may be copying. He isn't holding down a job. He moved into town to run. He never voted here. Oh yeah. Most of his campaign money came from his out of state pals. He's a true son of Mooeresville alright.

Anonymous said...

How many sorties would someone fly doing two tours in Iraq? Do you even know what the reasonable answer is or are you just making an assumption?

Anonymous said...

I think the real question is did he learn a lesson from that little assault by Skip Alexander? Will he keep his cool the next time? Trust me, there will be a next time, because Skip is still campaigning more against Esselman that for himself. He really seems to be obsessed with it.

10:11, that's not exactly true about Bobby's personal life!

Anonymous said...

I would like for Miles Atkins to post on this site all the jobs that he has had in the past 7 years. He has had a lot, even a job parking cars.
Also if he had ever filed for bankrupcty in NC or in Fla, how about it Miles. He did not live in the town until about 7 years ago he lived in the county and also lived in other towns in NC and look at where his money came from a lot from out of the state.
He stated that he lived here and paid taxes here and he is right. He gets his taxes 1/2 off of his property because he had his house placed on the historical site and his wifes salary is from taxes of your money, great way to live isn't it. So I guess he is a great supporter of paying taxes.

Sortie: the flying of an airplane on a combat mission.

I think he was in for 7 years. Lets say after training etc. he was in the combat zone 4 years. I have no idea what the turnaround on a 117 is, let's go with in and out in 4 days. That'd be ~90 a year, or 360 for 4 years. 5 day turn around? it's a pretty big plane afterall, 73 a year, or 292 for 4 years. That's about 300, let's go with that. I think that is well within the realm of possibility.
If this "sortie" issue is really you're major concern, I'm sorry.

I know Bobby Compton and a good bit about his personal life and his past. If you have a question I will answer it honestly and to the best of my ability.

A Townie said...

9:59, Bobby was born and raised in Mooresville. Started at the MFD after graduation. Married and had 2 daughters (who you will probably never hear him speak of, or his grandchildren). Left his wife for his current wife, Lois, who has a daughter. Retired from the MFD a few years ago, worked at Cavin-Cook until recently. In response to an earlier post, he did spend a few days at the "Iredell Co Bed & Breakfast", for if I remember correctly, he didn't want to help support his daughters. I hope this answers your question.

Anonymous said...

He was a loadmaster. He did not fly missions, he calculated loads for planes so he is kind of gilding the lily about his service. Two tours in Iraq do not add up to 7 years. Sorry. I don't want some guy who feels he needs to expand on his service to the country to make him look more qualified for mayor running my town. He is, as the headline says, liar, liar, pants on fire.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he's got special powers.

Anonymous said...

9:04, you are very accurate with your information! There is so much about Bobby that people don't know!

Anonymous said...

Bobby Compton left his first wife and children for the woman that lived across the street from them. Her name is Lois Compton now! He did go to jail because he did not want to pay child support. He has two daughters who he has no communication with and five gran-children that he has never held. If the people of Mooresville want a respectable, trusting person for this position then choose someone other than Bobby Compton. He does not seem to have the concerns of others in mind.

straight from the Air Force web pages

Mission

Loadmasters perform their duties during extensive trips to all areas of the world. They are responsible for supervising the loading and unloading of cargo, vehicles and people on a variety of aircraft. A loadmaster's duties include mathematically preplanning the correct placement of the load on the airplane, providing passenger comfort and safety, securing cargo and taking part in airdrop operations. Loadmasters are on flying status as an aircrew member and are required to fly as part of the job.

Qualifications

Those interested in becoming an aircraft loadmaster must meet certain eligibility criteria. Candidates must be a high school graduate or equivalent, earn a general score of at least 57 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test and able to lift 70 pounds or more. Candidates must also meet the qualifications for aviation service according to AFI 11-402, Aviation and Parachutist Service, Aeronautical Ratings and Badges.

Anonymous said...

So, did he fly? It would seem likely.

Anonymous said...

Mooresville deserves better than Bobby Compton.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure he was in the plane, as part of the flight crew. Flying in and out of combat zones to re-supply our men and women that give us the freedom to sit out our computers and anonymously say whatever we want about almost whoever we want.
Now that I think about it, they land and unload, than probably re-load a smaller payload to take out. By definition it probably counts as 2 flights, or 2 sorties. That cuts his "round trips" down to 150. So 2 tours of what? 18 months, I'll drop the time frame from 4 years to 3. One round trip a week for 3 years. I know civilians that fly more than that and this was his primary assignment that we were paying him to do 24/7/365. Admit that it's not that outlandish, lol.

Anonymous said...

With all this talk about Compton & Alexander. Canidate William Washburn should have been up on stage. He was at the forum last night. As i was talking to him during the forum he seemed to had a really good answers for those questions. I am going to write in his name on the ballot. So if you don't like or want to vote for the candidate for the At Large office write in Mr William Washburn on the ballet under that office.

Anonymous said...

Whatever you say, Jared. We all know you have issues with embellishing.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Bob has children AND grandchildren. After all these years, I never knew. You're right, he never speaks of them. And he went to jail and was able to keep his job at the fire dept? Interesting. This changes my opinion of him. Anyone else??

Anonymous said...

Yes, and Tommmy Adams had a criminal record before he was hired into the sheriff's dept. Serving a few days for failure to pay child support is hardly in the same league, don't you think? As "Go Redmond" is so fond of pointing out, everyone makes mistakes. Why there are sheriffs under indictment and investigation all around us.

As opposed to a 31 year old who seems to have held no gainful employment other than military service and copying things off of the internet--and not voting. At least Bobby did something for the town and didn't have his paws in the county evidence locker.

Whether you support Bobby Compton or not, these forays into his personal life by these anonymous posters is quite pathetic. Perhaps if you are going to make personal statements about a candidate's family life rather than addressing his stand on the issues, it would be appropriate to identify yourself. It is quite likely that when you dig into the personal life of any of us you will, sooner or later, run across something that would make someone in comfortable.

Anonymous said...

A candidates character is very important and there are probably some things in all our lives that could possibly make someone else uncomfortable but we are not running for office are we? When you run, you put yourself and your personal life out there! I agree with the others, if all this is true, how can he be trusted. How can he stand in good positions on issues about our town when he went to jail because he refused to pay child support? That doesn't make sense! Seems like he doesn't make very good decisions!

Anonymous said...

I would just suggest to everyone to remember that there are two sides to every story, and when there is a divorce involved, there are usually three sides...his side, her side, and the whole truth.

Anonymous said...

The truth can be revealed. Look up records. Some do not want to accept the truth and decide to turn a blind eye to it.Someone else who posted seemed to think that a criminal past is the new "black"! How sad that we can't have people with good character to vote for.Just because other people allow this doesn't make it right! I don't know Mr. Alexander but it sounds as if he has a reason to be a little "cocky" if he is. Retired FBI! Go Skip! Bobby did not do anything for Mooresville accept his job that he was paid to do. Mooreville did him a favor and let him do it.

As opposed to Erskine Smith, Mitch Abraham, Chris Montgomery, et al. who have been screwing the taxpayers.

I'm more concerned with Esselman's deriliction of duty to this town by not voting for 12 years. Now he wants to be mayor? Yeah, I'm all over that. He's earned the job all right.

Anonymous said...

Everyone has a past, some not so better than others, just as someone stated earlier, in a divorce there are three sides. There is not enough time in the day to write what the ex wife and the daughters did to him. No, he's not perfect and he would tell you that, however they are NOT angels! He did put in 30 years of service to this town and did a great job. He has a heart of gold. Take a chance and trust him. You won't be disappointed.

Ashley Compton said...

4:55, What WE did to him?!?! You obviously don't know what you are talking about! I have not written on here or anywhere else. I have not campaigned for him or against him and the only reason I am writting on here now is because of what the previous poster said. When you start saying negative things about my mother and my sister, I will most certainly state my peace! 4:55, please do tell of what we did to him, I would love to know what bad things two little girls could possibly do to their dad and as for my mom, please tell us what it was she did. To the anonymous posters who talked about what happened to my family, I don't know who you are or how you know what you know but for the most part you are correct. I don't care who votes for him and who doesn't but if someone is so interested in what happened you can ask us but please don't speculate. I can't speak about his "heart of gold" because I don't know and haven't known for years. And 4:55, we are NOT angels, huh? Are you? Who are you? Do you even know us personally? You act as if my mother, my sister and I have been campaigning against him! We haven't, we don't care! It just angers me that you would put us in this in a negative way! My sister was 8 and I was 5 when he left. We are grown and have children of our own, again what did we do to him that was so bad that there isn't enough time in the day to write about it? When people hear what my last name is they often ask if I'm related to Bobby Compton and I'm honest and say, "He's my father." And when they look shocked and tell me they didn't know he had kids I just say, "Well he does." 4:55, you should be ashamed of yourself for telling lies on my mother, my sister and me. You have obviously been fed false information! Please remember this was my life and I had to live it. Please keep us out of this and if you are going to speak negatively of us, PLEASE don't say anything because what you said is not true! Anyone who knows the truth would not say what you did! People may be saying negative things about him and what he did to us but the truth about your past tends to come out in politics. I'm not in politics and neither is my mother or sister so again, please keep us out of it and quit making false statements and stop acting as if we are the bad guys and we did something wrong to him. If you would like to tell us what you think we did, I'm all ears. I promise you I will let you know if its true or not. You should find out for a fact if what you are saying about others is accurate before you make a public statement about them.

Just a reminder, folks:

Public officials are fair game for criticism. Private citizens are absolutely not.

Additionally, the private matters of a candidate should remain private unless those matters are being carried out on public equipment on public time.

Anonymous said...

I agree about the private citizens part but I don't think the private matters of a candidate should ALWAYS remain private because it tends to show their true colors and it represents the content of their character. I would like to know the character of my towns candidates, that is who they truly are and who they end up being when they take office. I don't want a situation where I would have to say, "if only I had known that it would've changed the way I voted." We deserve to know who these people really are and their character, which is personal and private, is who they really are. But again private citizens should be kept out of it!

It's a sad day when voters are going to believe what they are reading here to determine who they vote for instead of going to the candidate and questioning them directly. Grow up people and seek the truth for yourself from the candidate and don't believe what you read in these comments. If you can't do that then you don't need to be voting! Jaime, there is a lot more deleting to be done....

Anonymous said...

Mr. Gatton I think you are doing a good job in monitoring the comments here. People have the right to voice their opinions and the facts, others can take it for what it's worth to them. Take the info, ask the candidate and decide. I wonder who is in such favor of Bobby. Not his kids, grandkids, surely not his wife after the things she knows about. Bobby is that you?

Anonymous said...

No, 1:17 is not Bobby, it's someone that has sought out the truth and is encouraging others to do so as well.

Anonymous said...

So, you sought out the truth?? Who did you seek it from? Bobby? And if so, how do you know he told you thr truth? How do you know he didn't lie to you? And people are not reading things on here and letting that decide their vote, most are finding and others will find out the truth for themselves because your lies will always tell on you! The truth always comes out! I just found out he had kids and grandkids! See how easy the truth works!!!

Anonymous said...

Yes, that's exactly what was done. No one has denied those people exist and he won't either. All sides need to be understood before you can fairly assess someone's character and make a choice. Reading these comments to find out the information is not what an educated voter should do. I'm not for either side, I'm just saying how rediculous it is that voters are taking these comments as the truth and how immature it is to post the varios material no matter which candidate it is.

Anonymous said...

Bobby is a liar! If you sought the truth from him, you are a lost soul!
